The water motor gong is to alarm people in the building and neighborhood that there is a fire. The flow switch interfaces with the building fire alarm system to tell central station that there is a condition in the building whereby sprinkler water is flowing- big difference.

It's actually called a 5 year obstruction test. Your supposed to take some pipe apart and look inside the system and look inside the riser at the condition of the pipe. During this inspection your supposed to change the gauges on the system which it looks like them gauges haven't been changed in a very long time. And I don't know what he's talking about back flushing a system. Never heard of that before.

Should not all the risers be painted red??

So when you say 5 year test, does that mean that you test every 5 years, or that every 5 years you have to do certain things tot the system?

Well it's my field of work too and in actuality, fire sprinklers save property... smoke detectors save lives.... think about it.
