A tip I found to avoid the wood rotting at the bottom if you elevate the house with some wood

Thanks for the measurements so I can build this for our five backyard ducks might have to add a fan cause it gets hot even at night here. Love the family interaction too.

5/9/24, I have ducks and chickens. Put small opening wire under and around edge to keep mice & rats from getting in and burrowing holes. I should have known better, I know have mice in my duck house and have to move it. Hope this helps future builders🥰

Great video, but I would always make the floor without an edge for easier cleaning (and ducks are messy, so I'd probably use plywood for the floor.

Duck studios. We had six mallards three. Male three females rais them. They migrated with the other ducks we got a small pond I figure they'll come back this spring me and granddaughter going to build a couple of them studio condo. We have small pond 2. Thanks for the video

Need better access to clean this out. Like the lid on hinges or something. Also, paint the bottom before installing it maybe? Good video but needs more DIY instructions for those of us newbies working with wood. Note: I may do this for a portable rabbit hutch with a run attached.

I have a Muscovy and a chicken that live together just fine. Got two duck that are mixed breed that wont go in the coop if the chicken is in inside. Going to have to build an extension

The beams that hold the roof. Are they cut at an angle to accommodate the slope in the roof?

Hi Faith, we have the doors on hinges as shown in the video. Also the ducks have been great at sleeping in there and actually not going the bathroom in there.

So building this this weekend! I am new to ducks. Mine or just babies right now. Question: What about ventilation? When they are closed in at night do they need ventilation? It gets hot and humid in Michigan. What do you suggest?

I am going to follow this as a guide, but use 1/2" galvanized wire on two sides for ventilation instead of the wood siding.

Do you plan on doing anything on the exterior? OSB will get wrecked by water really quickly and can't be left exposed to the elements. I saw that your chicken house is the same, with OSB on the exterior. Painting it will help a tiny bit, but it will still be completely destroyed within a year or so.

Hey Erika thanks for reaching out. We used sealant on the chicken coop to protect the OSB and will do the same for the duck house as well. We are also going to be putting roofing on as well to help keep a lot of the rain/snow away. Very good points you made though thank you again

They only have been sleeping in there so its not very messy, they dont need nesting boxes like chickens they dont care and will lay eggs anywhere lol. I pick up eggs every day all over the place
