$1700 a week is damn good money, even $1400 a week AFTER taxes is great. But doing the math here if you were to work 50 hours a week for the entire year your gross would be $152,412 to a net of $88,712. That is a definitely a big chunk off lol.

Hello! Thanks for making taking the time to make these videos. I really appreciate the insight from someone who has experience in this field. I am trying to get into the trade and recently applied to my local union. My question is not really relevant to this video specifically, but I just decided that I would comment here since this is your most recent video. In one of your older videos (where you were reflecting on having been in the trade for 9 or so years--don't exactly remember how many years it was), you mentioned that if you could go back knowing what you do now that you probably wouldn't pursue being an electrician because you would prefer to do something with your mind rather than your body (I do understand, however, that you weren't by any means bashing the trade nor were you saying that you generally dislike the work you do). That comment stuck out to me and concerned me a bit because part of the reason why I'm interested in pursuing this field is because I've been told that it can require a lot of problem solving and that it can, in that capacity, I guess you could say, be intellectually challenging. Do you disagree with that? I guess I just wanted some clarification (if possible) or more insight on whether or not you think that being an electrician requires you to use your brain/think critically on a regular basis. Thanks!

@samuelcloward241 Жыл бұрын
I’m a 2nd year apprentice in the union here in Salt Lake City. The truth is, at least so far, yes, there is PLENTY of problem solving and use of math completely depending on what you are doing. There are indeed some aspects of the commercial side that can be monotonous if you are doing the same thing for a while. Good thing about the union is technically, you can follow whatever kind of work suits you best. You aren’t technically tied to any one employer. Service work can have problem solving, and if elaborate enough, pipe bending can be constant problem solving. Especially if you are making the decisions of what the pipe does and how it gets to its destination. Being a Foreman or GF involves problem solving cuz you are the one who answers the tricky questions! I’ve heard “PLC” work can also be engaging but most of that work would be non union I gather, which is fine and could eventually earn you well over 100k I’ve heard and without working all that over time to get it. Network! Talk to people in the industry and all their friends until you find what fuels you. That’s my advice. But don’t hesitant just jump in, get started, get your journey card and then the doors are wide open! There’s plenty of great paying niches to make money in if you have a good head on your shoulders and will work hard. Keep in mind the internet doesn’t always represent what you can actually make in this industry. Sub techs for example can make lineman wages in some areas.

When I work 84 hours at 32 a hour I gross about $4,150. Take home $3,030. Taxes kill me and i don’t pay dues or anything just taxes and they take like $1100. You’re losing me on the overtime being a scam part. Naturally you’ll pay more in taxes as you move up in bracket. But surely you bring home more with overtime than without. Do you have to pay into a vacation fund? And if you’re getting a rather large tax return then you’re overpaying the government

Hi guy some one please tell me the different between home depot 2 gauge thhn copper wire and Lowes wire. They both made by southwire but why does lowe list it can only carry max 110 amp while home depot listed on their site 125 amp max. If I don't remember wrong, I think in store even said 130 amp. I plan to run 25-28 feet inside conduit over head inside garrage ceiling. 125 circuit breaker box. Thanks
