Even at $300/tank, just 5 stops/day would bring in $1500/day. $10.5K/wk x 50 weeks (gotta have vacation time😋) = $525,000.00/year. Taxes, dump fees and overhead would take half of that and you would still end up with $262,500.00. Take another 20% from that balance for unforeseeable circumstances and you're still clearing $210,000. Less than 10% of the population makes that in a year. And that's just one truck. Food for thought.

As a plumber the money is great. Work is hard on the body. I’ll be 60 next month and have had a shoulder replacement and my knees are done. I also have ate healthy and worked out all my life. There are drawbacks. Some things are hereditary though like arthritis. Having a trade is very rewarding. AI will never replace us.

I have had rotator cuff surgery on right shoulder. My knees are just about gone. My knees have slowed me down quite a bit. Ii charge an extra $40 for each upstairs toilet. They can save that $40 if they want to carry the new toilet up and the old toilet down. Even though I don’t carry the old one down, I just put it in the box the new one came in and slide it down the stairs. I joke with people and tell them that $40 is my knee replacement fund. It was $35! But I recently raised the price. The calluses on my knees are something else. I’m 28 years plumbing. I’ll be 47 next week.

My knees are wear and tear, I’ve had injury’s in both. Tore ligaments in one when I was about 20. My other knee I have patellofemoral dysfunction. That is basically my kneecap does not slide like it should. That happen when I was in high school playing football. Most of the time I wear a brace on that knee. I also regret carrying 50 gallon gas water heaters on one shoulder up flights of stairs when I was 18 and thru my 20’s. I’m sure that took its own toll.

I worked like an animal for over 20yrs installing roofs all over the East coast and never looked back. There’s a lot of money to be in in the specialty trade industry as long as you’re fair, treat people right, and over all “GET BACK TO PEOPLE ON TIME” it’s truly baffling how many people don’t get back to their potential clients in a timely fashion. That is one of the main complaints I hear from people. The best part of my job is to be able to meet so many incredible people as well as some not so incredible 😂 and being outside breathing fresh air everyday! The worst parts of my industry is the weather and the weather forecasters since they always get it wrong and still get paid. Love what you do and take pride in what you do and the sky is the limit in the specialty trade. There will be a lot of pain and headaches but the freedom you get from being your own boss is worth every second of it!

Isn’t the vehicle expensive? If it cost $300k and is payed over 7 years $3500\month. Add interest to that. Second hand might be cheaper but a lot of maintenance costs. Plummer on the other hand no setup cost. Electrician is better because you have a licence so you are not competing with DIYs. Waterproofing means that you can be sued if it doesn’t work. Diesel compressor is good because it is niche. Diesel mechanic is not mentioned but if you work on big trucks like Peterbuilt it is very well paid. Car mechanic can be good if you specialize in BMW or Mercedes.

Nice calculations, but where are the costs for the septic tank truck? Office for taking phone calls? Costs for advertising (nobody knows that you are in business)? Wages/Insurance for employees? Costs for equipment? Cost for gaining knowledge/certificates? Taxes? Emergency fund for low business months or unexpected repairs? All looks fine when you're cherry-picking numbers, but if you want to start and run a successful business, then you need to factor this in.

My cousin the owner always told me he would eat bag of sh!! for $5 so you have to really be money driven in life to take that business on.

With the septic pumping, a good truck with tank and pumps would cost upwards of 100 to 200 K in Australia. Fuel, tyres and maintenance etc would be more than 200 a day. If you are a good driver in Australia a road train job on wages pays around $50 an hour. Around 150 to 180K a year. I am not saying if you work for yourself is bad, but a lot of headaches and worry at times.
