Look, I'm 54 years old. I've been playing guitar since I was 6 years old. And I've owned them all (amps too). For $399 you're won't find a better Telecaster that with some VERY inexpensive mods (3 dollar Orange Drop capacitor, CT pots) and you've got a Tele that will hold its own against $2000 American made Teles. If I tell you the grapes are ripe, grab your bucket. I own this guitar, and the only mods I did was put an Orange Drop capacitor and put CT pots and selector switch in it. And it will sing like a canary. And I PROUDLY display the Squire logo on it. They deserve the recognition for getting you such a good instrument at that price point. And yes, the body is made out of pine - but here's what you may not know. The very first Telecasters were made out of - drumroll - PINE. Not Alder, not Ash, not Mahogany, nor some other exotic wood - PINE. So you're getting a Telecaster that very closely matches the ORIGINAL Telecaster Leo Fender made. There is not a damn thing wrong with this guitar I don't care WHERE it was made (though I do admit I prefer American ONLY because it puts Americans to work). So if you are on a tight budget and you can't go the Patriotic route, I suggest you go to Guitar Center and play this guitar. I liked this guitar so much, I also bought the 72 Thin Line Classic Vibe Telecaster from Squire (its actually more along the lines of the 69 Thin Line as it only has single coils in it instead of humbuckers and it just drips Outlaw Country music, but you can play anything you want with it). I use them both extensively, from Nashville Super Picker Chicken Pinkin' to modern rock and roll. And if you want to go Deep South Blues Man with a de jure Mississippi String Tie, then tune this guitar to either Open D or Open G and grab you a slide and plug into an amp with a tremolo - you'll have'em feeling the blues from the Old School.

I don’t like the thin Squier necks. I have big hands.
@thecentralscrutinizerr

@@powbobs You may like a "C" shape neck - not the "modern C". The Modern C is slightly thinner. If your hands are very big, you may want the D shape, it all depends on your personal preference, but I suggest you try them out. Also, the type of fret wire in them can mean a lot. I like the taller fret wire, some people don't. I had a friend that brought me a guitar of his to check out, he said he didn't like the feel of the neck. I noticed it had thin, narrow fret wire on it. I talked him into letting me "set it up" for him. I got him some jumbo frets and pulled the old frets out and refretted it for him. Gave him back the guitar and he said, "you replaced the neck.' No, I replaced the shitty frets that were in it. He was amazed at how much difference it made in the "feel" of the neck - because it does make a difference.

Central Scrutinizer Yes, I like the C better than the Modern C. I just find the Squier necks uncomfortable. My favorite is the neck on my Brad Paisley sig Tele. It’s like an even better version of the Baja Telecaster neck.

I got mine this week and I’m way impressed. Butterscotch Blonde, pine body, made in Indonesia. Looks, sounds and plays beautiful. I own 2 Les Pauls (Gibson and Epiphone), 2 American made Strats. This this thing holds it’s own against any of them and then some. Has the signature Tele twang on the bridge pickup, warm bluesey or jazz tone on the neck, and crunchy rock tone in the middle. Easily the best 400 bucks I ever spent. If you’re looking to add a Tele to your arsenal (like I was) buy this guitar, you will not regret it.

I have used my Classic Vibe over the past few years and love it more each time I play it. I own over 250 guitars, many high end and this is one of my favorites. In fact I liked it so much I bought four of them and they all play great. I even got my hands on a special one thst Fender made for a very short time with a Jazzmaster pickup in the neck position and a Jazzmaster neck and thot is one of my go to guitars.

I think the 50s classic vibe series squire is what Leo fender had in his head before any tone was ever heard to the public. It sounds traditional and looks the best of all 3 butterscotch variations including the affinity series and the player series telecasters.

I started playing electric guitar when I was about 14 years old. That was over 40 years ago. Entry level guitars back then were crap. I wish I had one of these as my first guitar. I've had one of these for about a year now. It's about my 15th guitar. I absolutely love it, it's a keeper. It would be a fantastic first guitar. It will probably be a guitar you will keep for decades if you play for that long. Good enough to play any gig with. Good luck with your guitar playing, I hope it brings you as much joy as it has to me. There's a good reason so many people play teles. Great guitars. Mine has brass saddles.

After watching your review I decided to buy the Classic Vibe '50s Tele. I received it today and it is absolutely beautiful. I expected it to be nice but it's much better than that. This is a high quality instrument. I was most happy with the neck. I love the high gloss finish too. Not sticky at all. The negatives are it came poorly set up. The action is too high but I can deal with that. The neck is somewhat thin but it fits my hand perfect. My first good guitar was a new 1974 Tele with a clear natural body and a Rosewood neck. I paid $399 for it. I always regretted selling that guitar but it was way too heavy. Not this one. I like this Classic Vibe even more. It's ironic I paid $399 for this guitar too 45 years later. The one I received was dated 4/28/20 and it was made in China. Outside of the setup I couldn't be happier. Landon, thanks for the review.

21 Tele in olympic white, maple neck - brand new in '72. I've owned more than 100 guitars, including Fenders similar to the one this one intends to emulate ('52 Vintage Reissue, for example). I've owned dozens of other Strats and Tele's, from Mexi's to Custom Shop models. Somehow Fender has elevated these Vintage Vibe models to the point that they exceed the Mexi's consistently, and often match or exceed the American-made versions. I have a Vintage Vibe Tele Custom, having owned an original '72 model (bought new), a later Japanese version, and then a Mexi. Of the latter three, the Japanese model was the best, but the Squier VV comes very close (the original being the dog of the bunch, lol). These particular Squiers are a steal at a minimum, and better guitars than even the Americans in some cases.

