I just received 5 mesh back 59fifty for summer wear. 3 of which fit great, 2 are small enough they are almost unwearable. I'm gonna stretch them, but the size out of the are very diffrent. Also one of them has a crown that is very deep. Deep enough I'm returning it. My "on field lids" are like this also. Your final thoughts were spot on.
@JTrientaYOcho
@JTrientaYOcho 5 жыл бұрын
I feel like the ones made in China are of stiffer material. I prefer the softer feel of the USA made ones. The crown on the USA’s seems to wear in better as well. I’m glad I got almost all of the on field hats while they were only made in the US. I miss the days when you could walk into a lids and get an on field and you knew you were getting a high quality made in USA cap. Plus, I hate that NE added their logo to the side of the on fields. I have removed the logo on a couple of the onfields I didn’t have before they made the switch.

I've been buying New Era hats since about '91, before the MLB logo was added to the back of the cap. I remember thinking how odd it looked at the time, but eventually warmed to the idea. These latest hats from '17 with the corporate logo on the temple, however, make purchasing them a nonstarter. If New Era wants me to advertise their products, we can negotiate contractual terms. Until then I'll keep searching eBay for wool caps made in the USA. NO to China. NO to poly. NO to free corporate billboards.
@JTrientaYOcho
@JTrientaYOcho 5 жыл бұрын
Selanne93 I hear you, I don’t like being a walking billboard for NE. I have not bought many of the recent onfields in the last couple of years because most of them are made in China and have returned quite a few because I don’t like the quality of the Chinese hats. MLB shouldn’t have any corporate logos on the hats. Less is more.

That is a really good observation, and as soon as I read it, I recognized that in a few of my caps. I've got an Indians on-field made in the US, and it definitely has a softer, "lived-in" feel right off the shelf. Meanwhile I just wore a wool Braves cap today, made in Bangladesh, and it does feel a little stiffer. Thanks.

Hi Dre, thanks for your content and videos on the 5950 caps, they have been helpful for me in getting a better fit for my caps. I'd like to provide a feedback regarding the comparison between US and China made caps. I own 2 LA Dodgers 5950 caps, one made in China and the other in the US. Surprisingly, I find the Chinese made cap to be superior in terms of quality, construction, and overall shape. Unfortunately the US made cap has stitching errors, although it has more comfortable cotton feel and a slightly lower crown. The Chinese cap is well made, consistent, and has a low crown, and it is my choice. I've seen other Chinese made caps that also have good quality. Anyway, I understand there is considerable variation in hat shape and quality within NE, regardless of their country of origin. The ones from Bangladesh appear to be of bad quality and have the worst shape. Thank you for your content and keep up the good work!

Hi Dre a year ago I went to one of my nearest TJ Maxx and found a marlins hat with the M logo from 2012-2018 and to my surprise it was manufactured in the USA Derby NY for Sure since it had blue ink in the hidden parts and had the New Era logo on the side that means I got one manufactured between late 2016-2018 also it feels in hand different from the Haiti and China ones the front panels feels soft flexible yet structured and the top button has a noticeable click to it

Nice Royals hat amigo, I'm a KC native. I've grown pretty tired of New Era, their quality is so hit or miss and it's frustrating! I've moved on to Ebbet's Field Flannel for my caps. Have you ever had an experience purchasing a New Era hat that could be a knock off? I bought a 59fifty off Ebay brand new. Thanks again, your channel is so good!
@dreinthe616
@dreinthe616 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is definitely a lot of variation in NE caps - I'm a 7-1/2 but own a lot of 7-3/8 caps that fit well b/c they were made a little larger. But I've never purchased a cap on eBay, so I've not had the experience. Typically I avoid eBay for certain items, due to the reputation for counterfeit products there. Not sure about the price you got, but usually the mass retailers have a sale or free shipping about every week now, so unless you've found a unique cap on eBay I'd go more toward those other sites. BTW, Lids, Fanatics, Fans Edge and MLB Shop online sites are all run by Fanatics - go to my channel to see a video on that if you like. Thanks!

On Field outside of North Amerika has been Made in China forever. I always had to import the Made in USA, how's that for pricing 😄😂😪 (I collected low crown's which were even more difficult to find, often a model wasn't available in low crown version. In Europe they were't even available until a few years ago). As others have mentioned the material itself is different and is by far the biggest difference. The Chinese ones seem oily and collect lent instantly (and indeed the crown shape is more boxed on the normal ones)

The new era caps with the gray bills where the best true to size and didn’t shrink to much. The black nastys you have to keep stretching out and adjusting throughout the day

Great Video! I have some caps from China and Vietnam and personally, the Vietnam's origin is better. The Caps of China are really bad, the crown is awful, lower than other caps like USA o Vietnam origin. New Era needs to improve its quality. Greetings from MTY, MEX.

Hey, thanks for the comments - yes, even as a small sub-group, my caps from China are all over the place - a couple are quite good, and the others I’ve had to edit quite a bit to get them looking better.

Replica sneakers made in China have better quality control than buying direct from Nike and Adidas. It’s sad to say but a lot US made stuff is sometimes inferior to made overseas.

And the irony was that soon after I made this comparison video, New Era closed their last US site for making consumer caps... so only the players wear M-USA caps now.

When I published this video, there was still a US plant operating, but I did a video about the closing here - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iZ2baLN10ai2pqc.html Also, New Era caps are made and imported from many places - including vendors in China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Haiti, etc.
