I put butter on one side and mayonnaise on the other so each slice has mayonnaise on the inside with the cheese and butter on the outside trick my dad taught me was on low and you only put the slice that's on top when you go to flip it and you know when it's ready to be flipped and it's fully heated all the way through when the cheese starts to melt that way the top piece will stick to the trees when you flip it so you don't lose the top bread it doesn't slide all over the place or I should say the pan LOL And since the cheese is melted and the pan is nice and warm the other side grills much quickly this is my top secret to the best grilled cheese I've ever had man couldn't cook much but there was a couple things he cooked extremely well❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I love a good grilled cheese, but after some experimenting, i found a great way to upgrade the butter basically you melt some butter in the microwave then you add in some garlic powder or just some minced garlic and then slather it on your toast and boom you have quick and easy garlic bread for a grilled cheese

I prefer to put a v light smear of Mayo on the bread and then add it to a pan with some slightly browned butter. Adds some nuttiness and a lot of depth to the flavor profile.

I do agree with using butter and not mayonnaise. As we all know, mayonnaise is an instrument, not a condiment. Burnt cheese though is almost always good and changes the flavor of the cheese (sometimes even enhancing it).
