Wilt's 48 inch vert always sounded insane to me, but a 40 inch vert is still pretty damn insane for a 7'1 player and he was a true 7'1 (measured without shoes). I was always impressed by how easily Wilt launched himself into the air. A lot of big men really have to exert themselves to get airborne, but Wilt did it so effortlessly.

@@timrettig8457 i dont get why people consider that bulls a superteam. I'm a Rodman fan. He's one of my favorite players ever. I have a collection of his jerseys. He is a hall of famer. But he was not exactly a guy known to change a franchise. He had just com from Spurs where he did not have such an impact and he wasn't exactly sought after. In fact he was traded for Will Perdue. Not exactly an NBA shaking move. And the numbers support that. He was more hustle than technique. Thats why I loved him playing, but that hardly makes a super team. The Warriors also bother me. Their big 3 were drafted and had a 73 win season before adding Durant. That not a super team in the meaning I get for that expression. That is a very well managed drafting. Not hired for millions in order to stack with talent. Anyway, all this is subjective, I suppose.

My take: being clutch means NOT having a worse percentage, when shots start to matter. Clutch performers aren't getting better - they just stay as good as they are. Others don't. Funny enough, there is a stat that claims that Lebron only hit 20% (!) of shots with 5 seconds or less on the clock, to tie or win a game, during his career... he’s great and ice cold, up until this very last possession... and if you've watched him over the last seasons, you know that he almost never takes the last-possession-shots, anymore...

In respect to the "Clutch" player thing: The calculations were based on the last 12 minutes of a game, but many examples come to mind, that really don't impact the game that much in the 4th quarter overall, but for instance in the last 2-3 minutes they make one or two super crucial plays or make the game winning shot or score in rue of taking the lead and the momentum. Basing it on 12 minutes tells the average and not really the whole story, I think. Also, I believe there is a thing like certain players being more prone to get hot in crucial moments. If you look at the averages over one or more seasons, that phenomenon might be statistically invisible, if a player has one of those games now and then, but also has a number of games in which he performs subpar in important minutes or even the whole game.
@rasmusbang6118

yeah the clutch part he kinda butchered. The last couple of possessions are where you can see the best player being forced into a bad shot, on a defense that uses everything to stop you. This is also where people really get to play with nerves, that can seriously affect your ability.

@DJKHOTTA 7 ай бұрын
The last 12 minutes is too much time, that's a whole quarter if the score is less than 6 points apart, what if the team was losing by 8 points and get back at the end? Weren't those first 2 or 3 points made in clutch time too? We know that it's arbitrary, but 12 minutes is too much.

@@smoceany9478 Well that is a big factor, you cant compare otherwise, it is biologically impossible, what I was trying to do is put this myth into a perspective, 2 inches more than highest one doesnt sound that much, especially since it is Wilt and since he was special it is plausible for some, who dont take into consideraiton how height influences jumping negatively after a certain limit. Hell 8 inches more than highest center sounds plaussible as well for some, because you dont have perspective and reference of how big of a difference that is, 8 inches can be relatively big or small number. But when oyu say almost a quarter more than the next most capable person in that regard, we aint comparing him to average person in that category, but the next best jumping center, that is how you put it in perspective and make it obvious how it is impossible that it was truth. because 8 inches doesnt tell you much, what if the next best guy had 100 inch vertical, then 8 inches would be 8% and while still impressive margin, it would be possible. But almost a 25% difference in any category would have to mean he had some genetic or in other way biological anomaly, its not possible for a normal natural human beign to have that advantage over the next best one Edit: this was my original train of thought, but since it is a youtube comment seciton I wanted to make it concise as possible so I wrote it the original way I did

Think about how they were placing him at around a 40 inch vert by just watching him play sports, he is not even jumping as high as he can, he has to also focus on playing the game, we have no idea how tired he already is(he plays every minute), whether or not if he is sore, and he is not just solely doing a jump at full capacity. We don't have enough information to even prove that he doesn't really have a 48 inch vert. And just based off of him getting a 40 while just looking at a random jump from his games I wouldn't doubt he at least has a 45 inch vert. And maybe he really did have a 48 inch vert at some point, we didn't even get to really see his prime.

AceMcKnight you realize how big the difference between a 40 and a 45 inch vert is mans chest would be at the rim and that random clip is the one everyone shows because that’s the highest he’s been filmed jumping and your argument that he never jumped as high as he could is stupid how would you never once in your career jump your hardest to block a show or something like that claim is actually so pee brained for you to even think

@@winstonshepard7410 Pee brain Lmao, I can also tell you clearly have no idea how to jump correctly, you don't even know the difference between a random jump mid game (tons of factors) and a actual measured jump with nothing else in the picture, you can have perfect form, no fatigue, no soreness, nothing to think about but that single jump, and with them in their prime, there is a huge difference.

