Here’s one. Tomorrow Never Dies is the last great ‘Bond’ film in terms of being a standard mission for Bond with no formula stretching. Every movie since then is either a dud on some level (WINE, DAD, QoS, Spectre) or may be a superior film (CR, Skyfall, NTTD) but stretches or twists the Bond formula to the limit. In other words, it was the last one that was both good and felt like a classic Bond adventure. For instance, Bond didn’t go ‘rogue’ or M wasn’t in trouble, no huge drama for Bond, etc.

I feel I have a more unpopular opinion: I think Goldfinger is overrated, it's not a bad movie, it just isn't as great as people make it to be. Please allow me to elaborate: First, I don't like Bond in that movie, he's way too incompetent. He is ordered to quietly spy on Goldfinger, but instead he decides to expose himself and sleep with his girl, which would be funny if it didn't get Jill killed, a beautiful gold-painted victim of Bond's ego. Then he tries to go "undercover" when obviously they know who he is (they just forgave his life in Miami) all just to win an useless golf game. He teams up with Tilly, who is a totally wasted character btw, she's very interesting but sadly the movie wouldn't be different if she wasn't in it; anyway she was in cover behind the DB5, and Bond I don't know why tells her to run and that gets her killed. He then gets captured and remains a prisoner until the end (not to mention he is unable to escape while driving a super car), every attempt he makes to escape or communicate with the outside world fails and his best idea is to try to rapely seduce Pussy into changing sides... This somehow works. In the third act he's okay, but only because he just has to punch his way out of the movie and collect his undeserving victory. I get people like him because he's more charismatic, funny and relaxed that in the previous movies, but I prefer him in those, because he was a way better agent. Second, I think Pussy galore is a bad character. I feel people like her, just because Honor Blackman is beautiful and charismatic, but her character I don't get. She's presented as a villain, and is an accomplice on Goldfinger's plan. I'm unsure how much she knows, the gas being lethal and the plans to nuke Fort Knox, being two major points that would make her a despicable human being if she is willing to go with it. Perhaps she doesn't know the full plan and that's how Bond convince her to help, but since this isn't in the movie, her turning to the light side doesn't make sense at all; I'm not asking for a huge character journey but this is the major twist of the movie that saves the day, and I don't know why it happens. I know this movie's success made James Bond what he's today, and sure, historically speaking it's iconic and influential, mostly because people hadn't seen anything like it at the time. I acknowledge the movie has good in it; Goldfinger and Oddjob are fun, entertaining antagonists, the villain plan is elegant and classic, the DB5 and the gadgets are cool (I don't like however that they are useless to the mission); but Bond's incompetence, Pussy turning good just because, Tilly's wasted potential, are in my opinion heavy flaws that keeps this movie from being great, I wouldn't call it bad either just because it's not boring to watch, but as a movie it's just okay.

