Those Squier CVs are such good value for money. Also shows how much 'tone' is in the fingers. An expensive guitar alone won't make an average player sound great but a great player can make anything sound good. Good demo as usual.

Well put. I put my anti-Squier bias down a couple years ago and got a 50s CV Tele in butterscotch. Happily for me, previous owner had installed a SD Broadcaster in the bridge. And just this month I had a tech install a P90 in the *middle* position with a push/pull tone pot and I now have 9 tones to choose from instead of the 3 basic stock tones. Stoked!

Yes it is. I own one of these. The CS 51 is a “thicker” bridge, but with some EQ, you can make the Squier sound very similar if that’s your deal. The neck pickup is adequate,but not outstanding. It’s a little dull and a bit weak for my taste.

I just bought a Squire Classic Vibe Tele. It sounds really, really good. And I get it. The Fender is a bit clearer, and there is more space in between the notes. But I enjoy the warmer tones of the Squire, and I don't think I could justify spending another $1500 on the Fender.

I’ve owned multiple Teles. The last was a MiM Thinline ‘69. Sounded great but wouldn’t hold tune. Finally played a CV 50s then found one on CL here in Nashvegas in great shape for $300 and it came with a SD Broadcaster in the bridge. Loved it from first playing and shockingly, it held tune really well. Ended up installing a Powercaster P90 neck pup in the middle position, a 5 way blade and a push/pull on the tone knob. The P90 is hot AF (like 13k) but it plays well both on its own and with the other pups. Can get Knopfler 2nd and 4th position Strat tones and the Broadcaster’s tone is ballsy without being ice-picky. Can’t believe I love a freaking Squier but CVs are great. And clean fret work and ends, bone nut and straight-as-an-arrow neck. Sold!

Great video... I have a Squier Telecaster, I bought it last year and it was one of the best setup out of the box electric guitars that I have ever owned in over the past 25+ years... And the other thing that really is amazing to me, is never had a guitar with this great action of the strings... Just a slight pressure and I that that telecaster "bite and bark".. The sensitivity of the strings is what I'm trying to say.... Again, never had a guitar like this one before. Have a great upcoming holiday season.

Have a 2020 Classic Vibe Tele identical to the one in the video and using it for recording has been a dream. Not saying I can't tell the marginal difference between that and the Fender in the video but really - as someone says below - if you're a decent player and also get a decent set up on your guitar - whichever one you choose - then it's just a matter of how much you care about the logo on the headstock. Great video again guys by the way 👍

I've owned all sorts of guitars, many classics, and believe me, getting a 'Fender' won't make a shit a difference, so I'd save your money and keep your CV 50 and just get good at playing it and get used to how it feels. If you do want to add some more nuts to it, put a DiMarzio Pre-B-1 pickup in the bridge -- that's what I did to an old 70's Tele and man o man, what a difference! It doesn't 'color' the sound in any way but just makes it hotter when you crank up an amp and it also stops that horrible squeal that Tele's do when they feedback. That was probably the best upgrade I ever made to any of my guitars and it was inexpensive and easy to do. This is part of the blurb from their website and I would agree with it completely: "The Pre B-1 maintains a lot of the basic character of the Tele bridge position, but the sound is bigger. It can still cut through a mix, but it will fill more space, as well. It also has about 25% more power than a stock Tele bridge pickup. That means thicker overdrive and more sustain from your favorite tube amp." Cheers man.

I guessed correctly for which one was which. I also preferred the Squier's tone to the American Original. Could be a one off but I liked the Classic Vibe. First one I ever played I was passing through a larger city. The line had just come out and I tried it out along with all the expensive models in the store. It played better and for whatever reason had some flaming across the neck. They were selling it for 150.00 dollars. I told myself "next time" and would later see them all a month later on sale for over 500.00 dollars. Fickle Canadian prices as soon as they see a demand in anything.

Nicely done. As stated below another comment, after playing a few of CVs in-store, I got over my anti-Squier attitude and am glad I did. My 50s butterscotch CV I got off the Nashville Craigslist is easily as good as other Teles I’ve had. Modified it, adding a hot P90 (from a Fender Powercaster) to the middle position and the previous owner had installed an SD Broadcaster in the bridge. Also added a push pull tone pot and now I have 9 tones to choose from. I have dubbed it The Nastycaster. And over Labor Day ‘22, Fender had a ridiculous sale and I picked up a CV 50s Strat for $300 out the door. Incredible deep amber neck and the Fender-design pups are true to every other alnico Strat I’ve owned or played.

The squier altho light pine is covered in thick poly finish , The Fender is chambered ash These I believe have greater effects with regards to what you hear in this comparison. That said, I had a classic vibr that i took the gloss finish down to a satin on the body but that sticky poly neck was beyond help. I actually think the pups were one of the bettrr points of the squier… if they ever start to finish these squier classic vibe models in poly the custom shop is done….