Funny how despite being a legend, Wilt is still somehow underrated. Give the man at least a 40.75 inch vertical, so Wilt can be #1 on the list of 7 footers jumping ability. He was also a world class volleyball player. P.S. My grandfather held the Canadian high jump record for a few years, using the same "Western Roll" style we saw Wit successfully employing. Crazy they had to land on sawdust! My grandfather paid the price in later years for all those hard, punishing falls. P.S.S. Great job on the video. Peace out.

@@taskmaster6129 actually, no he's not. He says Jordan may be the most clutch player in that regard. I disagree with him. Jordan is overrated. No one ever points out Jordan's flaws such as when he used to be a selfish player before Phil Jackson came along or how Pip6made clutch plays to keep them in the game resulting in Jordan being able to take the final shot and clench the win. There's times when the Bulls bench stepped up while Jordan struggled. But when it comes to everyone else they got excuses for why they're not clutch. "Ray Allen and Kyrie irving saved Lebron's career." "Kobe took too many shots and they don't count the misses." "Jerry West only has 1 out of 9 champions." As far as I'm concerned, Reggie Miller is more clutch than Jordan. He doesn't have as much skill and versatility as most shooting guards but his clutch gene compensates for all that an is a primary reason that he was a superstar as opposed to an All Star. And that's just one example of many.

Also, I always thought the concept of a super team arrived when superstar players started seeking out teams with other superstars; in order to increase their chances of winning championships. If a team's management acquires multiple superstar players by offering them good contracts, they might have a stacked team; but that's just business as usual. So my assumption was always that the formation of super teams was player driven. But maybe that sort of thing was happening in the 60s, 70s and 80s too, but wasn't as well known....

I like your vids a lot! Great job. But I have to intervene here...These teams of the past that you consider "super teams" didn't in fact come "together" as an arrangement to form a team. Moreover in the case of the bulls, there were no super team, scottie was a ROOKIE! How can his evolution into a star years later count as a "super team"? Rodman wasn't a star, he was traded from places to places. He became that hall of famer once he won three championships by adhering to the bulls mindset and being that dominant force. Same thing for the lakers, kobe and shaq evolved together, so did the spurs with Duncan Parker and Ginobli

@@princesally743 You are putting the charts b4 the horses. No, a super team isn't made of Stars. It is made of SUPER Stars. Wade, Bosch, Lebron....they were already bonified super stars with their respective teams prior to joining with Miami Heat. On the other hand, when Pippen joined the bulls in 1988, he wasn't yet a star, lez alone a Superstar. Same with Kobe in 1997 not a superstar. Same thing with Tony Parker and Ginobli with them Spurs. We now know that these guys are Super stars after having won multiple Chips, but at the beginning no one knew these guys mentioned above would definitely be Hall of fame. But with Wade, he won be4 LeBron. Bosch was the ultimate leader in Toronto with first team all nba and all star selections. And Bron was Superstar as soon as he stepped on the court. So all three were Alpha male and yet Only won 2 chips. Yall need to stop waiting aftet careers are over to call teams Superteams. If you can predict it then call it when it happens....not after the fact. We saw KD, Harden, Westbrook with no chips. Kyrie, Kd and Harden with no chips. Yet they were already all stars players!

Look Magazine visited Wilt Chamberlain while he was a student at Kansas university. They measured his standing reach at 9 feet 6, and his height after jumping at 13 feet 3 inches. That's a confirmed 45 inch vertical leap. You can find copies of this article online. In the demonstration where they show Wilt Chamberlain jumping at a track meet in Brussels, and also blocking a shot as a player in Kansas, I would dispute that the person who did the measurements is drawing the spot where Chamberlain jumped from accurately. In the Kansas photo, Chamberlain did not take off at the point on the floor as indicated in the chart. He took off at a point just below and to the left of the spot indicated on the chart which would substantially increase the measurement of his vertical leap and place it into the 40s, similar to the Look Magazine article. In addition, the Brussels photo clearly shows Chamberlain jumping more than half of his own 85 inch height. Again, that would place chamberlains vertical leap in the mid-40s. Maybe not a 48-inch vertical leap, but there is documentation that he had a vertical leap somewhere in the low to mid 40s, not below 30s as indicated in this video. It's also worth noting that less than 1% of the games that Wilt Chamberlain played are captured on video. The ones that were captured are mostly later in his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, when he was 60 lb heavier, so obviously that would have impacted his vertical leap substantially in a negative way. No one is claiming that Chamberlain had a vertical leap higher than 40 in during his Lakers days. Those claims are made regarding his time as a college student at Kansas when he was also high jumping nearly six foot seven going over the bar feet first.
