If only the mark III had the feature the 70D has which is automatic focus, it's amazing and focuses well with low f stops. It even has touch screen where you can simply touch what you want it to focus on and it's really good with keeping track of what you're focusing on😊

Thanks for sharing this very informative video! I have owned a Mark2 since '09 and have been loving it since, although I was only focusing on photography back then. Now however, I'm in film school and seeing these video's where you explain the video functions and functionalities is just amazingly informative for me. So thank you and keep it up!

Thank you. I like to be pretty close to the subject. About 5 feet usually. The closer you are, the harder it is to focus if they move but it looks great. Also it depends on the shot size you are going for. With the 24-105 you have a lot of range.

The main reason for the upgrade would be the great audio options and the fixes to the video issues mark ii has. I would stick to mark ii if audio recording is not an issue for you.

Yea it is a huge difference if you have the IS on or off on the lens. Shooting with Prime lenses like the 50mm that has no IS creates a noticeable shake when handheld but I don't have that problem with the 24-105 IS.

Hey Jonathan. 24 is 24 frames per second. and 30 is 30 frames per second. It's basically a different look and feel. 30 is more television and 24 is more cinematic and film like. I mostly shoot 24 frames so I almost always choose that. And it creates smaller files since less frames per second. All theatrical films are shot at 24.
@Filmmakingmentor
@Filmmakingmentor 11 жыл бұрын
It's important to use IS based lenses such as 24-105 F4 canon lens. Also premiere cs6 and cc have great stabilizing filters. A combination of the two create great hand held shots. If you can use tripod or monopod, that's always best.

@Filmmakingmentor

Yes the motion blur comes into play in lower shutter. So when shooting at 30 frames at 30th shutter, you will notice a different look but it's acceptable to me in most cases. 60th shutter at 30 frames is the rule of thumb. I've just always gone along with it. That rule I learned in film 101 and seems to still be what do follow. But yes it does change the exposure so that's what I pay attention to the most.

A fairly comprehensive beginner's tutorial. One question that I need to ask... If you are on manual and have to select your shutter and aperture and ISO, don't you have to meter the scene? And if that is the case, wouldn't you then have to select your preferred aperture and then select the ISO to match your shutter/aperture settings? And what if you wanted to use auto-exposure? What adjustments/settings would be required? Everything else was pretty clear and straight forward. Thanks.

I shot video on the 5d Mk2 ffoer the first time the other night, it was in a nightclub and bar with pretty challenging lighting condition, I found it really hard to keep focus. What I found really frustrating was with the screen being so small, there are no guides to help you keep focus such as on the Black magic where there is a setting so you know that things are in focus. Just wondering if anyone can make any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. I realise that it's a great camera but maybe more where you can control your subjects and shooting conditions. Thanks a million.

Also if you can get into more specifics of depth of field on the Mark III, going into more detail on Exposure settings (Shutter / ISO and F Stop). I have the 24 - 105 kit lens. What I would like to see are how the the specific settings are made in the Mark iii Menu. .