Couldn't have put it better. I've never been too fond of the Guy Hamilton films due to their more sloppy and campy style. Goldfinger was popular due to how fresh it felt at the time but it definitely hasn't aged the best in terms of execution. As you put it, Connery is great but his character is all over the place. Compared to the previous film FRWL, it feels like a step back and I'm glad they went back to Young with Thunderball and stopped hiring Hamilton after TMWTGG.
@DiegoLopez-ft5wd
@DiegoLopez-ft5wd 2 жыл бұрын
@bloodymuzzle yes, I have made some research about the book and it seems Tilly was wasted as much in the book as in the movie. For what she does in the movie they shouldn't have even include her. It's a bit frustrating because I see the seeds of a great character in this brave yet inexperienced, sloppy woman trying her best to avange her sister, just to be an unnecessary second sacrificial lamb. Its a shame because I find the concept of Tilly more interesting than Pussy; and it just occurred to me something I believe would improve the movie without changing it so much: They should have combined the characters of Tilly and Pussy; imagine if you meet this pilot woman, a brave, misterious, leader of her own squad who is working for the bad guy; she's acting a little resentful to Bond yet he doesn't know why she seems like a good person within, so he trusts his instincts and spends the time he's captured winning her over. She is a smart woman yet inexperienced as a double agent and makes some mistakes which makes Bond figure out her identity as Jill's sister and that she's actually secretly working to sabotage Goldfinger's plan and avenge her sister, even though she doesn't fully know how she will accomplish her goal. At the beginning she doesn't like Bond, yet comes to realize he's a good man that regrets that he inadvertently caused her sister death, and they start planning and working together (not rape scene though). Bond being the experienced agent comes out with the strategy they use and it's only on their combined effort that they manage to defeat Goldfinger and Oddjob, she can even assist or cause one of the kills, so Jill can have some justice. I feel these small alterations, would fix the more significant problems I see with the film. Jill's death although tragic will be significant as it would cause Goldfinger's downfall, fixes Pussys motivation and takes full advantage of the avenging sister angle, and even will make sense that Bond saves the day by romancing this apparent rival which his experience tells him is trustworthy. He even would have a character moment, by showing some regret about Jill, not super emotional or anything, just a tiny bit of humanity, which will have major consequences as it gets them working together and save the day.

Spectre would be a very good movie if it were: 1) 20% shorter (more concise) 2) revised plot for the last 30% of the movie (removing totally the aim to bind all craig movies together) 3) change the Morocco "villain's lair" to a better location such as old cold war era bunker somewhere in Europe. The train sequence would be much better if filmed again on some European rail connection

I wouldn't really call these unpopular outside of the first and second entires. I know a multitude of people who adore Serra's music to GoldenEye, myself included. The industrial sound just works so well for Bond, one of the examples would be to also compare it directly to his work on Leon The Professional which is essentially identical in sound but minus the cheesier aspects of scenes like the car chase to Monaco. It's far from a bad soundtrack at all.

Let's come up with ten unpopular opinions (note, not necessarily my own): 1 Barry Nelson was the best Bond. 2 David Niven was the best film Bond 3 Casino Royale is canon because it is based on a Fleming book, unlike most Eon productions. 4 Only work based directly on Fleming is canon. 5 A View to a Kill is one of Moore's best films. 6 Kingsley Amis' Colonel Sun is canon and should be adapted. 7 Daniel Craig films should be more camp. 8 Sam Neill would have made a better Bond than some of official ones. 9 James Bond is Scottish, and should be played with a Scottish accents. 10 James Bond should be shown doing drugs occasionally like Sherlock Holmes

I too have always been onboard with Spectre. It was my first Bond Film in the theater but to see that they had gone back to a touch of lightheartedness always meant something special to me following all the dark and gritty elements of the first three Craig movies. Not as fun as Tomorrow Never Dies but it was like Craig's take on a Classic Bond Movie. I still don't think Cary's cinematography could be Sam's either. Spectre is still very visually pleasing.

If Connery had stayed in shape and not grown to hate the role of 007, OHMSS would have been a perfect swansong for his tenure as Bond LALD and TMWTGG are both equally bad, as far as I'm concerned 😋 I agree totally about that Talisa Soto line. It was always obvious to me that it was her character Lupe who was the bad actor, pretending to love Bond, not Talisa herself. Again, I agree about Spectre. It's better than the miserable Skyfail, which is hugely overrated (in my opinion) The Goldeneye score has grown on me. As a Bond score I still think it's poor, but it does capture the sound of a 90s post cold-war thriller. Maybe that's just 1990s nostalgia on my part...

I have three: 1. I actually enjoyed Quantum of Solace more than Casino Royale. I have to rewatch both to figure out why. Something about the prolonged torture and things like that, and I also like the bond girl in QS. I wonder if it felt a bit more like a classic Bond movie, even if CR is more closely based on the book. 2. Octopussy is underrated. I love this one, even if it has a couple of bad jokes. Love the trains, knife fighting, the opening is epic (both the plane and the murder of the clown agent). 3. Even if I love Sean Connery, Diamonds Are Forever is possibly the worst Bond movie ever. Maybe.
@bjgandalf69

Quantum of Solace had the kernel of a good film but in execution due to the hatchet editing and the incomplete script (of course, due to the writer's strike), it IMHO doesn't quite work and is pretty much unwatchable as a whole but I agree there are good elements in it. Maybe someone just needs to reedit the film somehow with Casino Royale to make it work.

