How awesome that you are making houses with the size of apartments that are important for the Purple Martin survival! Their numbers are already diminishing from pesticides and mercury levels where they winter in the Amazon basin. Providing the right size housing for them is the least we can do to keep them healthy, less prone to predators, and breeding properly. Way to go! Thank you, from a serious PM landlord. 😊

I was excited to discover this video with the exact same rocker that my sister left behind with her estate. We have been trying to find a similar match on line. The original seat hardware /mechanics are all there, but the upholstery needs replaced. We are in the process of sorting and gifting her estate items. We are looking for any information on how to place a value on the chair. Do you have a guesstimate or could you point me in the right direction?

I have a trunk that is a wooden slat (zebra) trunk that is a different style but exactly the same hardware (corner pieces, lock, latches, etc.). The lithograph on the lid is similar in style, but has a different pattern. I can tell you, with 99% certainty, that this trunk was made by Martin Meier and the company that made the lock was Star Locks from Philadelphia. Meier's trunks were considered a more top-end trunk in their day. The key, if you have it, has a star cutout at the top. Anyhow, just fyi.

Well made and thought out Sir . I only wish I had a little of your woodworking skills so I could confidently restore the lovely horn cabinet my daughter got me for Mother’s Day. Unfortunately minus the lift mechanism and machine platform top also minus the interior ledge for using an acrylic flat frame to drop the machine flat with the table. Love that you made a third option for using the top as a table as well. I have a Brad gun , jigsaw, many tools but not the tool you used to do the interior ledge rim. Saving your video in hopes I can either try to do it myself or get a handyman who’s willing to give it a go for me in return first payment and showcasing their talents . One way or another I absolutely must restore this lovely and helpful cabinet.

@MemphisApplegate I'm guessing by the size and use of carriage bolts and 2x4's it's meant to hold considerable weight. That step has me a bit concern...perhaps it should be reinforced underneath with L brackets

@MemphisApplegate thanks for the lesson. How much space did you leave between the frame/doors and in between the doors themselves please? I'm about to make a couple double gates and doors... I'm guessing this was a two person job to hang them...one to hold and one to pre-drill and screw. Unfortunately I'll probably be doing it alone...my theory is screw spacers to the posts then clamp the hell out of it until my screws are in. If I know how much space to leave on either side I can do the math for the width.

When I was in kindergarten I had 2 girlfriends! They were twins! And beautiful! And being in kindergarten I had no idea what to do with them! On the plus side I can say I accomplished many men's fantasy of having twins... on the downside I can say my love life has been a steady downhill trend ever since! lol... enjoyed todays poem.

I hear you on the downside. As I got older, not only was I naïve. I became shy, socially awkward, and troubled by my poor showing in school. By the time I became a high school teacher in 1974 I started to realize that all my assumed problems were nearly universal in teenagers. I was more toward the average in teenaged stupidity, rather than being slewed far to the right. Thanks for watching and commenting.

i NEED HELP- trying to rehang a chain link gate that is about 8 or more feet wide--it came off the hinges very easily---but now to reset the gate the male part is NOT going into the female part of the hinge. no matter what i do. i even tried reaming out the hole and using a dremel to thin out the male part. i am not that strong at age 71 and cannot afford a handy man. should i just buy new parts? or do you know an easy way? UPDATE-- I BOUght new hing gate parts and it worked as the male part got warped and would not longer fit the hole
@MemphisApplegate

You might try loosening the female part from the post, which will open up the hole enough for everything to fit.

Really enjoyed seeing your invention of the camping cot leg extenders. My twin sons, who are 23, and I went camping this weekend. They bought me a camping cot for my birthday coming up. Like your cot, it was only 12" off the ground. I'm a big person, so it was so hard getting up and down on the cot. I really like your idea. My cot has the adjustable back section. Do you make these for the public? Thanks again for sharing your idea.

I'm 240 myself and 77 years old, so I know about those 12 inch cots. I wish they made the leg extenders commercially,, but I]ve never seen anything like them. I don't make them myself, but I bet you could find a local woodworker, or your son to make them. Pretty simple design, as I remember it.

I never understood the whole "clowns are creepy" thing and wondered why anyone would feel that way. Then I figured it out. My childhood exposure to clowns was The J.P. Patches Show, a beloved Seattle Icon. His show ran from 1958 to 1981 meaning every part of my childhood and young adult years were influenced by that goofy, kind, and loving clown. In a childhood that had a LOT of trauma and pain, that clown was everything good. A reminder that if you truly want to understand a person's quirks on anything, you'll probably find the answer in their childhood experiences.

Ah, those c rats. Heavy to tote. I remember well opening the mystery cans that had no labels whenever cooks dumped the main course in hot water for a hot meal. Lots of trading around for something we liked, using the term loosely. Camels and Marlboro, and Winston and pall mal. And the toilet paper wrapped in brown paper. Hard chocolate. Funny thing, some of the boxes were dated 1959. And that was us--Fort Ord Infantry in 1969. Ah, those memories. Thanks for sharing Chief. Lord bless, keep, shine ....

I'm lighting a full chimney of charcoal as you read this. It's chicken time 👍🏼
@MemphisApplegate
@MemphisApplegate 2 ай бұрын
Remember, you can make your own charcoal. It only takes a couple of days work, a big bonfire in your backyard, 20 or 30 bucks worth of hardwood, a couple hundred gallons of water, and two tons of mud. The payoff is nearly $5 worth of charcoal. But your homemade charcoal doesn't burn real good. Better to grind it up into a powder, and add twenty-five percent coal dust, a few pounds of corn starch, add water and mix into a paste. Form the paste into brickets and leave them in the sun to dry for three months. Edit: If I can do it, you can do it. Thanks again for watching and commenting. More diagnostic videos.

Lovely job. In my garden there are some larch trees which look like giant bonsai and I’m thinking that a Japanese style bridge over the stream would be perfect. The problem would be stopping it from moving in the high winds. I like your idea of anchoring it to posts at each corner - that should do the trick. Thank you.
