Thanks for watching, please comment below! I just wanted to add a couple things - I don't think that I showcased the creative/arts scene in Calgary enough in this video. I certainly think that Edmonton has more to offer in this area but I could have outlined more of the options that Calgary has in this area. It has a ton and I may feature some in another video. I also think that Edmonton might be better for post-secondary schools overall especially given the fact that the U of A is the best school in the province and one of the top research universities in the country. And I was on the fence about mentioning WEM, but I am personally a big fan of the place and in particular I think the World Waterpark gives Edmonton the advantage when talking about indoor attractions!

Having spent the last 40+ years in Calgary and moving to Edmonton last Sept, I personally have found Edmonton to be less aggressive, more welcoming and friendly, less costly, and overall happier. Calgary (and I think I'll always consider myself a Calgarian), is busier, more hectic, horrible traffic, and far noisier. I have no regrets leaving my hometown and moving to "enemy territory" (yes, I am and will always be a Flames fan).

Good analysis. Calgary has a more "white collar" vibe because oil and gas industry head offices (as well as upcoming solar and wind energy) are in Calgary. Edmonton is "blue collar" because the oil and gas workers and support industries live there for easier access to the rig jobs and Ft. McMurray in the north of the province. And yet, Edmonton also has government legislature workers and one of the largest universities in Canada, so go figure.

I've lived in both cities and this is a fair assessment. And I still prefer Edmonton. Maybe it's the coziness, which is a great way to describe this city

Edmonton has superior sporting facilities, superior sporting teams, better transit system because it goes underground through the downtown etc., absolutely beautiful river valley especially in the summer. And it will always be the capital city of Alberta.

Definitely agree about the arts scene, especially in regards to the music scene. There are and have been great bands from Calgary, but it just seems like there have been more long-standing and internationally recognized bands from Edmonton. Edmonton also has such great diversity in regards to music - there's guaranteed to be an artist doing almost any style or sub-genre you can think of.

Good one, being settled here for just 3 months now...I agree with you on most of the points...coming from Montreal I really felt yeg is really dead..but I was wrong...the city has its own charm...and yes .I made perfect decision ..as I'm planning to buy my first home and I'm in perfect place ..😂..good luck Calgary

As far as coziness goes, the better explanation is that Calgary is a vast, sprawling city that’s almost entirely residential, so everyone lives in their own isolated sleepy neighbourhoods. It’s not as easy to get downtown to Calgary unless you have a car, and nothing draws anyone to the downtown area (except the Zoo) since it’s mostly just office towers, whereas Edmonton is far more integrated, making it easily to get to downtown Edmonton from anywhere else to enjoy some shopping in the centre and maybe a few restaurants there. Edmonton feels like one unified city rather than a vast sea of disparate neighbourhoods as in Calgary. Now, supposedly, the LRT goes all the way to the U of A (and now, even to Southgate as I’ve just discovered), which makes Edmonton even more unified than the decades when I lived there. If it went to West Edmonton Mall, that would make it complete. It’s true, though, that Edmonton’s transit has always been scary, right back to my memories from high school in the early ’80s-a time when the Oilers and Eskimos reigned supreme in sports. Everything in Calgary is such a far drive from everywhere else, whether it’s Costco (South Central) or Chinook Centre (West) or T&T (Northeast), so it feels like you have to sit in a car for huge distances, though the freeways are fast and wide, which kind of makes up for it.

Nice, Video, I agree with just about everything but I'll add some other differences that I think also makes Edmonton better. Edmonton, unlike Calgary has more bordering communities, towns and cities. In every direction when you leave Edmonton, there's a new place within minutes, to the west, Spruce Grove/Stony pl, to the east Sherwood park, south Beaumont, Leduc, north, Fort Sask, Gibbons, etc. I found that Calgary, once you leave city limits its just open prairies until you get to Banff or Lethbridge. Edmonton is more dynamic and way more fun in the summertime than Calgary.

Even back in the mid 2000's I did find Edmontons downtown dead compared to Calgary. Especially on Sundays.
