5th Wheel Survives 60+ MPH Wind Gust But The Rain Still Came In While Camped at Deserted Campground

With 60+ mph wind gusts pushing rain through our 5th wheel windows and a fear that our 5th wheel could rollover if the wind gust got any stronger. I was definitely ready for wind and rain to STOP!!! Of course, my hero, Scottie assured me that the trail was heavy enough and would not tip over, lol!
A few day prior to the spring storm hitting us, we headed over to Sportsman campground and took a look at the years of water loss in this once vibrant lake. Lake Walker just outside of Hawthorne, NV has one paid campground and two abandoned campgrounds with ruminants of old campsites to explore. The only information I could find is that the two abandoned campgrounds were being returned to dispersed camping through BLM. At the time of this posting we contacted the local BLM office to get more information on the to dispersed camping areas but our email was returned as "undeliverable" and phone numbers I found lead to a dead end.

Maybe you could get some of that magnetic sign material that they use on the side of cars and place it over where the water is getting pushed back in, probably it'll never happen again anyway. Great to have a deserted campground with a lake view Never did hear from you about crabbing on the Oregon coast but I have a Dr appointment in Salt Lake on the 17th left today be back soon but don't have a date yet depends on Dr's I had brain surgery and have to do yearly scans and such Peace

One time we were camping in our RV at Ocean Shores, WA during a storm. The wind was blowing the rain sideways like in your video. We had previously cleaned the windows and frames with a soapy detergent. Soap bubbles were forming in the window frames and breaking free, floating around the RV. It was hilarious. Our dogs were trying to catch them in their mouths. Pure mayhem!

@@DestinationOpenRoad The highest winds I've ever experienced had 50mph gusts and it was no joke. I can't even imagine 60mph! I think Terri's comment about being on the road with your rig handling the wind speeds at 60mph was a good example. If anyone ever questions just how big a deal this was, they can either sit and spin or stick their head out of the window as they"re speeding down the road.

I used to come from the Bay Area to Schurz NV. just north of where your camping here to get my annual stash of Fireworks to take up to the beach in Crescent City CA. for the 4th of July....Little bit north of Schurz you can often see military jets doing bomb training exercises as there is a training base somewhere out there....Travel safe, stay well....

Hi Terry and Scott… Tim and my puppy Jill here I was camped right next to Becks and actually had a dinner with her and another nomad named Dexter and a van with a raise top. You guys messages came through before I got there when I left, I saw where you guys were camped, I am in Oregon now. Hopefully you guys are closer to Washington state anyway call video. Yeah that’s a neat place. I’m gonna stop there on my way back down in November South Beach. I love it there but anyway, you guys travel safe and look forward to the next video… :-)

I wonder if you could make your own little plugs for those vents in bad weather ? Small pieces of a sponge or something rubbery even small pieces of Flex tape over the holes on the outside then just peel them off when the storm has passed ?

how about attaching a small piece of rubber to the outside but only on one side so that water can still flow out from the inside but when the wind would hit it from the outside the rubber would seal against the window blocking the water from coming in. Just a thought lol

We had a storm like you went thru. We put our slides in just in time. So from now on when we see a bad one coming we always bring our slides in so that the slide toppers aren’t damaged. Did you take your slides in?

I pet sit to make money for my van and my Amazon habit and I have about six Chihuahuas that I pet sit for and they are the silliest most stubborn one minded critters I have but I love them all they’re mixed with so many I have two that are from Nevada that the my clients went out and got at 8 weeks they were $4500 each🐾😇🐕🐶

Walker lake is north of Hawthorne NV. The camping is about 10 miles out of town. Not sure what the GPS is.

Just walk away she will follow you if she thinks you are the alpha. If not, you have some work to be done! You need to show her who is boss. That may mean a swap on her back side to show your dislike.
