Dude, that was really helpful. Not many people, if any, are talking about these strategies. Yes, they are advanced, but there is an audience for these kind of videos. 110% I want to learn more advanced strategies.

Really interesting point about the re-exposure effect, Mario! Here's a tip on how YOU (Mario) can improve this video: in listical format videos, like this one, when introducing your next topic/point/tip, don't reveal the tip right away. For example, don't say "place an ad every minute in order to increase RPM". In fact, as soon as I heard that, I was thinking of clicking off the video because I've heard that advice before. On the other hand, if I had NEVER heard that advice before, I probably would have been extremely sceptical of it, because I haven't been introduced to the logic of it. I wouldn't have known that KZfaq will delete any of the disruptive user-placed ads that result in significant retention drops. Thus, I probably would have questioned your credibility and left the video. Instead I'd recommend introducing your next piece of advice by saying: - "Tip #1: What times in the video should we be placing our ads in order to maximise RPM?" (This makes the user recognise a gap in their knowledge, that they become motivated to fill) - "Well, I've conducted dozens of experiments on this, across videos of many niches, comparing ads placed every second, every 30 seconds, every minute [you can fill in the rest]" (this establishes credibility) - "What I realised is that the way a VAST majority of people place their ads is wrong" (make them doubt their existing assumptions, just in case they were thinking "oh I know what he's about to say") - "and this results in KZfaqrs leaving thousands of $ of wasted revenue on the table." (Leverage loss aversion bias) - "Most people think that it's best to just let KZfaq place the ads automatically. And in theory, this sounds great, but I've found an EVEN more effective method. And no, it's not just placing the ads in the highest tension moments." (Identify the common misconceptions) - "In fact, the best way to place ads is every minute. Sounds crazy, right? Won't people just click off the video if you place so many ads?" (Creating a new knowledge gap based on another common misconception) - "well no, because youtube is smarter than that. Even if you placed an ad EVERY SECOND, it wouldn't be a problem because KZfaq will be able to determine which ads are causing retention drops, and will delete those disruptive ads automatically. Then you're left with the remaining ads that are least disruptive, getting you the most profit." (Fill the knowledge gap) - "So why wouldn't placing an ad every second be better?" (Another knowledge gap) - "Well because the data shows that it's not any more effective to place an ad every second than every minute, so don't bother wasting your time." Hope that helped! Although I'm sure you already knew that tip and had a strategic reason for not using it. Also, leverage your extensive credibility early on!! Make us trust you. I only trust you because I know your credentials from X. If I had never heard of you, I probably wouldn't trust tyou enough to watch.

Love the fact that you're taking your time to hold me accountable for my own advice! You are correct. Revealing the tip right away leaves too much room for people making an early judgement call. In fact, it's better to highlight essential information and drive curiosity through a slightly vaguer statement such as in some of the examples you've been giving. So far, my scripts haven't been optimized at all; this is a great call-to-action that more effort should be put towards following best practises myself. From myself to you; my main priority has been to get these videos out rather than optimizing them according to the guidelines. So the strategic reason was simply to get the content out moreso than to optimize for reach; which could also be seen as a poor excuse to not put effort into optimization. You are right with the credibility; I've doing a very poor job establishing credibility early on in these videos. I genuinely appreciate the effort you've put in this comment!

I have been thinking a lot lately about this idea of using focus groups for KZfaq videos. This way you can also get access to facial expressions to get more data. Maybe something interesting for your research company?

We've actually found a program that allows us to do this; however, we just haven't played around with it just yet. The goal of the research company is to put profits and revenue towards these things; I believe there's a lot of insights to be gained beyond knowing which video may perform better.