I have a Classic Vibe Custom Sunburst. It's double bound. I love it. It's based on early 60's models. Plays great. The original alnico pickups have grown on me. The sunburst and wood grain are very nice and there are no knots. Only complaint is some really ugly grain on the back of the maple and laurel wood neck. The neck is really well made and comfortable to play though. People that don't know about guitars think it's my nicest guitar. I have a black MIM Tele that I play a lot more because I'd rather scratch it up than the Squier.

OutRAjious sand it down. If your not comfortable with the job a repair person can do it with no drama. Just enough to take off some or all of the finish, not anything drastic to reshape the neck contour.

OutRAjious start with 200 grit sand paper and sand for about 3 minutes all over the back of the neck. Touch it up for a minute or two with 1000 grit and you’ll have a fantastic neck in no time. Just sand even and you’ll be fine. I did it to my CV 50’s Strat!

The neck is a bit slim for a Tele, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The jack on mine wasn’t great so I replaced it with a better one. Some of the metal tarnished quickly. Otherwise it’s the best value in a guitar I’ve ever seen. Far better for and finish than a Fender Classic Player Strat I bought since. Fretwork is lovely, stats in tune, lacquer was perfect. Pickups are great as well. Just a well made guitar. Absolutely good enough to gig or record with.

I noticed that for this 2nd generation CV's telecasters vs the first-run 50's Teles ( mine is a 2014 ) that the string tree has been given a shift. In the first generation run, the tree is next to the 'r' whereas this one is next to the 'S'. It makes a difference. Next, the first generation came with brass saddles, not just any brass saddles, but with grooved brass saddles so the strings won't move. These features make a difference. This one is nice and it comes close, but not the same. Cheers!

I had purchased one of these in early January this year and I have to say that this is one of the best guitars I have played for a decent price. I was in the market for a budget guitar and I got more than I wanted out of it. The pickups sound great and I don't plan on changing them, the review of the neck in this video said that it felt a little sticky because of the finish is quite possible but I didn't find that on mine. As far as the switch goes I would say it could use an upgrade but I think there pretty solid just stock. I would definitely gig with this guitar and put them up against some of the more expensive Mexican Fenders. I'd love to try one of the Stratocasters. Over all these guitars are very well built and have no problems showing off that it's a Squire. Brand snubs should check em out I don't think you'd be disappointed. Squire really have gotten better as the years go by and this Classic Vibe line is one of the best.

I don't know if they've made any changes in it since I bought mine in 2013 but I love that guitar. Mine has brass saddles and it looks like your newer one doesn't. A few years ago I had to sell off 2 of my guitars and four of the five amps I had, keeping the cheapest of each, the CV and Boss Katana 50. I'm glad I kept them. The only change I made on the CV was putting a real bone nut on it. It's on the heavy side and I've thought of modifying the body with cutaways, which would also make it more comfortable to hold. I like the stringing set up. Looks good. I keep thinking I'm going to strip off the finish on the back of the next so it plays easier.

I've been playing one of these for about 5 years. Mine came with the brass saddles, which I think look a little better. I haven't had any problems with the pickup selector switch. It's a very playable guitar, and I like the tone just fine. I did sand the back of the neck with some very fine wet/dry sandpaper. It was quite quick and easy to do, doesn't look bad at all, and makes the guitar much more playable. Although I like the vintage tuners, I think the guitar needs a little more tuning than my G&L ASAT Tele, which I actually play more than the Classic Vibe. Don't get me wrong. The CV is a beautiful guitar, which I'll never part with, but I find the pickups in the G&L just a little more versatile.

I agree about the classic tuners, I like them, and you never have a sharp string end poking you. It was a floor model that everyone played in the store. I got a great deal because of this. I think it was around $350 with shipping. I was kinda freaking out waiting on it. Finally the day came and it was everything I wanted in a Tele!!! I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone. I have two very expensive american Telecasters and this one is my number one. I love it! Squire is one of the most underrated builders in my opinion. It has to many good things to list here' but I will say that on mine the neck is all one piece and not a glued on fretboard. Of course, there is a difference in the grain pattern and I am especially pleased with the look on the back of my guitar. Samson, If you want a good inexpensive amp to start with, you could do worse than the Boss Katana 50; I have had this exact same guitar for about three years and love playing it. With that amp it is a sweet combination. I put in noiseless DiMarzio pickups a couple of weeks ago and they sound really smooth but still have bite. But I liked the stock pickups too. I've owned a squier affinity and a classic vibe. I absolutely hated the affinity...it never stayed in tune, intonation terrible, pickups thin sounding, and it felt cheap. I absolutely love the classic vibe telecaster... worth every penny above the affinity. It sounds epic, pickups phenomenal. I played it against my core PRS custom 24, Gibson Les Paul, 335, American standard strat, and Chris Robertson, etc. and it's shocking how good the classic vibe sounds in comparison. The pickups are even clearer than my strat pickups which are single coil too... and much clearer than all of my other guitars. They are plenty punchy too for lead playing. The build quality is rock solid... and pickups are perfectly balanced. I don't think you can get a better sounding telecaster no matter what the price... but maybe you get less sharp frets and nitro finish. The poly finish on this guitars doesn't effect resonance on this guitar at all though ..it resonates for days... just as much as any of my nitro guitars. I don't care what the name on the headstock is... If a guitar sounds this phenomenal I'm proud to display the company name on the headstock...who cares that it doesn't say fender... squire deserves high remarks for this one. No reason to spend a penny more for anything else. As long as you don't get a dud... but that can happen with fender, Gibson, and other guitars too...
