@@JJ-qc9ld ja, inderdaad. Ik wet het, maar andere talen hebben rare grammaticale regels ook. For example, French also uses two auxiliar verbs like dutch "hebben" and "zijn" in present perfect tense. Another example is Swedish, they have a very similar past tense with "de", but it has more exceptions and irregularities than Dutch. It's not easy to write perfectly, but a bit of patience is needed to learn a language. Dutch is beautiful and I won't give up. 😉

When one of my American friends was staying at my place, I only had the bake-off baguettes at home for the first morning. She didn't want anything else for her whole stay, because it was so good. I was, like, 'these are the cheapest (€0.40) there are, we have better bread...". She went back with almost 10 kg of different cheeses too. Will probably last her a whole year with how little cheese she eats, compared to my daily intake. Maybe an easy "ezelsbruggetje" for you would be: eggs = eieren (both start with an e) Onions = uien

Fun fact about the pre mixed vegetables: They're the exact amount for most recipes. If you're making for instance Pad Thai, there's a vegetable mix with the exact amount of Thai vegetables. So you don't waste anything.

But in the mean time you first need to do some research before going to make it. Particularly the laws regarding what foreign bodies are allowed in the production of food stuff. When Trump talked about opening the market for British stuff there to be a agreement over a trade agreement. For instance in the USofA it is allowed to have cockroaches in food to the tune of 1%. Chlorinated chicken is allowed and stuff like that...

The Chinese food is much much better. Also the fact that you can bring your kids to most restaurants. They realize that does are there further costumers. You have to go to high cuisine restaurants. There fish restaurants are also better then in the Netherlands. Special there crawfish, crab , shrimp and lobster. Danny’s has the best breakfast ever and hamburgers at small places are the best there are..

Depending on where you're from in the US, the variety of produce is so much better in the US than here in the NL. But the EU doesn't import much produce so most produce has seasonal availability. Currently, can't get kale or other winter greens right now. Pickles, popcorn, and Doritos are all so much better in the US. Anything Mexican, also better in the US. Also, coffee is better in the US (I moved from Oregon - so my coffee standards are high). Restaurants are way better in the US, like Joey said. This might be why your expat friends don't like Dutch food too much. It's at least 20% more expensive to eat out here (than the US) and for what you pay, the food is just average.

That is silly. Most of the time I buy brown eggs. I live in New England and grew up hearing a jingle that said "brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh'. Although, from what I later learned, that was not always the case. The color of the egg depends on the breed of chicken so it shouldn't matter what color the egg is, just where it comes from. If someone wants fresher eggs, they can pay the extra money and get them from a local farm (mine has brown eggs). It's hard to know how old eggs are from the store. They have a sell by date, but who knows when they were laid. During Easter stores tend to have more white eggs because people like to dye them and brown eggs don't take dye color well.

@@Brooksie603 You're absolutely right. It is silly hahaha We have a saying: wat de boer niet kent, eet hij niet. (What the farmer doesn't know, he doesn't eat.) I think that was the case here as well. They had probably never seen brown eggs for some reason and wanted to eat the things they were used to eating. It's strange, cause my uncle is Dutch, but he wasn't able to convince them that brown eggs are fine hahaha

This is a great video!!! I work at a grocery store in the Netherlands and I can guarantee you that everyday the old meats are transported back to a place where they can process it in an environmental way and every day we get new fresh meats from the butcher which is 'made' the day before! And the same thing is for the bread.

The amount of wasted bread I've seen... It's no wonder they tend to give a discount on fresh bread at the end of the day. I remember filling in for someone at an Aldi I hadn't been to before, and getting a bag of freshly baked off bread for one euro, and later getting a free appelflap, because they forgot to throw it out with the rest. My dinner that day consisted of a variety of bread.

What it comes down to is; if you want wholegrain bread, always get "volkoren". They're only allowed to call it that if it's actually wholegrain bread. Don't fall for the "Meergranen", or "Zaden en pitten" bread, because even though they've got all those healthy looking seeds and grains on them, there's no guarantee they're not just artificially darkened white bread.

