My all-girls secondary school back in the 1960s did a fantastic job of enlightening us about homosexuality by screening the film The Trials of Oscar Wilde and organising a mock trial where Wilde was acquitted. In my junior school we had a mass debate on how to punish Nazi war criminals, thanks to the capture and trial of Adolph Eichmann. We kids were expected to be a lot smarter back then.
