What level are you guys and how? This sounds pretty interesting, cause I did the math around the 5-7th levels and I just don't see how you can match a fighter or monk in damage. Cause they can do consistent 10-30 damage with an average of 20 without even using their abilities. And I guess you can do similar things with spells, but only for a few rounds or maybe one combat from what I figured. I just don't see how you can keep doing that for 10-20 rounds without a long rest and I'm interested to know ^,^ it does sound fun!

July Kimono It really depends on how many encounters your DM runs on a average day. If it’s 6-8 then you really need that martials/warlock consistent damage. If you run 1-3 big fights then generally Clerics can do excellent damage with weapon/cantrip plus Spiritual Weapon/Spirit Guardians. Tempest in particular can drop their max damage AOE once per short rest doing a lot of damage, though they are limited by their spell list.

"Not that kind of Cleric." Reminds me of one of our players for our weekly game. We've got a gnome Evoker. He knows nothing but how to HURT things to the point that he's hesitant to copy a spell from a scroll into his spellbook because it doesn't cause damage. I'm not even kidding. Yes his collateral is high, up to and including accidentally setting off an artifact of destruction with a fireball and nuking an entire town as a result. Yes I'm serious. "Hey, do you have a Mending cantrip to fix up your battered robe?" He's not that kind of wizard. "How about Prestidigitation to clean all that literal shit off you after a sewer crawl?" He's not that kind of wizard. "We need to escape and are backed up to a cliff! You got Feather Fall prepared?" He doesn't even have it in the spellbook. "Holy crap monsters!" WAAAABOOOOMMMMMM! 'What monsters?' In other words we have a midget Megumin with a curly mustache who rides an ostrich.

I would say that Ritual Caster makes a great feat for the Healer cleric as well, all for one spell. Find Familiar. You take an owl with the 60' fly speed and fly by attack, and cast your touch based healing spells through them. It gives you much more flexibility when it comes to healing that barbarian that just charged headlong into a 1 v 20 encounter, without having to put your potentially squishy self up there next to them. Heck, FF is one of the major reasons I went pact of the tome instead of pact of the chains for my life cleric/ celestial warlock. Heals at range are tough to beat. Thinking about either heavy armor master or combat caster for this build, since they're more of a controller with a couple heal spells.

Next time simply chain yourself to that barbarians back and let it carry you around. They get enough movement speed that even with a 1/2 penalty they do perfectly fine, and you can carry them too during your turn with half movement, making you both a 2-headed death machine that can keep healing itself.

Use Magic Initiate (Wizard) to get some extra cantrips and Find Familiar. The fact that you can use Touch range spells through your familiar is really useful when overseeing a fight, and a Cleric or even Druid could use those familiars to exact more healing without necessarily going up to the intended recipient.

Feats can do way cooler stuff than that for a Cleric. Mage Slayer: Because our Gods don't care about your Anti-Magic Field. Martial Adept: the Bard won't look so cool when you knock away his fancy sword. Mounted Combatant: You're a representative of the Gods. Lead your people atop a noble steed! Keen Mind: The Lord told me you didn't pay your tithe three weeks ago. Spell Sniper: Burn heretics in Holy Light from twice as far away! Weapon Master: Weapons are cool, but Protection Fighting Style will make you the ultimate Life Cleric. Observant: You're the only Class (minus edgy Tomelocks) that can learn Guidance. It's a potential +9 to Perception Checks. Delicious, like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

My favorite tool on Dnd Beyond is sorta 2-3 tools that all play toghter. I love that Campaign(s) allows me to share my purchase content with the group (I know you need a master sub) so they can build their character on Dnd beyond without having to worry about getting say Xanathar's guide for Arcane Archer, Ebonron Last War for Kalishtar or any of the other books for backgrounds. One new player in the campaign said that the Character builder/manager is amazing since you don't have to worry about stuff like Proficiency, saving throw, weapon damage etc. I have to agree since I didn't know Spells like Bane and False life automatically was added to my Grave Cleric spell list without counting towards max. And finally the feature who saved me a lot of hours when I wrote my backstory was the ability to look up all Elf information on the Elf Race page instead of having to remeber which book, page etc the information of Elfs are found. I do however wish Subrace like Moon and Sun elf was listed on the page so I didn't have to pull information about Moon Elf from the Wiki/SRPG since the skin, hair and eye color conflict a little between those 2.

