They may not have been the best and were probably seen as average by many, but their impact on their teams was only felt once they were no longer an option. Let's take a look at 6 such players.

Giroud offers a lot more for Arsenal during their banter era. Yes he didn't have what it takes to score 20+ league goals but his goals were vital. Winning 3 FA Cups with them and then winning the World Cup despite scoring none as a Chelsea player, Europa League and Champions League titles and Serie A with Milan. If only Arsenal had Giroud still then maybe they would have won 2 Premier League titles back to back. Granit Xhaka was hugely disrespected by Arsenal fans. Yes his lowest moment was that infamous wind up to their fans that lost his captaincy but his final season for them he played his best football for them. Joined Bayer Leverkusen and became Invincible. Arsenal never really replaced Xhaka. Kalvin Phillips made the poor move joining Manchester City and never looked like stepping up as a backup to Rodri. His loan spell at West Ham is one of the worst loan signing in the Premier League. Bielsa made Phillips as a good player but as soon Bielsa left he's a championship standard player just like the other Leeds players Bielsa made them over perform their abilities examples Bamford, Ayling and Cooper. Ander Herrera leaving Manchester United still pisses me off till this day. Not because of he bleed for the club, not because he was one of our best ever signing in the post Ferguson era bar Zlatan, because Woodward wasn't willing to match his wages and we got rid of our future captain for that waste of space McTominay. Him along with Pogba and Matic were our best midfielders in otherwise a poor Manchester United team. Imagine we kept him when Bruno Fernandes joined then our midfield would be a lot better instead of Bruno Fernandes and McFred. We got rid of a future Manchester United legend and captain for trash players like McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Mount. Roberto Firmino was that top class false 9 that can never replaced at Liverpool and Kai Havertz will never reached the heights Firmino achieved while playing as a false 9 for Arsenal.
