You can tell, Mike is a noodle pro... and I say this because I too am a noodle connoisseur..... you don't go out to eat noodles wearing WHITE...

BlackVenom Ash ... as you slurp noodles the sauce can spray... more visible on white.. Throw on a dark colored Tee and you're good to go.

Emily Giang ... I know Dan's wearing white.. that's the reason I called MIKE the noodle pro... only a novice comes to a noodle meal in white... (dan being the novice) ... Does that clarify my comment?

Bugger, Mike, you make me sssssoooo homesick for China! I lived in the mountains of south east Gansu province in my first year so I LIVED on Lanzhou lamain.....then the following 2 years in Baoji in Shaanxi. Those cold rice noodles ARE TO DIE FOR and again, every 2nd meal I found myself gravitating to them. Even the university I worked at there hand made them and they were awesome! Later I moved further south in Jiangxi/ Guangdong so they obviously mainly have rice rather than noodles with dishes, but I'd either try and get noodles or at least DongBei cuisine whenever I could. I'm now home in Australia after living there for 10 years, so thank you for "taking me back to China" with your vids!!!

I just wish I knew where to get access to so many of these neat dishes where I live (no where near good, diverse asian food) May have to find a way to cook some of these dishes on my own like the Tea Eggs.. which were delish. nummy!

He and Dan made a video on that. It's available on their channel, Double Chen. Basically they didn't agree with the direction that OTGW was going, and they left so that they could keep on making the kind of videos that they think are relevant and interesting. You should check Double Chen out, it's everything OTGW used to be. :)

没错,北方的凉皮和擀面皮都是用面粉做的,南方的类似食物通常用大米,这和农作物产地有关,西安不产大米,南方不产小麦。

Thanks for the information, it makes a big difference to have an example and what it's normally like. I'm in Australia and noodles although eaten are usually (usually) looked upon as a 'low quality junk food'. Like 'why bother when there's pasta' kind of food. The main one that's eaten is ramen and almost always comes in instant form but the cities have more variety. I'm glad to see variety and flavour amongst noodles.
@Misshowzat

***** And ONLY Melbourne CBD (in Vic). I'm aware how much you guys have that doesn't 'trickle down' but instant noodles, ask anyone, are seen that way. I'm not saying it's isn't sad but seeing the real thing, what it's called and how it's used is all some of us get. And no, it doesn't make it better if I 'just move to Melbourne' it makes it worse. Why? Because surprise there's cities in Vic outside Melbourne that don't get to share in the culture because of attitudes like yours.

IM DROOLING WHILE WATCHING THIS VID!!! :D also, I'm from lanzhou myself and just wanted to add that lanzhou la mian is more well known in a beef broth, kinda like the dao xiao mian in this vid as opposed to the zha jiang here. also, in lanzhou, the "la mian" is actually just called niu rou mian (beef noodles) because that's essentially all we have it in! also, we have many different thickness levels we can choose from. the most popular is called jiu ye I think along with er xi. great vid and love the channel mike :D happy new year from Canada!