I agree with #2, Octopussy doesn't get nearly the love it deserves. Roger Moore is great in it, the action sequences are entertaining, Maud Adams is one of the best Bond girls ever and she's age appropriate, Vijay is a very likable Bond ally, and the theme song is terrific. My favorite part of the movie has to be the train sequence in the third act. It's biggest problems are the insanely convoluted plot and the villains; Kamal Khan just isn't a very good one, and General Orlov is so over the top that it's comical.

Unpopular opinions: - Quantum of Solace is a great cinematographic achievement (I love its style, its narration, its photography, its character treatment), and it works either as a great stand-alone AND as a great second chapter for the Quantum organisation continuous narrative (which the two Sam Mendès films butchered) - The Spy Who Loved Me would be such a great film if it was only 30 minutes-long movie. We can save the Egypt sequence and forget all the rest (ok, I'll only miss the underwater car chase). After the Egypt sequence, there is no more story line, it's a boring 90 minutes-long final action scene. And also, Agent Triple-X is written like any generic damsel-in-distress character, despite being introduced as a virtuose agent. Seriously, why do every other character seems to take for granted that she kicks ass????? (ok, I admit that it was the very first attempt in the series to have a female agent that would be equal to Bond, but it's a failed attempt) - I'm not a fan of Sam Mendès classical approach to the franchise. Despite great visual and directing qualities, those two films choose to do a back-to-the-bond-clichés. Reintroducing the old Aston Martin cars is fine, but it's such a shame to have reintroduced the over-the-top elements and the tongue-in-cheek tone of the film series, that Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace had been working hard to deconstruct. - Octopussy is my second best Roger Moore film (I love John Glen serious take on the plots of each of his films, it feels more like real spy movies with action in it, than action movies) and I even have absolutely no issue with the clown disguise sequence (just because he is disguised as a clown doesn't make the scene clownesque. He's masquerading only to get to the bomb, that's what a secret agent could do to get the job done. Not every Bond sequence has to be stylish and bad-ass. It's a smart and brave move required by the urgency of the situation.) - I love Eric Serra's score for Goldeneye, INCLUDING THE CAR CHASE SEQUENCE.

I think Eric Serras soundtrack was important to differentiate Brosnans Bond from the other´s before him. Remeber, in the 90ties bond had such a bad reputation, that ace of base didn´t want to do a song for golden eye, in fear of their reputation. So to start from a new chapter, a lot had to be changed. The new graphics in the titlecard, finally a decent budget, unlike most of the 80ties movies, a new and fresh bond that emulated some of conneries qualaties, and a different score were needed, so the audience could forget some of the lackluster 80ties entries, like a view to a kill. Also it fits, because bond in the 90ties was very high tech and gadget oriented, so a more industrial score fits, as does a more classic score for casino royale, because that is the addaption of a classic bond story, like it would have been adapted in the 60ties, except with the technology of today and obivously set in todays time.

A View To A Kill rocked! As did the 1990's Bond movies. The changes happened in 'Goldeneye' because Barbara Broccoli and Michael G.Wilson were the new producers and not because of any perceived shortcomings in the earlier films. The 80's Bond had decent budgets.

