In respect to the "Clutch" player thing: The calculations were based on the last 12 minutes of a game, but many examples come to mind, that really don't impact the game that much in the 4th quarter overall, but for instance in the last 2-3 minutes they make one or two super crucial plays or make the game winning shot or score in rue of taking the lead and the momentum. Basing it on 12 minutes tells the average and not really the whole story, I think. Also, I believe there is a thing like certain players being more prone to get hot in crucial moments. If you look at the averages over one or more seasons, that phenomenon might be statistically invisible, if a player has one of those games now and then, but also has a number of games in which he performs subpar in important minutes or even the whole game.

Great content - and I agree some players get a clutch reputation that is unwarranted but some players definitely choke or perform better under pressure then others.

Also, I always thought the concept of a super team arrived when superstar players started seeking out teams with other superstars; in order to increase their chances of winning championships. If a team's management acquires multiple superstar players by offering them good contracts, they might have a stacked team; but that's just business as usual. So my assumption was always that the formation of super teams was player driven. But maybe that sort of thing was happening in the 60s, 70s and 80s too, but wasn't as well known....

Look Magazine visited Wilt Chamberlain while he was a student at Kansas university. They measured his standing reach at 9 feet 6, and his height after jumping at 13 feet 3 inches. That's a confirmed 45 inch vertical leap. You can find copies of this article online. In the demonstration where they show Wilt Chamberlain jumping at a track meet in Brussels, and also blocking a shot as a player in Kansas, I would dispute that the person who did the measurements is drawing the spot where Chamberlain jumped from accurately. In the Kansas photo, Chamberlain did not take off at the point on the floor as indicated in the chart. He took off at a point just below and to the left of the spot indicated on the chart which would substantially increase the measurement of his vertical leap and place it into the 40s, similar to the Look Magazine article. In addition, the Brussels photo clearly shows Chamberlain jumping more than half of his own 85 inch height. Again, that would place chamberlains vertical leap in the mid-40s. Maybe not a 48-inch vertical leap, but there is documentation that he had a vertical leap somewhere in the low to mid 40s, not below 30s as indicated in this video. It's also worth noting that less than 1% of the games that Wilt Chamberlain played are captured on video. The ones that were captured are mostly later in his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, when he was 60 lb heavier, so obviously that would have impacted his vertical leap substantially in a negative way. No one is claiming that Chamberlain had a vertical leap higher than 40 in during his Lakers days. Those claims are made regarding his time as a college student at Kansas when he was also high jumping nearly six foot seven going over the bar feet first.

yes there is such thing as being clutch, most people get nervous under pressure and tend to like shake up their shot but clutch shooters shoot as normal or maybe even better bc they strive under pressure and get a good grip on the ball and stuff like that.

By expanding the timeframe for the definition of clutch to the LAST 12 MINUTES, instead of, say, the last 5 or even 3 minutes, you've convoluted what the term means, and it shows in your presentation of players, esp in the compare and contrast. I took stats in college too, it's fun. It's easy to manipulate data to swing one way or another--adjust parameters :p

I view clutch as the last few minutes of a game. That’s when it’s at it’s most intense. Less room for error. You can overcome mistakes with a quarter of play to work with. You don’t get that luxury with 2 minutes remaining.
