Fun episode! Thank you team Morins and Lessins. I agree with Sam re. data availability for bipedal robots. Challenge is, to get the physics of contact right, one will need a ton of data quickly from the biped itself. But these bipeds have stability challenges and collecting lots of data is really hard. IMHO it is more likely that a quadruped will be trainable before a biped as it has inherent stability and engineers can try shit out without it falling.

I guess the most telling part of the podcast is that if sam doesn't like the way a virtual assistant is performing he says he will kill it until it does the job the way he wants it done.

I am more surprised that we haven't seen a professional social network competitor come in to challenge Linkedin. Especially with all these job listing sites that take in your resume and provide the same services to recruiters. Seems like an untapped vertical to add more networking capabilities to their offerings through a more social framework. It's also strange the Meta hasn't taken Facebook up the more professional vertical given its social relevance deminishing among younger users. They could easily reposition the UI or add an offering to make your professional experience more front and center. Then add targeting services to recruiters. They have a Facebook dating option, they should probably do a Facebook networking or recruiting option as well.

Totally agree about the Meta glasses. Apple should partner with Warby Parker and do their own version. They should power them with Apple Intelligence and position them aa an Apple Intelligence device, not a Vision Pro replacement. Apple should also begin development on a full scale television. It could be the flagship home product for Apple. It could be the real hub for the home.

I bought the Apple Vision Pro, played with it for 9 days, and returned it on the 10th day. My usage dropped dramatically after the first week. After returning it, I did not miss it a single minute. This is an Apple product where there is no FOMO. It is so impressive to see how much engineering was done to build this product, but it is such a flawed consumer device. I felt weird wearing it at home with my family around, I had to wait for them to go to bed and then watch a movie in it. I felt embarrassed and anti-social wearing it when people were around me, not a great experience.

Jess: "Why? Did we just want to believe?" - maybe, but I think ultimately it's a disposable income thing. The iPod was cheap and superior and mass-marketable. It was down-hill from there. Less Apple. =)

Right now AI is really just looking like another extension or UX shift. Many incumbants are just building it into their UX and adding another service to their existing customerbase, through mobile and their websites. There are only a few AI first companies breaking through the noise, but they are also being hit with lawsuits. Suno, Udio, Perplexity, and OpenAI being the prime examples.

Can’t we find a way for software to limit kids to 15minutes/hour and 4 hours a day?
@oiuhwoechwe21 күн бұрын
dont give your kid a phone then. we survived several thousand years without them... jus saying.
@vvee472523 күн бұрын
The question isn't whether social media is harmful to children, it's whether banning phones in schools will reduce that harm. The hypothesis is that if school phone use goes down children will use social media less, and this will improve their mental health. But we don't know whether that's true or not. It might just be that social media use doesn't go down because kids will just use it after school, and we'd have spent all the time, energy and regulatory capacities to implement a solution that didn't work. Of course the opposite might also be true.

How do you plan to validate the school's willingness to pay? There's a story of Brad Adcock in My First Million's "listen to these 40 minites to unf*** your life" episode about how he pivoted his tech (very similar idea) to other field to make money so he could donate the tech to schools because schools ain't able to afford/don't have the budget for such product.

I would never support banning phones in schools given the propensity of school shootings. Literally had one last week at the school my mom attended growing up. A compromise would be to put them in some type of holder in the class so the kids wouldn't be distracted by them while in case but could reach them in case of emergency and access them as they leave.

Most mathematicians go into analysis/PDEs since they have applications to physics and engineering. Category theory is really just relegated to homological algebra/algebraic geometry and mathematics that uses these fields like elliptic curve cryptography.
