These books are OUTSTANDING! Really and truly. If you get the Perfect the Past in Spanish by Lightspeed Spanish, it will all of a sudden CLICK in your mind and end the confusion between preterite and imperfect AND between ser and estar. If you thought Madrigal's was magic, try these! Seriously.

Hi Gordon y Cynthia, many thanks for the interesting and helpful videos. A question/suggestion, have you ever issued a video regarding tips and tipping in Spanish bars and restaurants? I'm never sure when, where and how much to tip the waiter. It would also be interesting to know how much they are paid and how are they paid, ie. by the day week, hour etc. Are they generally on a contract or salary? Many thanks for all your efforts........ Steve.

We're not good tippers in Spain, unfortunately. The better the service, the more we tip. If we didn't like the service, we don't tip. (I always tip, by the way, unless they're rude or something strange). Let's say that we tip about 30 cents per 10 euros that we spend. But, you don't have to follow this and you can tip whatever you feel like. Tips are usually shared with everyone else at the end of the month (with cooks, etc). That's how it was where I worked. Maybe it's different depending on the bar/restaurant. Waiters usually are on a contract and get paid monthly, typicallt 40 hours a week. If they have to attend a wedding/ first communion, etc event, that'd be extra. If you are on a summer contract, you typically work evenings or afternoons and evenings and you get paid by the day or by week. Cx

Hi Steve , i often go to Spain . If say there are 3 of us at lunch time and we spend say 44 euros I’d leave 50 if it was good , if it was say 72 for the evening meal and again lovey food a good atmosphere then I’d leave 80. Drinks that say add up to 8.50 then I’d leave 10 , apparently I’ve been informed that my tips are generous . I I’d do the same in the UK. At times I’ve been a good customer at a place , the bill meant that my change was about 8 euros , I waited for my change so I could leave the tip and say thanks . After 10 mins the waiter came over and asked me if I wanted my change … then I was a little angry because he assumed I was leaving it . Also I once left a huge tip , he didn’t look at it but simply poured it into a big container.. I then started to eat elsewhere.. sometimes the quieter, around the corner places are much better .. sometimes the tiny establishments are great .

In fact, it could be said you are at the opposite end of the spectrum to those that never tip.....Well done Peter. Hope you continue to enjoy your Spanish visits and of course its food. Steve.
