ABANDONED Car Rescued From Woods After 50 Years - 1960 VW Beetle | 4 Full Restoration

Today we drive through the NH woods into an old car graveyard from over 50 years ago. This is the first car we rescue and pull from this honey hole but not our last. The VW Beetle is rusty, rough and buried in the ground but is it savable? To be Restored ? 4 Full Restoration? It has an engine, will it run after sitting 50 years in the woods?

I'm 56 and have rescued a few hundred VWs and other cars and trucks from the woods, desert, farms and junk yards, just like you're doing. It kicks one's ass after awhile. I'm still after a couple of buses in Nevada that I'll go get eventually. Like you, I carry two drum-puller kits; a cheap Chinese made puller and a Blue Point puller. The Blue Point is the way to go. Keep at it, as you're keeping me inspired.🙂👍

But it's people like you folks that save these rusting VWs for restoration and parts, and save them for historical and enjoyment purposes. While I'm not doing any rescues any more, I truly appreciate the work it takes to retrieve and restore the cars I drove in my teens while working at a used car lot. Good work guys!

At first I thought that this was a fake video. Okay, the old bug was in his favourite condition (stuck deep in the ground and without floor pans). But the guy, who looks exactly like 5150mxVW, came fully prepared! I've never seen that in all the years I watch this channel. But after some time it became clear: It is an original and more or less typical 5150mxVW rescue mission video! And as masochistic as almost always. 😁 ;-) Nevertheless: In the end he always brings something home. Sometimes he is in a limb mode after those exhausting rescue missions, this time it's the car too. 😱🙈 Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and health in particular.

@@5150mxVW no sweat homie!! I have an April 1960 pearl white beetle and I love the odd ball quirky one year stuff they have!! Weirdest part is the trans mount on the nose cone of the transmission, which raises it slightly, which tilts the engine down a tad, which means one year only dipstick!! (Supposed to be painted red! So we dont mix em up!) Stock muffler would have been different too as a result! Fan shroud has 1 year only rubber wire clips, and since it's the last year for screw type wire connections, the turn signal switch is incredibly rare!! That and the vertical key slot. Also cool 1 year color options! I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, but they are such cool weird beetles!! Cant wait to see more on this car!!! Have a Rad Day duder!!! You kick ass dude!!!!!!

I helped a buddy pull a late 50's bug out of the woods a few years back. We were worried about the rusty framehead and didn't want to rip the front beam loose. So we cabled up to the transmission horns, pulled from there, and bundled the cable to the front beam to keep it pulling straight. Worked like a charm. Also, when pulling brake drums and the shoes get stuck to them, take a long punch or screwdriver and poke it through the open lug bolt holes to push the shoes back towards the backing plate. Helps keep things from binding up and making the pull even harder. BTW, did you dig those black tent poles from the scrap pile next to the Westy? Also, that split bus door is a Palm Green/Sand Green from a 56-58 bus. Nice score!

It's amazing that there are so many cars hidden in the woods. Getting them out of there requires courage and self-sacrifice. I did that in the past (in France with Citroen Tractions) have a lot of imagination. Extracting Ceyye, all alone, devoured by insects was not easy. The problems even went as far as the trailer. What courage it takes, sometimes.

I kept hearing the Monty Python song as you were deep in the forest, "I'm a Lumberjack and that's OK,,," 😅🤣😂. Then the Archeologist Song began to play as you were extracting the car, "Oh I am an archaeologist you can tell it by my physique, If you listen very carefully you may just hear me creak, My knees have gone, my back is bent...." 😁 Yup Jason, I looked up Perseverance in the Dictionary and sure enough, there was a picture of you. Thanks for another awesome video my friend. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