I think magic initiate (wizard or sorcerer) would be a good option as well for battle clerics. Take booming blade and whatever other cantrip you want. At 8th level, some clerics get a d8 bonus to their melee attacks so add booming blade and if you're a Dwarf with a warhammer that's 3d8 damage with a cantrip and more if they move, coupled with warcaster and they'll take that extra damage when they move. You also get to cast one first level spell which could be defensive options such as shield or absorb elements or you can get find familiar and cast touch spells through it.

I just took magic initiate for my life cleric, giving her find familiar as well as booming blade to improve both healing and melee combat. Now she can cure wounds at range with her owl, and booming blade combines well with divine strike to make melee attacks much more viable - especially if the familiar uses help to give me advantage.

You neglected to mention the Observant feat. It's a feat that lets you get +1 Wisdom (there aren't many of those), which is wonderful if your Wisdom is currently at an odd number. Also, if you went the caster route and put Wisdom as your main stat, and especially if you took the Perception skill (or got it automatically for being an Elf), then getting +5 to passive perception, when you probably already had the highest passive perception in your party is a wonderful boost. My variant human Cleric started off with the Observant Feat and 21 passive perception.

A good feat for any melee combatant with only 1 attacks: magic initiate (wizard) for Green Flame Blade and Booming Blade. Along with divine strike can get you up to a very respectable +5d8 on your one melee attack and extra damage to another target or exerting control on the main target. That's pretty respectable damage in melee for a full caster who isn't a warlock or bladesinger! And you can still use healing word or spiritual weapon along with it. Couple with spirit guardians for extra rub-ins. Respect the melee cleric, they're not to be trifled with. Beats most other dedicated casters in melee except specialized valor bards, bladesingers and bladelocks.

I'm playing a light cleric in one game and he knows 5 languages at this point. I'm looking at grabbing linguist for a few more as well, possibly keen mind at 12th. But with 8th coming up I am looking hard at Observant, being more away of things around me could lead to me spotting something crucial before things start to happen, plus that boost to investigation seems perfect for a scholar type of cleric with a solid intelligence its almost like picking up an extra skill. Im thinking 8th observant, 12th linguist, 16th keen mind. I may not have as many spells but having the ability to understand up to 8 languages and rad peoples lips could be interesting and beneficial. Plus it plays up into being observant and having a strong sense of direction I will know exactly where I am.

[My Opinion] Racial Feats that would be Ideal: Flames of Phlegethos - Tiefling; Now while Tiefling's are Charisma Based while Clerics are Wisdom based, with FoP, when you roll fire damage for a spell you cast, you can reroll any roll of 1 on the fire damage dice. Also, whenever you cast a spell that deals Fire Damage, you can wreathe yourself in flames until the end of your next turn. The flames don't harm you or your possessions. The flames shed Bright Light 30' & Dim Light 30' beyond that. More over, while you are "Flame On", any creature within 5' of you that hits you with a melee attack takes 1d4 damage. Fire Spells also extend out to the Tiefling (Standard, Mephistopheles, Zariel, Hellfire Variant) spells that deal fire [which some do], but also the Cleric Spells that deal Fire Damage are: (Flame Strike, Fire Storm). Not to mention, the Domains that give out Fire Damage Spells are Light Domain, Forge Domain, City Domain [UA, though only Heat Metal], Zeal Domain, & Arcana Domain [Arcana Domain is tied to the Wizard's Spell List, so you're able to pick up some Fire Damaging Spells that way]. - Durable: When you roll a Hit Die to regain HP, the minimum number of Hit Points you can regain from the roll equals x2 your Con Mod (min 2). So, since Cleric's HD is 1d8, the minimum you can regain from the roll would be twice your Con Mod, which if you're fortunate to have at a +4 Con Mod, the minimum you would heal from the HD (before adding your Con Mod) would be 8. Even if you don't have a +4 Con Mod, but a +3, the minimum you can (essentially) roll on the d8 is a 6 + Con Mod. So whenever you roll HD to regain HP you're looking at regaining 9+ HP per HD (+3 Con Mod) or 12 HP (+4 Con Mod). - Magic Initiate: You gain 2 additional Cantrip's & 1 1st-level Spell that doesn't count against your Cantrip's known or the number of Spells you can have prepared. - War Caster: You gain Adv on Con ST to maintain Concentration; You can perform Somatic Components of Spells even when you have weapons or a shield in one or both of your hands; Able to cast a 1 Action Spell as a Reaction to getting an opportunity attack against an Opponent instead of hitting with a Melee Attack. - Crossbow Expert [Suggested if you plan on taking War Caster]: Even if you don't choose to continue to your a Light Crossbow [Simple (Ranged) Weapon] I would still suggest picking this if you pick up War Caster because Being within 5' of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your Ranged Attack Rolls. So, getting an Opportunity Attack & choosing to cast a Spell instead of attacking with a Melee Attack, you won't have to roll with disadvantage on the Attack Rolls [if the spell is a Ranged Spell Attack]. - Tough: Who wouldn't like getting additional HP when you level up. Plus stacks with Races that gain additional HP per Level Up.