I myself think that "The Man with the Golden Gun" is a very unfairly rated movie. I too feel it's one of the best in the series. I think Scaramanga's Island lair is probably the coolest lair ever. I just love it! The movie works for me on many levels. Personally, my favourite Bond movie will always be "The Spy Who Loved Me". There are numerous reasons for that, but one of the more 'unpopular' reasons for my liking the film so much is the main villain. The late Curt Jurgens as the evil Shipping Magnate Karl Stromberg was (to me) very convincing as a villain. The part where Bond looks into those impressive fish tanks and sees the remains of a woman's hand lying at the bottom of the tank was really upsetting when I first saw the movie as a child. I thought that really emphasised just how evil this man really is. His cold eyes and strange accent really added to that idea. Stromberg's underwater lair was also super cool - especially with those helicopters under the plexiglass domes. As a child, I was captivated by the idea of those helicopters still being intact under the sea, waiting to be found...

I dislike the music for the tank chase and the highway race as well, but I do like other music choices such as the escape in Russia (I jogged to that music, and yes...I've imagined myself in that situation...lol) and the end theme 'The Experience of Love' which turned up in _Leon: The Professional._ I think that song was originally for _Leon._

I'm definitely going to remember that every time I watch the movie from now on. My most unpopular opinion on the Bond franchise- Timothy Dalton is better than Roger Moore. Great video! Totally agree re OHMSS: I blame Christopher Nolan for everyone these days seeming to think it's the best one. I dislike that awful dubbing, the terrible editing of the fight scenes, and I don't think the story's anything special either. Diana Rigg's a great actress, sure, but that's not enough to make it good (I don't even think she's all that amazing in this movie...). My unpopular opinion: As great as the movie is, Casino Royale destroyed the series forever by being a reboot, disregarded and threw away over four decades of history (despite the Craig era constantly referring "back" to it). There's loads to love about the Craig era films, but rebooting and then killing the character totally undermined - and under-valued - what for me was the whole appeal of the series in the first place. Agree on Spectre too - more than enough to admire in it (...and I feel the same about Die Another Day too), one or two poor choices aren't enough to derail the movie for me. Cheers.

I always used to consider it the absolute worst Bond movie of them all. I hated the editing, the casting of Lazenby, the directorial style and the story, and vehemently argued against the praise it got from a growing number of fans online. But when I was about 23 and watched it again something just clicked and I completely changed my opinion. I don't know why but I suddenly agreed with what people seemed to love about it, and I would now consider it in the top 3. That being said I have a lot of sympathy for people who dislike it, being that I felt the same thing for a long time.

Yeah, I've never understood the love for OHMSS, and I used to really like the Craig era but been having major second thoughts since Spectre. It was fine up to Skyfall when they were establishing a more connected world but every film still worked individually, but once they started with all the interconnected shit and the retconning it really started to get on my nerves. And killing Bond was just pure vanity on Craig's part (he mentioned that's what he wanted to do right from the start), thinking only about his legacy rather than the character's. I still like Casino Royale and Skyfall, but the last few have really soured them for me.
@jamesatkinsonja

@@oliverholmes-gunning5372 Quantum doesn't work that well individually. It's very much 'Part 2' rather than a stand alone film, especially with Bond's character arc dealing with his grief over Vesper. Some of the retconning in Spectre was unnecessary [like Silva working for Spectre] but if you watch it as a 5 part series I can buy Spectre evolving from Quantum in the intervening years. Don't want to go down a rabbit hole with Bond's death but I really don't see why it harms Bond's legacy or anything. Craig's movies were it's own series and Bond 26 would likely be a reboot anyway [Which I was expecting even before NTTD came out given Nolan's Batman Series has nothing to do with the subsequent films] so if you were ever going to kill Bond, this was the time to do it [and it means you don't have to deal with his partner and child going forward and Felix+Blofeld also died in this continuity but can be used going forward if desired].

TMWTGG seems disjointed to me, showing the rushed nature of its production with it coming out not even 2 years after LALD with the Eon trying to strike while the iron was hot. It has good moments especially when Moore and Lee interact but also has tone deaf moments like the treatment of Maude Adam's character by Moore's Bond which is something more like what Connery might have done. I do want to like the movie more and this is with me saying LALD has some issues with its tonality as well.

