You may know about my Subaru Forester from the Florida to Alaska road trip series, but what you probably didn't know is that my Forester used to be bone stock and automatic. We recorded the whole process of transforming this Subaru Forester from a grandmother's chariot to a road trip warrior. This is the second part of in the series, we hope you enjoy!

Do you guys have a wiring diagram for what you did for the 6mt swap? Me and a friend have 6mt a friends Forester SG, but cant for the life of us get the speedo and ABS to work. I've tried splicing the VSS directly to the speedo/ecu wires and tried into the speed input for the TCM. No signal, Havent gotten a propper ocilioscope to test for a bad VSS though..

You'd have to talk to Andrewtech, that stuff is above my head lol. I think they told me that other day that there's a plug and play swap available for the SG forester's now.
@swan3609
@swan3609 5 жыл бұрын
@@GearsandGasoline Yeah plug and play is buy a 5mt harness and plug it in.. Haha HRawesomesauce.... The abs will work if you source the 5mt ABS pump.. The 4eat ABS pump is looking for information from from the TCM.. The 5mt pump is dumb and doesn't look for any information from the trans at all.. You should be able to pull the VSS from the 6mt and splice it into the VSS wire that goes to the ECU and cluster.. In the 4eat, the (3?) various speed signals (can't remember what they were labeled in the diagram) go into the TCM and then the TCM spits out one signal VSS wire that goes to the ecu... On the 5mt/6mt, you just take the VSS from the trans and go directly to the wire that goes to the ecu.. I did this and my 4eat-6mt swap in my 04FXT drove great and I had full functional ABS and speedo worked.

If you want more info, I think I touch on it in one of my videos. If that doesn't solve the issue, message me and I'll try to help you out.. Its been 2 years since I did my swap, and I don't have my diagrams anymore, but I am willing to help you and see if we can make your car run again!

Good work! I bought an '04 Forester for my mom in '08 but fell in love with it instantly. It is humbler than yours, 2,0 naturally aspirated auto, Latin American (Bolivia) version. However in my case: - I would have swapped to a 2,5 natural, as the turbo does not support the low-ratio converter (not available to the US I believe) - I would have swapped to a manual obviously (the auto for the 2,0L is worse) - I wouldn't have updated the suspension: My stock setting is a perfect compromise for mixed curve-carving/offroading, only enough plow to communicate stability. If I am not mistaken no car ever overtook me in two years, I overtook everything, especially around bends. - I am fine with the stock looks (shorter bumpers than the US version, though), but larger wheels and no mud-flaps. - All your exhaust mods seem great but I would have liked to hear the result. - The '15 STi steering and brembo upgrades seem great too. May I ask how much your STi used gearbox cost? What ECU's did you have to swap? What adaptations did your mechanics have to do? How long did that take? GREAT MODS, in many ways the car I want. The 04 Forester is like the TOTAL CAR: it excels in literally everything.

So I have done close to this exact swap 2 years ago.. 04FXT 4eat to a JDM DCCD 6mt. I am curious as to how you did your wiring. I used my existing 4eat harness and depinned the TCM wiring and ran the 6mt signals into the cab with existing wiring. I have heard a few different way people have done this and the most "trouble free" but most expensive route is a 5mt bulkhead harness that gets ride of the TCM completely. I decided to go the painful route and wire it myself.. In the end, the only new wires I ran were for my DCCD. Speaking of which, I get that people really want the JDM forester or Spec B tall gears, but to do a 6mt swap and not have the DCCD is kind of a bummer.. That was honestly the biggest selling point for me on going 6mt. I did my entire swap with the help of one buddy in 5 days start to finish aside from sourcing a 5mt ABS pump to get rid of the ABS light. I did do my swap that budget way and stayed r160 and 5x100.. I never had intentions to track the car and ended up almost paying for the entire swap with the proceeds from selling r180 and 5x114 hubs and brembos.. In the end, I was happy with the choice of making the swap 2k cheaper instead of having the fancy stuff.. Honestly kind of surprised that I didn't hear about this swap when it was in progress! Through the various subaru and forester groups, it seems like I have discussed the swap with most of the people that have taken this on in the last 2 years! Cool to see another 4eat-6mt swap that is on the road that went well! Edit.. I made a video about my swap. Excuse my rambling and inaccuracies, I had just got off a 14hr swing shift and had a few different people asking me to outline the swap and I hastely threw together a lame video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLagabGh0qyWoZc.html