She will have 20 ch (once I get the actor feat), 15 con, 14 wis, 14 dex, 12 int and 11 strength. Feats I'm thinking of are; Gourmond (for er flavour), Polearm Master (she weilds a quarterstaff), Warcaster, Magic Initiate, tough or possibly an invocation as my DM has said I could get invocations as feats when appropriate. I will have Subtle and Twin metas, then I'll be going into Quicken with Voice of the Chainmaster and Mask of Many Faces.

In current 5E rules the only thing you really need is Healing Word, as many as you can get, as you really only need to keep someone above 0 life and healing someone that just dropped will do that just fine and quickly (which is especially good if these people have high AC and can avoid dropping instantly again, but even then they can just run away with their low life if you cant survive the onslaught). Combo with Healing Spirit and its just OP (as every person can move in and out of it every turn and snack the healing, its just way too powerful). Against super late game enemies with insane amount of attacks per turn, not getting hit at all is of course the better solution.

Off topic in regards to clerics, but I'm about to pick my 8th level rogue feat or ASI and I can't quite decide. I would appreciate some feedback from people to consider. Keep in mind that UA is allowed. I'm gonna describe my build so far and also provide some thoughts about the feats I'm considering. Things are about to get lengthy, but you can likely just skip most of the notes I make about the feats I'm considering and just jump straight to the one you would recommend me: *The Build:* 8th level swashbuckler "surface" drow (don't worry about sunlight sensitivity) with 2 levels in Hexblade. Primary combat style revolves surrounding himself darkness and hitting people with +3 cursed flame-tongue weapon further empowered by booming blade or green-flame blade. If darkness/devil's sight can't be relied on for advantage, he instead uses fairy fire (14 charisma due to bad rolls so my spell DC isn't too great) or pairs hex with a dex based barbarian shield master who likes to shove people prone. = Options = (these are more or less written in order of how much I consider picking them or by how well they tie in to speaking about the next entry on the list) *ASI:* With this I can finally max out my Dex from 18 to 20. Main reason why I wouldn't do that is because I'm eyeing both the quick fingered feat and the elven accuracy feat. I could have both these feats AND 20 dexterity by my 12th level in rogue. Getting to 20 dex now basically means forfeiting any feat that would give me a +1 to my Dex such as quick fingered. *Elven Accuracy:* With so many ways for me to gain advantage, it seems af if I could benefit a lot more from that extra d20 to assure a hit rather than a mere +1 to my attack/damage roll. The DM also has table he runs on whenever anyone rolls a 20 (or a 1) As mentioned above, I can pair Elven Accuracy with another feat like Quick Fingered to get 20 Dexterity pretty soon anyway. *Quick Fingered (UA):* It's a small thing I find appealing about this feat. I want to cast darkness on a needle and then hide that needle on a person as a bonus action. I dunno, it just seems like fun. The fact that it can be paired with Elven Acuracy to get me 20 dexterity is a significant plus. The other feats (UA included) that grant a +1 to Dex don't really seem worthwhile. I already have expertise in stealth. Acrobatics is a good skill but the bonus benefit of ignoring difficult terrain as a bonus action (IF I beat a DC) is something I can acheive anyway with cunning action dash. Last alternative is the thief's tools feat, but the entire party is already proficient in that and the campaign doesn't involve a lot of lock or traps. *Actor:* Elven Accuracy can also be paired with Actor to get my charisma from 14 to 16. Additionally, it pairs very well with my Mask of Many Faces invocation. Only downside is that I'm unsure how many opportunities I'll have for infiltration at this level. His backstory does nonetheless point towards a bit of GoT intrigue in the underdark where it might come in handy. I already have expertise in all social skills with the exception of intimidation, but including