TMWTGG has aged well with me but I still prefer LALD. 3. Never thought about it. I'll go with your take it. 4. Spectre is indeed fine. I find the first 90 minutes really solid bond before the wheels start to come off. 5. Some of the soundbites are great but overall, it's my least favourite out of all of them especially if you watch a fan made edit with some of Barry's music. My unpopular opinions: 1. I really like QOS. There's a lot to love about it but I am fully aware of its shortcomings. 2. Goldfinger is overrated. 3. A View to a Kill is a great time. 4. I can't stand A-Ha's bond song. It's like nails on a chalk board for me. 5. Craig's bond is too damage proof. I love his first aid part in CR after the stairwell fight, it showed he was human & vulnerable. By NTTD, he can take bullets to the body, grenades to the face, bombs to the face and carry on, I really dislike the ending to NTTD because of that.

Number 1 - I disagree. I love the movie and I think recasting Bond was the correct move as Connery looked bored. I feel the complete opposite as you about Connery playing Bond here... Good thing he didn't. And I always thought that you don't like it for reasons that are very valid and that do make a lot of sense. Number 2 - I disagree. But it's close. The 2 movies are just 2 or 3 spots apart in my full ranking. TMWTGG feels much more like a classic Bond film because it has quite memorable stuff. Strangely, I only prefer LALD because of the soundtrack, which I find absolutely fantastic and the best soundtrack in the series. Number 3 - I disagree. Talisa Soto takes me out of the movie constantly. I find her lack of acting compared to everyone else painfully obvious. Although I don't look at this within the actual story. Because within the movie and the story itself, her saying that does make sense. All I personally see is an "actress" breaking character. And not much more. Number 4 - I agree. Spectre gets quite unfairly hated. I quite enjoy it. Mr Hinx is awesome, the cinematography and the locationwork is beautiful. It brings back the old elements that the series started with. And in many parts, it feels like an old classic. Number 5 - I agree. I can't really say anything else. I share the same thoughts as you.

I absolutely agree with OHMSS. I think becuz it was so hated in the beginning, perhaps when it became a cult classic it became a bit overhyped to compensate. Problem is George Lazenby is very obviously not a professional actor. And the film does very little to justify how many ppl see Tracy-Bond as the best pairing. I love Tracy, the actress is great, but Bond in the film shows very little care for her until she saves him and thats supposedly after they already had their honeymoon period. They don’t have much chemistry and its hard to see why he would marry her. There’s just a lot of problems for me with the film. The editing one of the biggest, the car/ice-rink scene is atrocious they re-use the same video and audio clips multiple times and it looks very amateurish. Its not bad but its just not that great for me.

OHMSS does a wonderful job of showing Bond's love for Tracy. All lot of it is done during the montage they show set to Louis Armstrong's "We have all the time in the World" but it is there. He shows great love for her before she ever rescues him. Part of the reason he retires for her is because he loves her and never wants to have to give his body for the secret service. As for the Car/Ice rink scene, I have always enjoyed it and all the other great Stunts in the film. Next time I watch though I will carefully watch the scene again.

