The question isn't whether social media is harmful to children, it's whether banning phones in schools will reduce that harm. The hypothesis is that if school phone use goes down children will use social media less, and this will improve their mental health. But we don't know whether that's true or not. It might just be that social media use doesn't go down because kids will just use it after school, and we'd have spent all the time, energy and regulatory capacities to implement a solution that didn't work. Of course the opposite might also be true.

Great interview! And what he said about biotech being a tough sector to work in really resonated with my personal experience.

Good debate! Would love to see some saas ceos defend their position in an ai-enabled world (e.g. salesforce, adobe, etc.)

Love this idea. We will work on it.

I would never support banning phones in schools given the propensity of school shootings. Literally had one last week at the school my mom attended growing up. A compromise would be to put them in some type of holder in the class so the kids wouldn't be distracted by them while in case but could reach them in case of emergency and access them as they leave.

I like Elad, but his responses only strenthen my agreement with Sam's point of view on this topic.

Elad had a point about the application layer potentially becoming fertile ground for sticky products and services. I don't think Sam is opposed to this possibility.

Working on computer vision cameras to thwart school shootings. The cameras scan, do a 3d mapping and alert the control center if weapons are found

How do you plan to validate the school's willingness to pay? There's a story of Brad Adcock in My First Million's "listen to these 40 minites to unf*** your life" episode about how he pivoted his tech (very similar idea) to other field to make money so he could donate the tech to schools because schools ain't able to afford/don't have the budget for such product.

Can’t we find a way for software to limit kids to 15minutes/hour and 4 hours a day?

SaaS is just a wrapper on a SQL database??? That is like saying a furnace is just a wrapper on fire. Technology always builds on itself.

They also think SaaS isn't worth anything anymore. 😂 At least they are bringing in optimistic investors like Vinod and Elad. There is hope for them after all.