insight. *Skulker:* While my DM doesn't care about dim light posing disadvantage on perception checks, he has started making note of when an area is dimly lit much to the happiness of our shadow monk. Being able to hide without cover as bonus is awfully appealing. As mentioned earlier, rolling a 20 or a 1 on an attack roll is high risk/high reward in this campaign so reliable access to advantage, especially as a rogue, is a priority. Sadly, my cursed flame-tongue weapon compels me to use only it or suffer disadvantage (AKA often no sneak attack), so I rarely use ranged weapons which is otherwise a great combo with the Skulker feat. *Martial Adept:* This is something I've considered in order to do sneak attack damage outside my turn. If get riposte, I can do exactly that. Granted, I have both the tools and the incentive to not suffer any attacks against me at all and when it happens, I also have options for my reaction such as Uncanny Dodge or, when I'm about to face multiple attack in the same round, the Shield spell. Still, there are also options like Feinting attack that at least once per rest grants me advantage on a an attack roll as a bonus action. *Drow High Magic:* Even if we have a few people who can cast Detect Magic already, being able to do it at will as an action instead of a 10 minute ritual seems awfully appealing. Levitate also seems like it can be used in many creative ways both to disable melee foes and enable vertical exploration. Downside for the former is that my spell DC isn't too great. This also applies to why I won't benefit much from dispel magic either. *War Caster/Resilient:* Even though I'm a Gish build and tend to lose concentration on spells like fairy fire and hex a lot, I usually prefer Resilient especially given I already have a Ruby of the War Mage to help me out with spell components. Resilient would also grant extra protection against more AoE spells which is good considering AoE spells are one of the few things that can likely affect me when I'm hiding in my darkness spell. What speaks against Resilient is the fact that it wouldn't improve my Con modifier. What speaks for War Caster is occasionally being able to cast booming blame on my opportunity attacks. I like to get up in the face of enemy spell casters blocking their line of sight with my Darkness spell. If I can punish them for moving with DOUBLE booming blade that seems awfully appealing. *Mage Slayer:* Again, I like to get up in the faces of enemy spellcasters assuming I can keep up my Darkness spell. We recently finished an arc where the prime enemy was a full party of different spellcasters so it possible we'll be facing fewer of those now, but that's meta speculation. Once again, the chance to do sneak attack damage with my reaction seems awfully appealing. *Magic Initiate:* I cannot stress this enough. Reliable access to advantage is muy importante. As such, going wizard initiate just to gain Find Familiar is something I consider. I'm just unlikely to have a good story reason for why I would be dabbling specifically wizard magic. Going more Warlock initiate would mean losing out on find familiar, but possibly getting an extra "spell slot" to cast Hex and, more importantly, grant me access to Eldritch Blast and enabling me at least some decent damage output against flying enemies without needing to make a weapon attack and thus not conflicting with my cursed flame-tongue weapon.

Love the concept/service of DnD beyond but hat the fact that if you bought physical books (which I love to have) you still need to but their content for full price (they can give you 25% discount but still..). So even though I could provide receipts and proof of ownership and gave them a suggestion on how I can register my books with their unique coding so it's not used again by another party. They still said no. So I'd love to see some solutions like that to both help the players whom love to have the actual books at the same time we protect DnD beyond from scams. Even suggested/bartered for 50% discount that would be acceptable for me with proof of ownership of my books (that I bought from bookdepository.com)... I rolled a 1. So it's disappointing to see that they're not open to flexible solutions to this problem.