My 5 controversial opinions: I DON'T LIKE LICENCE TO KILL: I have no fun with this film. The fact that it's so serious makes it way less entertaining for me. And my Bond films should be fun. I have no words for the bar fight scene. This stuff just absolutely doesn't belong into a 007 film. I'm not sensitive to physical violence in movies but I think "What's the point of shooting gross scenes if you're gonna sensor them in the first version anyway?" Casting Talisa Soto also makes me complain. The woman can't act and distracts me all the time. I find the title song nice but unnessecarily long and so repetitive and dragging in its lyrics. It could be at least 2 minutes shorter. This is actually in my 5 worst Bond films. No joke. I DON'T LIKE SKYFALL: I find Skyfall by far the most tremendously overrated film in the series. The whole idea of throwing Bond off the train bridge in the opening and then being old, retired and living on pills? I j can't get my head around that... There is also no main Bond girl. Severine is rather a secondary character. Although, from the Macao scenes onwards, I find the second part of this film very, very solid. And the final battle is actually even my favourite climax in the series. I DONT LIKE FGOLDFINGER: When someone says "Bond", this instantly jumps in as an absolute classic. No denying that this movie is timelessly iconic. But after the Switzerland parts, the Kentucky ranch scenes can near well put me to sleep. I find it so boring there. Bond is almost only locked in a cell... I also truly hate Pussy Galore. Nothing against Honor Blackman! But I find the character so annoying. And boring. And uninteresting... If I was Bond, I would want nothing whatsoever to do with this chick. I DON'T LIKE FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE: I find this movie pretty boring. And it feels in many parts like a North By Northwest 2.0. The story is also quite hard to follow... The train sequences are really the only scenes I truly enjoy. OCTOPUSSY: It can put me to metaphorical tears to see Octopussy near the bottom in nearly every ranking I look at. My opinion couldn't be more different; This actually fights my number 1 top spot with GoldenEye. I could make a long list on how it fullfills to the last detail everything I ask for in a great action and/or Bond movie... But here are a few: The twins, Gobinda and the yo-yo saw killers have to be among the most deadly henchmen Bond ever had to face. Throughout the movie, I am left startled with breathtaking stuntwork in the opening, on the train and on the plane at the end. We get a strong, smart and capable Bond girl. And the whole film is just so much fun and entertainment.

I wish that Spectre would have been a stand alone film, like Skyfall, but had Stana Katic reprise her tiny cameo in Quantum in a significant role alongside Craig - she'd be so great; she's an excellent actress and speaks five languages fluently. My own popular opinion: Daniel Craig's Bond era was not great (apart from Casino Royale). I love Craig... Layer Cake, Munich, Cowboys & Aliens, Logan Lucky, Knives Out, even Flashbacks of a Fool! Great actor, but his Bond was not Bond. Suave, sophisticated secret agent, cars, guns, girls, glamour, the man all men want to be and all women want to be with. A man on a mission for Queen and country, taking us to exotic locations around the world. THIS is the fantasy, THIS is 007. But what did we get from Craig? Well, Casino Royale, we got ALL of that. But after that? We got a washed up agent, borderline alcoholic, probably suffering from depression, pining over his dead girlfriend (who he only knew for a few weeks at most), now declaring his love for a woman he thought had betrayed him in her kitchen, and making breakfast for his daughter??!??!?!?!?! This is not the fantasy life we associate 007 to be. This can be real life for the audience, not the escapist fantasy 007 gave us in the past. Although I am a big Daniel Craig fan, I'm glad his reign is over.

It's heartbreaking and sad to see what they did to the character... and i don't just mean the end scene (which of course is quite silly and downright disrespectful to the franchise), SOO many other things were done terribly with the character in that movie to the point it didn't feel like James Bond anymore. James Bond having a child, is like Spider-man suddenly donning a green suit instead and shooting vines out of his wrists instead of web. A complete disgrace. And that's not even mentioning rami malek perhaps giving us one of the weakest bond villains ever (what was the point of that character??? his hatred of Blofeld suddenly turning into some lame-ass world domination plot, what?...) and a huge waste of his massive potential. I could honestly go on. With Craig gone, perhaps they will revisit some of the older bond movies and maybe give us a classic bond movie again with all the elements that we know work! (Feminists go **** yourselves!)

Great video!! With lots of excellent points as well! My own contribution to the unpopular Bond opinions is this…. I actually like Die Another Day!! ( ok ok I can hear Calvin’s computerized “ Boos!!” raining down on me) My feeling is definitely connected to the fact that my Mom and Dad - who took me to all the Bonds growing up both absolutely love it. Along with You Only Live Twice it was also the last film she saw before she passed away. So I’m sure that’s a factor. But still - I love the crazy action and over the top spectacle of it all. I love the Villains campiness and world threatening plot. I actually think Brosnan is actually great as James Bond in it( yes - to me it may be his best performance lol) I think the score is sensational and one of Arnold’s very best. And yep….. I LOVE that ridiculous invisible car! So sure - some of the dialogue is the worst of the series and it features the single stupidest moment in the franchises history ( we know what that is lol) But still - whenever I watch it I’m having a great time! And that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?😎

