My dad sexually abused me a couple times when I was a kid. He was an alcoholic and was emotionally, verbally and physically abusive toward my mom. He died in 2019. In spite of everything, I don’t hate him, at least not anymore. I actually feel sad for him because he never healed from his own childhood trauma. I’m 31 with low self esteem and shame. I feel like something is wrong with me; like I’m defective. I know I need to go to therapy, but it’s so hard to advocate for myself. I’m just tired of feeling like I’m just a body walking around with no purpose. May we all get to live the healthy lives we deserve. 💜

My dad physically abused myself and my mom the entire time I've been alive, and they were married. I'm adult now, of course, but pain of what I experienced as a child is still there. All my mistakes as an adult are a direct result of that pain. They're both dead now, and part of me is glad they're gone. Shame on me, but that's how I feel. The world sucks, and life ain't getting any better. Mental hospitals and jail aren't the answer. PTSD is no laughing matter.

No need to shame yourself. It's normal to feel relief when our abusers are gone, even if they were family. Take it easy and I hope you find relief and healing soon

I just found your channel and I’m glad I did. The way you explain emotions, thoughts and feelings are so relatable and you do it in such a caring manner. (I’ve been binge watching your videos). They definitely make you really think about things and put them in perspective. So Thank you!! Would you be able to do a video on growing up with a narcissistic mother please? I’m 57 years old and everyone is telling me to walk away from her because of my mental health. Which is pretty bad at the moment. Even though she treats me badly emotionally I still love her and I can’t walk away but there are a lot of days where I wish I could! I’m confused In how to handle her. Thank you again. From Australia 🇦🇺😊💕🙏

Micheline, I just found your videos. I can’t believe I’ve FINALLY found a professional that nailed exactly what I need in terms of past trauma; questioning myself and my identity for years and years. Even though I know I am a unique person with great character and integrity, I’ve struggled for so so to long and way to long on Self Confidence and Esteem despite having success throughout my life. I’m really in a deep rut and struggling right now with hope, confidence, esteem, shame, everything that keeps me down, frankly, regressing in life. I feel so broken and beaten. This video registered so incredibly well and to my inner soul because you uncovered my barriers and inner thoughts; and yet gave some great advice and helpful solutions! I wish YOU were my Therapist!!! I subscribed now to you and will watch any and ALL videos I can find on here if you. Plus any articles you may have published. I am so grateful Micgeline!

Why do people and articles always refer to caregivers? I'm curious because I feel deep-rooted shame even though my parents never neglected me, but I did have emotional bullying at school.

Just stumbled on your account today and I subscribed immediately, thank you for doing this, it's like you're describing my life. I love my parents but they are never there for me emotionally, they're the classic boomers who've never been loved right

I think some people look down on you because of the things that happened as a child but when you become a adult the adult that was around was abusive an the people that found out the story of your childhood want to hold you accountable for the bad things that happen to me as if it was my fault for speaking out about what was going on to me.

Due to extensive childhood abuse, and a possible undiagnosed issue, making school hard, AND bullying in school …. For years … I never had a safe space. so when it came time to be an adult and enter in relationships, those were also abusive. Now what I’m doing is constantly trying to strengthen myself. I have amazing ppl in my life now. Children are the most precious thing, I don’t see why anyone would do the things that they do to kids or talk the way they talk to kids as if they were trash. It’s really sad when those kids grow up and do the same to their own. So I don’t hate, my mother, although I don’t know her full story, the benefit of the doubt that I can create in my head to defend her is that she endured what she could not handle and never resolve. And this was the best that she could do and I absolutely adore her and of course, I forgive her. I just want to be OK, and learn how to be happy, instead of only experiencing bits and pieces of joy every now and then.
