Put some dish soap in the water. Then you look for Bubbles. Way easier. Faster. Safer. If you see foam or large bubbles while she's running that's a leak. Check joints 1st. Then if you see black soot anywhere it's likely a leak point. 90% of exhaust leaks are bolts that need tightening or rotted gaskets. Cheap and usually pretty easy to do at home. If you catch rust or a scrape on the pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter they do make exhaust fix remedies but it's usually just a good time to get new equipment. Or at least we'll some real patches. But biggest tip I'd put here... Soap in the water. Not only is it easier to see bubbles but it takes a bit longer to convert into burning hot gas.

Those are good suggestions. That was what tipped me off to the catalytic converter was the black soot

Thank you very much, made it easier for me since I have the same car lmao

Below freezing? Heck it's -15F (-26C) right now so that will work great!

Hi, many recommend blowing air with vaccum or a leafblower into the endpipe and use soapwater too fond leakbubbles from the pressure ? Wont that hurt the engine wih crap ?
@HoodSwami4 жыл бұрын
I have no definitive signs of the leak but the front part of my exhaust is way louder than the back so I’m assuming there’s a leak near the cats or manifold

Can I do a temporary quick fix with jb weld?
@MuffinRacing4 жыл бұрын
You can give it a try! Make sure the JB weld has a high enough temperature rating

Can you use a blower instead of a shop vac? I have an electric Ryobi blower and it’s not that strong due to it being a lil old and from a garage sale. This would work the same right? Can you damage anything blowing too much air in the exhaust?
@MuffinRacing3 жыл бұрын
A blower should work too, I think it would have a lot higher flow rate than a shop vac. I might even divert some of the flow
@killaslaye3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Any idea on diverting the air flow?

What if for me it doesn’t smell in the cabin but the exhaust does make a weird loud sound when accelerating
@MuffinRacing6 жыл бұрын
It would probably be a good idea to look anyways. Carbon monoxide is odorless, and even if gases aren't getting into the cabin, the car will run worse if there is an exhaust leak

Muffin Racing my leak seems to be small but the sound of my leak is loud, do you think there is another leak somewhere, right now there’s just a bit of water coming out after the catalytic converters where it connects to the mid pipe
@MuffinRacing6 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly, even small leaks can be loud. My friend has a small leak in the same area and it's also loud.

Muffin Racing ok thank you I’m gonna try to fix it right now I’ll come back later if I need more help

Jb weld would make welding very difficult though if it doesn't work, though. Something to consider
@brolutiongaming39836 жыл бұрын
So, louder and more raspy? That sounded like a improvement.
@MuffinRacing6 жыл бұрын
+Brolution Gaming yeah, but the exhaust fumes weren't an improvement lol
@randynunez26695 жыл бұрын
Leaks make the engine work harder and lose fuel efficiency so not an improvement
@MuffinRacing5 жыл бұрын
It depends on where the leak is, it may not cause many problems

That's exactly what my car doing smoke coming out the pipe underneath the car

Definitely easy to find the leak that way!

Have you ever heard of grinding lol....
@MuffinRacing6 жыл бұрын
I have, but I didn't have a grinder at the time and I wasn't concerned for cosmetics, considering I will be replacing the cat
