Probably one of the most effective blunt force weapons I have seen carried by criminals is the skateboard, and one of the most effective stabbing weapons carried by criminals is a screwdriver. The reason I mention it is because outlawing other blunt force weapons and many stabbing weapons had never made sense to me. The bad guy will always find a way to carry an effective weapon that cannot be declared illegal.

The Screwdriver is a multi-purpose weapon for criminals as it is also highly effective for shattering automobile windows. Less violently incline auto-B&E specialists just use a spark plug.

Years back we had a neighbor kid around 16 or so that would walk past with numchuks and tease our dogs. We lived out in the country and our closest neighbor was about a half mile away. We had 500 acres across the road and 270 behind us with our lawn enclosed with a five foot tall fence and our house in the center. We had a German Shepard and a doberman and both were bought and trained at a K9 training center that had a good reputation. This kid would walk all the way over to our house just to mess with our dogs, striking our fence with his numchuks. One day we were sitting out front and he walked up and started, I told him that every time I see him doing this I would let the dogs out. He thought it was funny and kept it up, he told me that he would kill both my dogs if I ever let them out. I told him that i'm willing if he was. I told him that I had complete faith in the dogs and that the nearest tree was a quarter mile away so good luck. Well lets just say it didn't go well for him and he ended up need the paramedics, plus we had everything he did that summer on video for mom and dad.

Used to live in a neighborhood with loose, aggressive dogs. I was attacked on average, once a year. Used an expandable baton and the dogs seemed to immediately grasp the "reach" of the weapon and would stay out of range. Switching to nunchaku, I was able to hit several dogs. I believe it was because the dog estimated my "reach" to be only one of the legs of the nunchaku. And of course, my "reach" was more than twice an long. Later switched to pepper spray. Shot several dogs with pepper spray. I never was bit. My neighbors couldn't say that.

I went through that in North Charleston, South Carolina (1987), in the middle of a full-moon night. Nothing was there but swamps, alligators and Baptist churches, and believe me, those folks weren't saying any prayers for me. I was walking along the shoreline to my right, which was completely blocked by the shrubbery etc. and out from the left came these four regular dogs, barking, growling and moving towards me. I carried a plastic dagger at the time, I called it my 'Frequent Flyer', and I pulled that out and the dogs were NOT impressed. So I started acting very robotically, making these herky-jerky movements, and that did freak the dogs out but they always had that one dog that would try to circle around behind you. Not OK. So I'd abruptly swivel around to him and thrust the knife in his direction and he'd run back with the others. It took halting progress of about a city-block before they disappeared back into the black. I wish pepper spray existed back then.

Yes (i am german too but answer in english), the reason of ban is strangling. To own a N is strictly against the law, not only the using. Its a nice toy for to play but not that usefull against a serious and prepared attack. Every good stick is better. You dont believe? Hit a tree hard with a stick and then with a nunchaku, you will see and feel the difference. Fast arms will erase the swinging impact of an attacking Nunchaku, or: Go to a serious FMA or Krav Maga school near you and try to fight an Arnisador with a stick. After that you will use your N for the next campfire. Same with a Baseball Bat, nice against a scared and unexperienced victim but after a few lessons in FMA you never get scared about. You dont believe? When i had my own FMA group i told the beginners (sometimes young boys from TKD or big mouthed) to hit me with a bat, i promised 50 € if they can. Nobody can. Its beginners move in Modern Arnis. After that at first they were surprised and then they understand why its impossible to hit someone who knows the weak point of a bat attack.

The I can recollect, the local newspaper reported that New York lifted the ban on nunchucks. I’ve noticed that the majority of weapons bans tend to target items which are generally more effective as last ditch defensive weapons, more than anything else? Like, a collapsible baton, for instance, is more viably useful in being a better than ‘nothing at all’ equalizer in the advent of someone getting mugged or jumped, but probably not generally going to be first choice of weapons for someone intending to criminally use it offensively. Frankly, I think the heaviest, longest, brightest and most durable flashlight you can muster to comfortably carry in a side leg pocket is probably just as, or more effective than either, previously mentioned, and a whole lot more useful generally, otherwise, too.

A baseball bat is actually in a bit of a legal grey area, if it's intended to be used for self defense (aka as a weapon) it's actually illegal to have too. It's all about intent. An ex cop told me to keep a baseball glove and/or a baseball in my car with it so I can say that I had it for its intended purpose. That way, if I ever have to use it for self defense I can claim that I didn't carry it for that reason, have the ball and glove to help show that it was for playing baseball but when I needed it, it was what was available to me in the moment. Most cops probably aren't going to charge you for it unless they're just looking for a reason to arrest you and I doubt it would even hold up in court with the plausible deniability you'd have but still, if throwing 2 cheap items I already own into my back seat with it will save me from any potential hassle, it's worth doing imo.
@GiuseppeSimonetti Жыл бұрын
@@Blunt_Man I was always told to keep a glove and balls in my vehicle as well but realistically they can't charge you with intent for having sporting equipment even if it's just the bat alone. There has to be a reason why because people who bat aren't gonna have a glove with them.
@Blunt_Man Жыл бұрын
@@GiuseppeSimonetti 💯 really all comes down to just not snitching on yourself and realistically you're good. When I was a teenager around 20 years ago, I had a friend actually admit during a traffic stop that the bat in his car was for self defense because he didn't know that was illegal. Luckily, the cop just wanted to make sure he wasn't playing mailbox baseball and didn't care but that's about the only scenario where I could *maybe* see someone actually being arrested. It would have to be a pretty boring department cuz most cops have a lot better things to do than arrest people just for having something that could potentially be used as a weapon, even if they stupidly admit that's what it's for lol

