#56 Return To North Wilkesboro Speedway After 32 Years WOW Watch To The End !!

We visit the famous North Wilkesboro Speedway for the first time in 32 years. We also take a look back at my time as a crew member in NASCAR stating our with a small independent team then moving up to a well funded team.

The track was being cleared by firefighters volunteering their time. If y'all have Facebook or Twitter like or follow Save the speedway. They have posted pictures on Facebook of the work being done of the trees and brush being cleaned up

Great video👍🏻it’s a sad site for sure but I believe this is what nascar fans young and old are longing for a short track Saturday night special beating and banging for the win. Would be great to see this historic track roar back to life with a whole new generation of fans supporting it. I truly believe it would sell out every race

Wow Ronnie, loved this video! Been on the road a few days and just got to watch this. I really hate that I didn't know you were in Wilkes. I would have come down to the track to see you for sure. Thanks for all the great film footage.

Man the last time I was there was 87-88 I was 7 or 8 and it was super cold that day. We were seating up in the corner about where you where. I remember there was 2 big people seating in front of me. Everyone around was freezing and I’m sweating. During a caution I look up at my mom and say I’m hot. She let me take my jacket off and sat there and watch the rest of the race.

Thanks for the memories, I spent a lot of time there and N W. It is a crying sham it was left in the shape in is in. I hope they bring it back. Next Martinsville will look like that. Good luck .

Probably so. I can't imagine anyone from Wilkes even watching any races now, the way they have acted. A good friend of mine has a family member in the Hall of Fame, and even he stopped watching when they started doing this crap.

I think NASCAR could put more short tracks in his schedule, unfortunately actually they are putting road courses and changing the stock cars to "GT cars". Congrats by this video! Very cool histories!

Thanks for sharing your memories. We stopped by the Speedway in July 2020 and I agree with you that it will take a tremendous investment in time and money to ever host a race there again. I hope it happens.

Thank you Ronnie for sharing your experiences, your historic pictures, and video footage of North Wilkesboro Speedway. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video for sure! I noticed in a few of your pictures, at Talladega Superspeedway, on pit road during an ARCA race the Carl Miskotten owned Anglo American Auto Auctions Buick. Was that you working with their pit crew, and did you get to work with Carl Miskotten III and that race team?

Thank you! When I was working in Winston Cup I’d make extra money by gassing for ARCA and Busch teams on Saturday’s. I’d charge $75 a race to gas. I am so glad you gave Carl’s last name as I couldn’t remember. I remember his dad also qualified for this race but he did a start and park so he could crew chief for his son. This track was part of the foundation of NASCAR. It should have never been taken off the schedule. People love this type of track. All for the money… sadly now NASCAR could use a track like this since the sport has been fading for several years now.

4 those of u living under a rock the state of nc has comitted 9mil. split between nw and rockingham speedway.plus the owner of camping world outdoors has also committed 1mil of his own money towards nw so yes they will come 2 life very soon plus there is a new website 4 nw speedway 2 keep u updated on the rebuilding process.

Sadly, I agree that there won't be another Cup race there unless someone dumps a trainload of money in it. IT still might have a chance for some of the smaller feeder series though since the worst part pf the stands look like the extensions. Those could be gotten rid of for scrap or auctioned off for added money. Watching those races there were action packed back in the day. Part of us are still there and will probably die when that place gets leveled for a Walmart or Amazon.

Thanks for the video, but please drop the sappy music. Too many people are so ticked off already a out the track being left behind by the Nascar $$ machine that trying to stomach the current state of the track is NOT helped by that music. Good news is they are trying to start it back up again. They should have at least kept the track paved and used it for testing and movies. The owner must be a moron...
