I'd have go e at that with several splitting wedges and a sledge personally. Trying to use a maul on something that big is too much work.

Split "books" off while going around the log and it will work way better than trying to split the middle.

fyi you put it in the wood then get hammer and pound back of maul till it splits wood

In this video Taras gets a much-needed workout. ;>) I'd split that in four with a chainsaw, then put it aside to season. It's too wet as it is.

Cut your rounds, let them dry for 6 months. Then they will be easier to split. Cutting green wood while at it's strongest. Will take lots of physical energy. Dried wood, about 1/3 of your current energy expenditure. Cheers, Mate.

That's Cottonwood!! It's the hardest wood to cut or split, because the grain is twisted around it's self. Sometimes it's easier to split if you flip it over. Oh you are. A++++ for effort!!!

If my father would see me chop a log like this that axe would end up in my back ... for that size you use steel wedges and a sledgehammer, once you have 4 quarters you use an axe

All that dirt on the wood's surface is destroying that edge.

You'd better use this round as a base for splitting smaller logs...

Since you are left handed at swinging a splitting maul, try putting your right foot forward (as opposed to standing "square-footed"), when facing the rounds. Just try it.