I've just purchased a new CV 50's. I had so much regrets after selling the CV I had so I went along to the guitar shop and baught a new one. Unfortunately it seems to be some shielding issues at this one which I did not experienced on the first one, but I've already made an appointment with my tech on Wednesday so I guess he'll find out. I allso will swapped the bridge sales with new compensated in brass. I might allso swap out the tuners. The originals is very hard to turn so they have to go I think. It might be an adjustment issue but I'll see. I too failed the blind test. CV has in Mho everything a good guitar should have.

They both sound fantastic. A better comparison would have been a fender American professional with a pine body. I think it boils down to whether you prefer the mellower tone of pine versus brighter wood from alder or ash... and which pickups you prefer. Most of the nuances in sound can be adjusted in EQ since different woods inherently sound different.
@HenryPipes
@HenryPipes Жыл бұрын
I own both models and the pickups and wiring are doing 80% of the tone work. 15% is from the hardware and other things like strings and pickup heat. The Wood is doing less than 5%. The player and the amp is accounting for more than even the pickups. In the equation the wood is almost negligible except for weight. Pine is usually light and that's a good thing for me.

This proves there is little difference here other than an huge chunk of change. I find it curious that people openly embrace Asian-crafted products in every other part of their lives (cell phones, electronics, clothing, vehicles) but go all cork-sniffer on guitars. Ridiculous. We are one world, all humans. Remember, Fender owns Squier and is laughing all the way to the bank no matter which one you choose. And these two are razor-thin close. So the question becomes, How much are you willing to spend to satisfy your brand-name fetish? I'll take the Squier every time and keep the significant difference in cash in the bank. Great video Adam and Tom.

As for phones etc...you have no choice. As for American made Teles vs Chinese the American made 2005 I have is bullet proof quality from top to bottom with a neck that's as easily playable as any guitar I've played regardless of price and better than most. The Chinese neck looks and plays pretty good for the most part but in terms of pure playability and quality of feel and fret shape its not really close. Not bad , but like all things of high quality that last 10 percent of good performance or overall build integrity costs at least twice as much because it spends much more time in skilled builders hands.

I guessed right, because B sounded just a little better to me 😊 In the later demo it seemed like the American is a bit more solid sounding, and like you played it with more confidence, which might be due to the significant weight difference. A lighter guitar to me feels more right and gives me more confidence 😊 I actually just ordered a Classic Vibe 50s myself, because it sounds significantly better than my very cheap Harley Benton, which on the other hand has the perfect weight. So I might actually switch out the bodies. Because actually I wanted to upgrade the HB. But seemed like I would get more for less money with the squier. I will most likely switch the scratchplates anyways, because I prefer a white one. If I like the sound but not the weight when I get the Squier, then I'll switch the bodies. Because it has to feel right and give me confidence. Not make me feel clumsy 😅

The Chinese have the string guide mounted at the original 50's position (approx. at G-string, passed the logo), the Indonesian actually at the 60's position (approx. at A-string, in front of the logo).

Well i could tell but it's no wonder with the price difference. The squier sounds muddier on the low end and lacks definition.

I won't pay Fender prices anymore. I have the same CV Tele and a gold CV Strat and couldn't ask for better guitars.

The Squire guitars and Fender USA 🇺🇸 guitars are horrible. $800 in after market parts with certified materials used. The best materials combined with the best master guitar builder makes a great guitar for about $800US dollars . By taking a Fender Player series or Squire classic vibe series guitar and upgrading the entire list of hardware and electronics you can achieve a great guitar. Squire and Fender USA and Fender Mexico all use the medium grade hardware and the pickups are hit and miss so it’s a gamble there the tuner machines and the bridge and saddles and even the nuts are needing upgrades. Professional Guitar players on top of the field will all tell you about upgrades.

Got a Chinese made Squire 50's CV Tele I was gonna use as a doner body & neck for upgrades. When pricing out Fender American made maple tele necks holy shit you can buy another Squire CV for the price of one American tele neck! $500 bones for a neck! But fortunately that's were the big surprise came in at how well the CV neck was made and that somehow it's better neck than a American tele deluxe I bought used costing 3x the price! I saved myself $500 I can use for upgraded hardware and for around $700 or less depending on hardware cost, and alil work you can have a $1200 guitar! But then if you fall in love with it and you'll find yourself not wanting to sell it and just keep it, is the big problem if you customize guitars to flip these are hard to beat for quality and price point if that's your game.

Amen… Fender prices are insane right now. I try to buy American when I can but, when an American Fender costs as much as my Gibsons… Nuh huh. Neck for $4-500 is downright insane. I’d like to put a different neck on my Jimmy Page Tele and it’s the same story. Way too much money right now.
