57 One Thousand Steps
1
If you have never been to the US Capital,
The National Mall in DC
I think you’d be surprised there,
At all the marvels that you’d see,
2
But one rule to remember,
It is a large engaging quest,
From the dome on the eastern end,
To Lincoln in the west.
3
And between them are miles of trails,
To history all laid out,
So that a seasoned hiker,
Might complete the entire route.
4
But from Viet Nam to Korea,
The reflecting pool can never hide,
The Air and Space Museum,
And the White House on the other side.
5
Then looking a little further south,
This time a Jefferson reflecting lake,
And in the middle of it all,
You learn of the Washington Monument mistake.
6
But by the time you reach Science and Industry,
Or the Natural History displays,
Your legs have turned to bubble gum,
And your feet have turned to clay.
7
So your limit should be a thousand steps,
And then take the trolley for a fee,
It is a wondrous exhibition,
And all but the trolley ride are free.
