I am very happy about our 3kW power plant, which gives average 12 units per day. However the frequent power cuts cause severe drop in production and might go below 4units. Monthly fixed charges used to be Rs 100 but these months they have raised it to 160 per month. Most months the generation and consumption matches so we pay nothing for the consumed units. I think in the last year the maximum bill was Rs 450 including fixed charges. Before we had installed this our bi-monthly bills used to be around 4000-6000, with a maximum of 12000, when we have to run AC some days. What I like most is that when the generation is low, our consumption also goes low, and when it is very sunny and hot, we can run AC, the generation also would be high.

kSEB is trying to change net metering system to gross metering system for which application has submitted to regulatory commission. If net metering system is discontinued, it may adversely affect us. So take up with regulatory commission for continuing present system.

A sincere presentation indeed. Kseb will be adopting gross metering for solar power production in HH,as per GOI guidelines and in latest Kerala budget,Special fees is charged fir roof top solar production consumers.The tariff structure on roof top solar produced power is given much lesser rate than what is charged for the drawn power from KSEB.Ultimately KSEB is exploiting the Roof top solar consumers with higher fixed charges,delayed payments on grid power supplied at very low rates,and in future billings as per GOI guidelines,full amount will have to be paid to KSEB on consumption. Thus, the higher initial capital investment amount with a limited 5 year life of the solar panel cells yield,frequent cleaning requirements,AMC charges for upkeep etc along with exploitation by KSEB, makes the solar rooftop option unattractive in kerala. What is the fate of the newly declared GOI PM's roof top solar scheme,is yet to he seen!.

Request everyone to take the current soura Solar system from KSEB with subsidy. I paid 4 Lakhs for 6.88 Kw system including installation and am able to save bills of RS 50k a year, plus able to use 30% more electricity. Use of kettle/ rice cookers / kitchen appliances and cooktops would ensure better ROI

Please don't stand on solar panels. Even if you say it is on the support edges it will make micro cracks which will lead to problems in future. Panel manufacturers also reject the warranty for the same.

I have purchased a Solar Lantern throguh ANERT with Subsidy in year 2000 with 10 years warranty. For the first 5-6 years it has given light for 2.5 hours per day. Later its battery not getting charged. Panel was of TATA mae. Taken to authorised service centre of ANERT many times. Each time they retuned the lantern and panel after 2-3 months. By the time the output time was reduced to half an hour. Even the service centre person told me to purchase an eliminator from them as the sunlight at my house top would not be sufficient to charge the lantern. I am not a technical person in the field. So enquired about the lantern to some private firms dealing with Solar lantern and panels. After checking the lantern and panel, they told me that the capacity of panel to charge battery of the lantern was reduced too much and it could not charge the battery anymore. By the time the gurantee period was over. Hence I have to purchane another new solar panel for the lantern. Hence, it can be presumed that maximum efficient life of solar panels would be about 6 years and may not exceed 10 years.