Agreed. DAD seems to rank at the bottom of the barrel for most people, but it's actually quite entertaining despite it's overabundance of bad CGI and ridiculous one-liners. Brosnan was in perfect form, i agree with you that it might be as his best as bond, Graves makes for an amazing villain, i for one love the plot, it isn't as convoluted and silly as some of the Craig-era plots and the entire first half is just simply AMAZING spy flick - love the imprisonment idea, something we haven't seen neither before nor since. As soon as they hit Iceland, the quality goes down a notch, but it's far from that horrible that people continously call it. All in all, i'd rank it Brosnan's second best after Goldeneye, honestly...

I’m with you on the Goldeneye soundtrack. Been a while since I last watched it, but I recall it fitting the vibe of the movie and the period it was made. Thanks for a great video. I now have a hankering to sit down and watch my way through all the movies from beginning to end.

Spectre is easily one of my favourite bond movies. I’d even rank it in my top 5. I get that the whole brother thing and trying to tie all the Craig films together was a bit of an unnecessary move but it’s focused on way too much by people.

I actually agree with your take about GoldenEye's soundtrack. I don't think the movie would work the same without it. On that note, Die Another Day is easily my second favorite Brosnan-era film, and I'll easily watch it over many of the more classic films of the 70s and 80s. I just usually have a good time with it, and Graves is so much more fun than Carver for instance.

I Like OHMSS more than you do, but I've never been able to consider it a really top tier Bond movie they way it's increasingly regarded as. Lazenby is easily the weakest Bond overall but his chemistry with Diana Rigg works and he is able to absolutely nail that crucial final scene of her death in a way that the Sean Connery of that time never could have. I've always seemed to like TMWTGG more than most, but no, it's still not nearly as good as Live & Let Die. As for your #3, tbh I've never even really took notice of that moment in the film before, and now I'll never be able see anything but your interpretation of it, so I guess if nothing else I owe you some thanks for introducing me to a deeper, more nuanced layer to the character development in that film than I was aware of. I agree that in the end Spectre is "fine", but for a film with the potential this one had, "fine" is a huge problem! Christoph Waltz as Blofeld? that is Fantasy League casting right there, how could that possibly turn out so "meh."? Some would argue that a film with the potential of Spectre turning out "fine" is a much greater crime than the troubled, screenwriter strike-plauged Quantum Of Solace turning out the incoherent mess it was inevitably destined to be. Don't love the Goldeneye score, but it's passable overall except for the whimpering end credits song and that garbage car chase music that you also call out.

We agree completely on 3, 4 and 5. Talisa Soto's performance in LTK is fine, Spectre is a perfectly decent middle of the road Bond film and Eric Serra's score for Goldeneye is excellent (and even The Experience of Love closing title song) is decent. 1 and 2 you're on your own mate, though I will say my difference in enjoyment between LALD and TMWTGG is minor so I can see it. 3-5 you're band on the money there.

9:29 100% agree. Goldeneye's score is awesome and it's a shame large parts of it were chopped in favour of a more traditional Bond score. It also inspired a lot of the music in the Goldeneye 007 N64 game, which is equally awesome, and very nostalgic for many 90's kids!

The Man with the Golden Gun was the first Bond movie I ever watched. It was on holiday in Zeeland, btw, but fortunately we had German television there as I had only started learning English back then. I was immediately hooked and became a huge Bond fan. Due to it being the movie that started it all for me it has a special place in my heart it likely wouldn't have otherwise. Probably for the same reason Moore is still my favourite Bond to this day, because he is the most easy-going Gentlemen of all the Bonds, always with that ironic, slightly arrogant smile. But I think also the plot has even aged rather well.
