A word of caution on ACX. Don’t expect to buy some recording equipment and software and expect to make $50 an hour. There is a high learning curve for performance, how to use your equipment, sound standards and editing. The hourly rate example is based on what’s called “per finished hour” or PFH, that refers to how long the audio book is after all sound engineering and editing is done…the finished product. For example, you agree to do an 8 hour long audio book for $50 PFH and get $400 when it’s finished, BUT it will take you nearly double the amount of time or more with editing and sound engineering to get to the finished 8 hour product when you are first starting out. So your actual pay is $25 an hour, not $50. It can be a grind as not as easy as it sounds.

Warehouse positions have no interview once you pass drug test and background test you go to a group orientation to learn about their culture, safety & your duties. You immediately got the job with no resume nor interview. I worked at the fulfillment warehouse for seasonal in Delaware.

Umm, no you can’t just buy a mic and be a voice actor. Voice actors are *actors* and audition just like camera and theatre actors. Voice actors get paid because they have taken courses on diction and clarity, breathing, and ACTING! The worst audio books I’ve heard and had to delete/return are read by the author-poor pronunciation, poor breathing technique, voices with upspeak or vocal fry or worse, the trailing off in breath at the end of the sentence making it unintelligible for the last three or four words… vocal actors are experienced real actors and it’s going to take you at least a few years to learn just the voice aspect, then there’s the software learning curve, editing the sound files and you have to have a zero dB basement-meaning, any background noise (or hum from a cheap mic) and your work will be worthless. It takes a booth, money, training, time and lots of learning curve.

I’ve known several people who have worked in various parts of Amazon, and all of them had horror stories. Little things like bringing a couple of empty OJ containers to work to pee in because you can’t take a break. One neighbor worked for six years at a warehouse, was sick, tried to call in sick and was essentially told come into work or you are terminated, she went in, had a few days where she didn’t make quota and was let go at the end of the week.

Sounds fishy. If she was there for 6 years it could have been that bad. I'm sure there was other issues

Considering the cost of gas you may pay Amazon than they pay you, you may not even break even for $18 dollars an hour. Gas costs so much more.

The worst is beating your car. Maintenance, repairs and unusual wear from extended hours on the road + tires will eat you alive. I did Doordash, and I loved it, but I won't continue to beT my car. ~$20.00 hourly boils down to about $12.00 BEFORE taxes, and NOT figuring in savings for a new car too soon. My mechanic (also a friend) and I crunched the numbers one night.

My son is a delivery driver and it’s an AWFUL job! They give 2 minutes per delivery which is impossible when you have to deliver to apartments. 3 stories carrying heavy boxes NO elevator and over 100 degrees! AI does their routes and had 2 apartment buildings 3 stories 35 delivers as just one stop one delivery so 2 minutes ! Ridiculous! And he has gotten called up in front of everyone by the boss and insulted. Bullies ! Terrible job and they have outside companies that rent U-Haul vehicles so nobody is held accountable for being degrading. Not allowed to take lunch or bathroom breaks ! If you don’t finish Before the time they give you then you won’t get a route the next day or two you are scheduled to work ! You just work 2 hours loading up other drivers vans plus they won’t give more than 4 work days! It’s no way to be able to pay bills. If a customer complains, you get no route the next one or two or three work days !

Great information. Very informative. I work for Amazon. I have been there for 6 and a half years. There is no interview, it is a group setting where they cover basic information. Yes you must bring your id. You have to have a working email address. At the time there was a drug test. Not sure if they still do drug screening. You are trained. Once trained, you must maintain a rate to keep your job.

flex, HAS to be an open position and NO you dont get to CHOOSE your own hours.. you get to CHOOSE from the AVAILABLE block hours, you can decide i want to work at 9AM if AMZ doesnt have blocks @ 9Am, in my 9 years exp they NEVER have blocks in the AM. 3-4AM yes, then usually 1pm and on. ACX submit your AUDITIONS (interview) if your voice sucks they are probably NOT going to use you. the warehouse jobs usually only post seasonally and ive worked warehouse twice and no interview.