The bread was such a disappointment when I was in the US. I mean, even the good bread over there is meh. And actually the bad bread is like less objectionable than the good ones, really. Re: cheese: there’s a reason Gouda is one of the most popular cheeses in the US. But the original is better.

I'm glad to hear some people take the Dutch language seriously. I've known people that live here for 15+ years and still don't speak a single word. Too bad cause it can be a beautiful language to learn, I know it's not the easiest one, but it is worth it. I also like this list, it's different than other standard lists! The reason why Dutch food is so simple/standard, is because the people themselves are like that. We are very direct, simply, neat and structured people (well at least most of us are) and that's how we like our food!

Very funny and True video again! I never buy the presliced cheese though. Slicing it yourself is much nicer. Try the wapenaer oud from Jumbo. Its a really flavourful cheese. Btw they also sell pretty nice wholegrain breed you cant freshly finish off in you own oven. Combined with the cheese its heaven 😁

I also dont have presliced anymore.. I have my big ol block of cheese and I grate it, make slices or cubes.. I think 900 gram lasts like 1,5/2 weeks because my bf and I love it so much xD

@@jennyl7422 I tend to buy less, because my daughter can't have cow milk, my son isn't a fan of goat cheese, and I shouldn't eat cheese at all... But yeah, one block of cheese is sliced, diced, and grated until nothing's left.

I realised how good dutch bread and cheese was when I moved to Tokyo for school. When I was in Tokyo I really just missed what was to me "normal bread" and also cheese. The cheese was very plastic and the bread tasted like sugary. Anyways the food in Japan is reaallyy good too however it really made me realise that bread is not the same everywhere as is cheese. And that I feel very lucky to enjoy it every day now i'm back ! Also love the vid!

Have you already tried 'graskaas'? It's from cows who lived in stables for the winter and came out of it in spring. Then the first time the eat grass again and give milk, they make 'graskaas' of it. It's melting on your tongue even more. It's best to buy it in spring, when it's really young and best by it on a market, it's even more fresh. You sometimes see it during the year, but that's fake and doesn't taste like the real one. I can really recommend you to try it. Btw I just found out about your Chanel today, but I love the way you talk in English and Dutch so I discribed. I love it when foreign people tell about living here. It makes me understand more of foreigners in the Netherlands. Because I love them (if they are good people off course).

Aint that the truth! I am from suriname and currently studying in the netherlands and belief me the Surinamese food here does not justify the real Surinamese guisine. If possible take a week or so food trip to Suriname, you won't be dissapointed. I also love the cheese that the netherlands has. It tastes so so sooo good. The Netherlands is known for their cheese! The cut veggies concept was wel thought of. The idea behind is was to help the citizens especially the ones who work all day and don't want to come home to cook meals for to long. So the pre cut veggie helps with cutting down the cooking time. Its a dearly loved idea. The fries are worth every penny.

You're not the only one who did the popcorning the baguette. I did that when I was a little kid. Something my grandma used to do was buy a unbaked baguette from the grocery store, bake it at home untill it's almost ready, get it out, put some butter and sugar on it, and bake it untill it was ready. It was really hot but super delicious.

Right now, I'm living abroad (not even in America, still in Europe) and me and my Dutch roommate are always talking about the patat speciaal and I am waiting for a kaassouflee when I get home. I brought my own mayonnaise and curry sauce so I could replicate the patat speciaal here. Also the bread here is terrible (mind you, still in Europe) and when I got home I bought bread and I brought it back with me and stuffed the whole freezer with it. Now I have almost run out, but I'm almost moving back again so it's fine 🙈 about the cheese... yes I agree. I am waiting for my cheese. I don't really eat cheese like I did at home because it's not the same. I miss the cheese 💔 This video was recommended to me and I love it! Your video is great and your Dutch is great too!
