Possible moonshine cave found under stands at Wilkesboro Speedway

3 ай бұрынStock car racing's historical ties to moonshine have been well documented for nearly a century, and now a new chapter has unfolded with a discovery at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
A tunnel was found below the grandstands of North Wilkesboro Speedway on Tuesday, according to Speedway Motorsports - which some believe could be a historic moonshine cave. Crews were inspecting damage caused by a sinkhole when the cave was found.
The tunnel is around 700 square feet. Track officials say rumors have circulated for decades about its existence.

What's so surprising that a NORTH CAROLINA speedway would have a Moonshine secret tunnel from decades previous? Hell my father made Moonshine his entire youth in NC....WEST JEFFERSON was a dry county.😮

Probably those who knew are deceased or old enough that they aren't likely to talk about it. Older people don't have the need to spread news like younger people do. A still was found 100' in woods behind a church in a very rural part of Tennessee. No one knew anything about it., or so they said.

It was a tunnel under the bleachers that collapsed like a sinkhole. Chances are the entrance was somewhere else.

Moonshine is still made in all 50 states. Even in Hawaii, Okole Hau, which means Iron Ass in Hawaiian, can be found in some rural areas.

I doubt the owner of the track at the time of moonshine in its heyday wanted the feds poking around his race track,I'm sure there was plenty of shine in the parking lot,or the woods next to the track,but under the grand stand. No ,folklore yes, the owner was not stupid.

A track historian has shown pictures of the old track and that is where an old entrance was. Erosion has caused this dirt to was away. Nice story though.

Middle georgia raceway in byron ga had a still under turn 3 back in the early 70s. Lol. Nascar used to race there. Also in July of 1970 jimmie hendrix played before his largest U S crowd there. Estimated crowd of 300000 to 500000 at the second atlanta pop festival. I live near there. I was 10 back then. This is bob not tammy.

In the early days of nascar the legend Junior Johnson primary income was running moonshine. However there is no official records of that. Junior Johnson was never caught.
