i went in search of you on youtube because i'm currently taking your foundations of writing course on udemy. so glad you did this video my background is in screenwriting as well many of the novels i'm working on are scripts i'm turning into books. I'm in love with writing screenplays, I write them all the time but now that I'm applying my writing method(story clock) to writing novels I'm falling in love with writing narrative fiction. love your videos, such a great personality and alot of great info.

I used to not like mysteries but now, I have learned that adding mystery is a way to make the novel more cinematic. Thanks.

1. Write short chapters, 3 to 6 pages, maximum 10. Limit a chapter to one scene, one piece of information. Who is in this scene and what do they want? What is the conflict? 2. End each chapter with a cliffhanger, epiphany or twist. Introduce a new piece of information at the end. Doesn't have to be major. 3. Use a screenwriting method to plot your novel. Create a plot that moves up and down emotionally - bouncing ball plot, Blake Snyder's Save the Cat. 4. Conflict! 5. Insert mystery into every genre - hiding the ball. Foreshadow in increments. Doesn't have to be a huge part of the plot.

That's what my readers tell me... and I started out writing scripts and directing independent films, but moved on to fiction writing.

This is... part of it. Cinematic refers to how the images flow. Like camera movement, emotions, conflict buildup. And language. Mystery and short chapters, for instance, work. You should talk about how word choice, dialogue and paragraphs make a book read cinematic-like. Are there big landscapes with wide angle shots, flowing camera bounces and zooms and following characters?

You talked about 3-6 pages for chapter. There are word pages or smaller book ones? Thanks for your tips. Helpful

I believe what you are asking is if I meant actual book or word processing pages, and it's the word pages. Thank you for the nice comments!

Honestly I consider strict using of these methods an example of author´s inability to come up with something really interesting, so they have to drag reader basically by force. When I see interesting characters, setting or use of language, I want to know something more about them without cliffahngers at the end of everything, I just want to enjoy good writing, not to at the end as fast as I can. Seems to me like good method to write fast production things, that reader won´t rememeber a week later.
