6 months ago I had major hip surgery. This is a raw video of me recounting the past 6 months, and sharing some insight I've developed through recovery. Hopefully you find it inspiriting/encouraging. God is so faithful. No way I would have made it through this without HIM or my community.
Maybe I'll do another one at 1 year.
If you find yourself in need of any hip work go see Dr. Ferguson! www.taniafergurson.com
If you have other orthopedic needs: Music City Orthopedics and Sports Medicine: www.musiccityosm.com
Whether you have gone through a PAO for are just beginning the process, please visit our Facebook group "Hip PAO".

This is so helpful! Thank you for sharing. I’m 34 and just had this surgery 10 days ago. You’ve eased my mind just knowing that another active person had this and pushed through. ❤

I really needed this video. I'm 22 years old and I had PAO surgery exactly 2 months ago, and I already started physical teraphy and u know, it's SO frustrating sometimes when I have to do a movement and I cannot fully do it, but I started to focus on what I can do and less on what I can't do, and honestly like you said, "my hip, my story". This process is a really BIG thing, and now I know that this process get out the BEST version of ourselves, our encourage and brave version, bc it requires A LOT of mental strenght. I write this from México, and I'm very grateful with you for share your process with us and makes us less lonely.

Thank you very much. I’m 31 with three kids under 6 and you have definitely prepared me for what I have ahead in one months time. It has woke me up to a lot more than I hadn’t thought of, especially community and family friends support. I’m in NZ with no family support isolated some what on a farm. My husband is going to become superman as he is helping me and also the kids and also working full-time on the farm. I also am getting my other hip done 1yr post first hip surgery. Gonna be a mad couple years eh! Thank you thank you thank you. You are an inspiration! X

18 years old pretty much got the surgery a week ago and man they say it’s rare seeing someone like this discharge a day earlier, going out in public a lot (some medical people love it some don’t), and moving around like this after there first major surgery. I felt your pain and it’s only been a week. I’m a Athlete myself and it’s hard. Hey need to look at it’s going to better my future no more pain but a long road to recovery. It’s surprising to see they had you using crutches they have me using a walker.

Yes. It’s a tough recovery but you can do it! They wanted me to use a walker but I refused. Only wanted crutches. I felt more stable on them.

I’m not a pain med girl at all either. Ibuprofen and I’m good if it’s childbirth or any other type of pain I encounter. 😂 My daughter will be getting a PAO within the next month or two. She is only 15 and a sprinter which she is no longer able to do.😢 Your video was very helpful in knowing what to expect. Thanks for sharing. We don’t completely understanding why the Lord would give her a gift only to take it away temporarily-or why he didn’t bring this to our attention when she was an infant-but there are reasons beyond our understanding for sure. Trusting him in the process as well.🙏🏻

Funny enough, I'm 33 and just had a PAO 10 days ago. Thank you for your honest video. Things were different for me like no epidural (local anesthesia), 5 in scar, but my understanding is everything else was about the same. I wasnt able to do any lower body stuff for months before the surgery except in physical therapy with assistance. I am jealous that you had a bar to lift yourself after surgery. THAT was what i wanted but didn't get...i also have to use a granny walker and would love some crutches. Maybe next week at the post-op apt i can get some lol! Thank you for your story!

@@StaceeStrickland its going well, for the most part. I'm almost 12 post-op and I've only had 4 pt sessions. I feel like I'm so behind. I'm able to crutch around with 1, but my stamina is slowly building. I wake up aching, though it gets better with blood flow...i wonder if that's the new reality of being in my mid 30s 😆. I really want to be fully mobile, exercising, hiking, lifting, etc., but I'm not. This could be teaching me patience 🤣

Thank you for making this video God is so good and has helped me through all this as well! I was in the hospital for 3 nights. Surgery Tuesday, went home Friday. It was plenty of time for me. I think it depends on you and your healing. My surgeon was happy to let me stay longer if we both felt it was needed, but it wasn’t! Good luck!

Hi! I am so glad this video helped! That was my goal! I am back to 100% ROM and about 90% pain free currently. I expect a full recovery. The biggest piece of advice I could give is: allow yourself to heal. You will be tempted to push hard but don’t. Just rest and heal, especially those first few months! Let me know how surgery goes!
