I'm in my 30s and had a rough start. I've learned early on that life is not fair and took all my life to pull out of poverty, saving as much as I can to have funds to get out. Boy, was it hard, and understand why people resort to substance abuse and fall into depression. I had no enjoyment in my youth. Now that I am building stability, I need to balance saving, investing, and living life. When you start from nothing, normal things are a luxury.

Poverty can be a teacher. When you start making money, you will already know how to budget. Its a tool most people dont learn until much later in life. The thing you need to learn is how to invest. Read Common Sense Investing by Jack Bogle. It teaches a steady, low fee investment approach.

What you said I can relate to, in a way. It is a kind of burden to start off like you did, but it is also a blessing. You now know all these things you had to learn while being poor, you know what are absolute necessities and how to be frugal. I am grateful my family was not wealthy and had to start building my wealth from scratch, such start has more value, than any money you would ever earn or save. All I can add to this is - well done sir and keep up the good work as it will (and probably already is) pay off. Live life to the fullest my friend. :)

Thank you Nischa, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness in my late 20s and wasn’t able to work, had to leave education with 1 year left to go 😢 and was in debt. Over the last 3 years, I adjusted to my illness, worked really hard, retrained in a different field, opened my own business during lockdown, became debt free last year and have savings for a house deposit. Have been following you for the past 6 months and you’re information is a true blessing. X

I actually really appreciate this, especially the final point about timelines. I just turned 36 and I started watching this like "yeah i'm doing alright, and then as it went on it became "oh damn, I've got work to do. But actually, just a quick mindset shift of "OK how can I adapt this so that 40 looks like success to me", just helped me reframe this and still look at this as a really good starting point! Thank you!

Please also spend time and money on things you enjoy! Your 20s are about experiencing new things and exploring the world! Don't miss opportunities that come your way. As you get older, taking advantage of these things gets harder as you have more commitments and change gets more complicated. You're doing a great job financially and the first step is starting, so well done! :) Especially, after the restrictions of the past years due to the pandemic, young people like yourself have missed out on a lot of those possibilities. :)

What I love about your videos is the caveat that you add that it might not be the best thing for everyone - I really appreciate how you make it clear that this is 'what works for you' and you encourage us to think about it for ourselves and our circumstances. And yes, younger people seem a lot more sensible then our generation (I'm also 40). But I had fun in my 20s and travelled the world. So that was the sacrifice I made. Would I do it again. Yes. The point about corporations suddenly deciding to let you go hits the nail of the coffin.....be loyal to nobody but yourself....contracting long term is viable if you get to a certain level and have developed unique skills in blue chip companies...you will be in hot demand in the job market and by working on your strengths your value will compound and you will significantly outearn your peers...the extra revenue can than be reinvested in further self development...without the strain of relying on an organisation holding the purse strings...

I wish I knew all this when I started working in my teens. I would have opened a savings account back then. I only started saving seriously in my mid 30s.

There is something else more fundamental than this as many enter their 30s and that is having children - I know not everyone but this is a game changing, life changing and financial changing inflexion point in your life

Great video, I wish I learned about paying off credit cards and consumer debt in my 20’s 🤦‍♂️. I use travel rewards cards but I pay off those balances each month. This way I can save and invest more.

Hi Nischa! Love your videos! Only found your channel recently but love how you explain things simply while still being thorough. Are you looking for a video editor by chance? I'd love to edit your next few for free to show how I can help!

Great suggestions, especially the mortality fund, and especially in times like right now, with economy uncertainty, and high savings account interest rates, being 4-5%. So $10k would be generating an additional $400-500 a year of income, just a small $10k emergency fund, growing itself.

Hi Nischa, With career progression and typically in your industry do you ever fear the lack of work life balance? Also, not seeing life enough because of being too work orientated? They do say, it's not about the years in your life, but the life in your years. Would like to hear your point of view on this. Thanks! Great channel!