I did amazon flex when I first got out of the army in 2020. It was a good little gig while going through college. Pretty easy, it will populate shifts for you to choose from every week, but you have to be quick because there are only so many, and people take them quick! The hours would be anywhere from 2-5 hours. Sometimes a little more. If you pick a shift that's 5 hours and finish in 4, you still get the full pay which is cool, but it almost always lasts the entire time it says. The more hours usually the better the pay. Sometimes I'd get paid 60-90 bucks an hour for 4 hour shifts, but you can usually only do one shift a day and there are never full 8 hour shifts, usually more like 2 hour shifts. I'd pick up a few shifts a week and make maybe an extra 400ish a month. Cons: it's OKAY. Doesn't pay amazing, not exactly reliable if there are no shifts available, you're pretty screwed. Have to use your personal car, so mileage, maintenance and gas add up. Pros: ability to pick from shifts available, so it's flexible. Pay can be good. Not long hours. Good alternative to a typical part time job, that usually wants you to work specific days and hours. Perfect for a side job, or while going through school if you don't have much time.

That’s called working for yourself. And all of those car expenses are deductible. You just need to keep track of your mileage from one place to the other and write it down. Also write down and keep any receipts for tolls and parking, etc. and then on your taxes, you can either subtract all the actual maintenance cost like oil changes and gas and, etc., or you can take the standard deduction for car stuff. So it sounds like you didn’t do that.

I have been playing tag with the Amazon warehouse employers and it's a joke. 2 days before training, after drug testing and background tests, passing both, I get an email stating the shift is no longer available, choose another, when I went to the site no shifts period. When one did finally show up (after a month), it was a 45-minute drive away.

I was in telemarketing. As you read and interact with people, you learn how to inflect your voice. All day long for 2 years, I read scripts to sell products. In interaction, you learn where you need to inflect your voice to keep to keep your customer on the phone. I worked for Amazon for 7 years. After Prime is our slow time, it picks up at the end of September.

I've just picked up my podcast bundle off of Facebook for $70.00. A set of Samson headphones for $35.00, audacity is free. I have a room off of my bathroom that's a small walking closet that I don't need it to be that. A perfect recording studio. My voice is rusty. I'm practicing with books and this cool sound maker I have! Total investment $105.00. I purchased these things with Plasma donations. Biolife.

For amazon kindle self publishing, unless they've changed it since I researched it years ago, you get 70% only if you sell the book for $2.99 or less, if it is above that you get 30%. That might have changed in the past few years, but there was criteria in the pricing to get the 70%.

I worked as an associate at a fulfillment warehouse and I never had to go through an interview but I did have to pee in a bottle, this a really good way to make an extra $300 a week if you need it. I did feel the drive out to the warehouse was little far though so I decided to quit because I also already had a day job that paid well and the gas I used for the week took a lot of what I was making so I didn't need the job but it was good change of pace from sitting all day doing IT work. I might do it again just to move around a little more.

The insurance companies are also "on" to these jobs and want their cut. You could be in a precarious position in the case of an accident if you don't have coverage that they now write for these types of jobs (at least in my area). Additionally, in our warehouse, you could get stuck with a 44 mile one way driving distance before even delivering a package. If you refuse to take that order, you won't be driving again. It's all dependent on whether you live in a populous east coast city or in the midwest where you have to drive longer distances OR if you get a rural route, which is particularly hard - closed gates, no cell service, no streetlights, hard to find addresses with bad routing. I think this could be okay in a suburban or city situation. Oh yeah, dangerous dogs. An amazon driver working out of my warehouse was killed last year by a homeowner's dog.

I imagine the voice acting would be 420 friendly since it's freelance. But you have to be able to read aloud really well and have some kind of acting ability. As someone who's been exploited by Uber for the past year, I'm looking to do something that doesn't involve driving my car. I'm hoping I can break into the voice acting, since I already have a lot of the equipment necessary to do it. As much as I love to drive my car, it's just not worth doing ride share anymore. Uber and Lyft probably won't be around too much longer if they keep up their ways.

Not for amazon, they will make a group interview at a hotel or something, show a video about work culture, do ice breakers, then do a drug test on the spot and seal it to be sent off to the labs. If you're positive, you won't hear back from them. You don't need a resume or interview, just your spit lol
