The 500 changed the world of HSR design. A giant leap forward that changed high speed rail design forever. After so many copies, and, after so many tweaks to the design by the Chinese, the Germans, the French, and, the Koreans, the 500 remains the greatest train design ever created, IMO. If I were rich, I would buy as many 500s as I could, and, donate them to technology museums world wide.

Great design is great art. This design, like the best scotch, gets better with age. There is something about the 500 that is lasting . I hope JR keeps a few of these masterpieces alive for another 50 years, because their brilliance besides- pleasing the eyes extends to riding one at 300km/h.
There is a market for High Speed trains in America in the several population clusters we have such as the Northeast Corridor, Florida, The Midwest radiating out of Chicago, between the Bay Area and SoCal/LA and even between Atlanta, the Carolinas and DC. High Speed express commuter trains running at speeds between 100-170 mph would really be beneficial quality rapid transit for far flung suburbia/exurbia and regional cities

Nozomi 500 is the most elegant Shinkansen train ever. Newer ones may be better, but they can't match the visual appearance of this train.

I agree. When I go back to my hometown, I often take 500. It's a great train.

I would guess that JR stands for Japan Rail. But the 'Japan Rail' 500 looks more aerodynamic than the 700 series.
@wildcop6 жыл бұрын
500 can go up to 300km/h, 700 only 285. 500 was developed by JR west, whose railway is for 300km/h drive. 700 by JR Central, whose railway can only hold 270km/h. 500 could also run only 270km/h on Central's line, and is more expensive than 700. Central then developed N700, N700A, and now 700S, which can run 300km/h on their own line.

(sorry for english comment) NOZOMI 500 is how Modern version of the Galaxy 999 should look ^_-. On the side note, can someone tell me how much cost average ticket for those bullet trains?

A "bullet" train? A typical bullet travels at roughly 1000 feet per second (fps). Some as high as 3500 fps. This train, not nearly as fast, is not even in the same ballpark.