True it’s unlike a gun or ranged weapon in anyway, it’s unconstitutional that they are banning guns, but there’s the hidden lethality there with the nunchucku, and the visual disincentive to engage. If your walking down the street w nunchucku, everyone should know your not one to be messed with. You wouldn’t be carrying those things if you didn’t know to defeat everyone you know with your hands. Nunchuku are the worst weapon. You're almost as likely to hit yourself as your opponent. Even if you do manage to hit your opponent, at that moment, you lose control of the striking stick because now it's bouncing off of your opponent to who know's what trajectory. It takes you a few moments to get the weapon back under control before you can use it again. Then there's also the fact that the striking power is actually LESS than if you just had a solid stick of the same diameter. Why? Because of the chain, you can't put your own body weight/momentum behind the strike. You can add force by making it swing as fast as you can, but the upward force is limited by the mass of the single stick you strike with. You can't put weight behind it.

Nunchaku used to be banned in Arizona a few years ago, but not for the reason you'd think. It was because they "could be used as a strangulation device." Also, if you have the choice between a nice stick and chuks, USE STICK!!!
@andrewmize8239 ай бұрын
Most bans on melee weapons have more to do with public perception than they do with any extra danger. The idea that a spring-operated knife is somehow more dangerous than an old-fashioned lockback simply because it can be deployed more quickly, for instance. The vast majority of civilians don't know the first thing about knife-fighting, so either knife is equally dangerous (or equally useless, depending on how you're looking at it) in the hands of your average jagoff.

The Sap or blackjack IS banned in Canada, but the CN and CP Rail Police were exempt from that ban at least up until the late 80's. They may STILL be exempt but I don't know for certain. Clipping someone on the base of the skull was a fast and efficient means of rendering a person unconscious, BUT a slight miscalculation could lead to a lethal skull fracture, and it tales surprisingly little effort to achieve either effect. That and it's ease of concealment was the reason for the ban in Canada at least. The weighted "Monkey Fist" knot is another item classed along with the sap as a banned weapon in Canada. A friend of mine had a book on Nunchaku techniques for riot police. The book was published in the 70's and Unfortunately I don't recall what country it was from initially. I assume the Nunchaku were adopted by the riot police due to intimidation factor along with effectiveness as a baton.

A few facts: Bruce Lee said he prevers empty hand and in a real fight he wont use a Nunchaku. All this twirling MamboJambo he shows was only for the screen, and today it became a kind of gymnastics item, 100 % twirling and show but 0 % effectiveness. Thats why these "Experts" use thin and light Nunchakus you can move very fast and without the danger of self harming but they dont have enough impact for to kill a fly. Real Weapon Nunchaku are heavy and slow and cant be used as a twirling toy. A story my former grandmaster tolds us at seminar: Once he was in the Phillipines and two australian Nunchaku "Experts" (means tournament twirling champions) were there too and gets real wooden Nunchaku as gifts from the Filipino Martial Arts GM. So these "Experts" were ask for to show some tricks. They stratet to twirl and a few seconds later one was knocked out by his Nunchaku and the other one kneels down with a bloddy heady injury. These Champions never had a real Nunchaku in their hands before but were "Australian Nunchaku Champions"... In germany Nunchakus were banned bec as a "Strangle wood" (thats the original translation), not as a punching/hitting item. Its bec you can use the chain against the throat. Like a Garotte. In my decades of Martial Arts and esp in FMA where you get teached fight with and against weapons i learned that a Nunchaku or a telescope stick is only good against unexperienced and/or not really serious attackers. To defend against a TS is same like a normal stick or a light metalstick, its beginners program in Modern Arnis. The Nunchaku has many weak points and is not as effectife like a baton, you cant block properly or stab. Its a nice movie weapon but for real use you have to forget this show elements. I ask another FMA Grandmaster how to work against a Nunchaku (bec i was that impressed from Lee and as a kid i made Nunchaku and try to twirl, of course) and this 10th degree GM answers "Like a chain attack. Not like an attack with a stick." And i understand the system about. Does nobody ask themselve why no gangs,Antifa or arabs use Nunchaku when it is THAT usefull like in the movies? Because its NOT.
