Glad to see you're an Adam Savage fan. His big thing is organizing his stuff with what he calls "first order retrievability", meaning all his tools can be seen in one passing glance - nothing is hidden by anything else. I think you've achieved that with your shop upgrades.

A tip for the roll of paper: if you get a wood plank or a metal rod in front of it, than it can be used as a guide to cut it more square. If it is sharpened, than you should be able to sheer of the paper without the need of cutting it with a knife.

Workshop on Wheels i use an old bandsaw blade screwed to a piece of wood, the paper pulls down between blade and wood and when you pull up it cuts the paper, perfect straight cuts every time.

I am a 77 year old guy......high on energy, pretty impatient, fast working and definitely a belt and suspenders advocate. If most people would use 4 screws, you can count on me using 8 or 9, maybe 10. A friend of mine sat in one of my deer blinds, hunting was slow so he thought he would count the screws I used.....soon he gave up. I have been obsessing over a deer blind that is becoming unsafe and going thru a million iterations for an approach to building a new one. My introduction to Wranglerstar videos was the series about building a tree house. Since then, I have watched dozens of videos. .The videos entertained me for many hours, learned a lot. But mostly, I want to say: Thank you for what you do! Keep it up ! Good luck !

Regarding that bench grinder - another idea. Use the vise on your table. Fasten a 2-3 inch strip on the front of your grinder base or the bottom with a lip that sticks down. Then put the lip in the vise and clamp it.

Once those drawers have 'settled in' (likely somewhere next winter), you should probably make a couple of drawer dividers (like the things you also have in the kitchen drawers) fit to size for the items that 'settled' in those drawers. These things help prevent them to becoming a mess, and also prevent you from tossing other things in (as there be not designated room for them). Sounds like a fun winter woodshop project, that will help you keep the shop (and especially those places that are great for hiding a mess) organized.

The wood shop is quite lovely. Wish I could blink my eyes and produce one like it for Wendell. All the organizers are amazing and I am sure it is a joy to work in the space you have created. A kitchen utensil drawer is much the same as for tools, ugh, I very much dislike them!!!!!!!! I have all my most used kitchen utensils at the ready in canisters or crocks by each "work station". Enjoyed the tour of new stuff.

I may be in the minority, but as a serious woodworker with dust on everything, cleaning the guns in the shop was like peeing into the wind. Even with a good shop cleaning, I'd still get dust all over everything I was doing and the oil just makes it worse. Maybe a cover for that drawer would reduce it a bit, but dust goes everywhere it seems. Just my two pennies.

A little dust on a gun wont hurt it, you clean the gun to get rid of caked gunpowder which causes failures. But sure enough dust will just make matters worse, especially if that dust is sawdust.

Hi, I was thinking that you could have a similar setup as the "french cleat" but on your bench for your grinder, so you just slide in your grinder and secure it with a pin or dowel, it could still be compatible with the french cleat on the wall and you put a blank panel instead of your grinder when it's not in use to level the bench. I am thinking of doing this to be able save space and change from a router to a band saw fast and easily in my limited space. So my bench for the power tools would be configurable and movable without any tools required. What do you think ?

Great workshop. I’ve been extremely envious of your spaces, open and enclosed, since I happened on your channel. I have a couple of thoughts for you to maybe consider. First, if you have multiple tools, such as your grinder, that you hang out of way on your cleats and you don’t mind a specific spot or a couple of specific spots for working, you could carve some channels into your benches to match the cleat layout so you can drop them in without clamping. It would simplify and speed up your process just that little bit extra if all you have to do is drop it in place and it’s already secured and won’t slide around on you. Second, an advantage of a white paper backdrop, as a photographer, is that, by adjusting your lighting setup and subject positioning, you can have it be anywhere between full white and full black. There have been times I haven’t had the option of setting up a backdrop at all, so, by way of creative lighting, I just took everything in the background down to full black. The key limitation is space. If you don’t have enough room for subject/background separation, the backdrop will get more exposure. You can deal with that though, to a certain extent, with using flag techniques for lights. A white seamless is my #1 go to for studio work because it’s so versatile in its tonal range, including being able to use lights with gels and have it cleanly accept color. For what I’ve seen from your channel, if it were me, if I had one, it would be white. A second would be green for flexibility of making it anything you want in post production. A third would be black. The reason for black is that by adding more light you bring it up into the greys, so, between a full black and full white, you can cover, quite easily, the entire greyscale range.

Thought: after seeing the camera tri-pod taking up floor space...have you thought about installing a ceiling mount flex arm camera mount? think along the lines of a drafting light...that might allow freedom of floor space, move camera around easy, and when not in use, push up out of the way. Just a thought.

When you flatten the bottom of a chisel or plane iron, move the tool sideways or perpendicular to the stone so you can use its entire length. You'll help keep the stone flatter and you'll need fewer strokes. You only need to flatten the first couple of inches at most, of the steel.
