I think this was the development mule for the V10 S/RS6's- and all of the mysterious white powder is what was left after they decided to produce V10 saloon cars.

I've had a few S6s. I bought a V10 new in 2006 and still have it. I've also had the C7 S6 and now drive the diesel C8 S6. The point of the S6 is effortlessly fast and comfortable rather than sporty or handling focused. While the old V10 is an excellent engine, it costs a savage amount to run. Mine has been reliable but maintenance to 130k miles so far has been eye watering. It will easily drop a £2k bill for the smallest of things. Big cost is parts availability and labour having to remove the engine. My engine has been out many times for small auxiliary parts. Overall, while the V10 will take your heart, the current diesel S6 is the best all round S6 yet. I can cross the continent on a single tank. The V10 has you stopping every other hour if you're giving it some. By all means get one if you really want, but be well aware of the costs to run one properly. Mine has been very reliable but typical older car things cost 10x more. Starter motor etc are all engine out.

Having purchased a 2007 S6 5.2 V10, myself, just shy of a year ago... I can tell you for a fact you're in for some high-high's and some LOW-lows when it comes to S6 ownership! 😆 Pray you guys don't need to swap the intake manifold!! 🤑

Where’s the vr5 engine?!? Literally one of the most unique exhaust notes ever invented. Completely designed and built from the ground up, with 5 cylinders sharing a single head in V formation. Alternating size and shape inlet and outlet ports to create a sound unheard from any other engine in the world.
