All motors are the same. They each have their own unique flaws but the Subaru motor in 4 cylinder form is actually really strong comparatively. It makes serious torque, and if not tuned for it will break the stock parts

As a Subaru enthusiast and after breaking a lot of engines and learning the hard way, I can say this guy know his stuff. A little addition to his comments, always upgrade the oil pump too, to 11mm or 12mm if is possible. Very nice video!

I watched this video a few years ago, made mental notes and now my 05 sti that I've had since 2010 has a fully built iAG closed deck short block with built heads fuel system and a cobb access port, capable of 750 tuned for just over 500 at the wheel. Completely reliable daily driver that I love to drive, this content had a huge hand in that so, thank you! Almost forgot about the hypermax HKS coil overs and t-sloted rotors so I can stop quickly.

Was coming here to see a 1000HP sti, was not disappointed with this at all. Awesome video, a lot of people don't realize what it takes to make that kind of power. They just think you bolt some stuff on your car and go. It would be cool if you guys made a video actually assembling the block as well as the turbo/piping/fuel system etc.

My problem with Subaru tuners is finding frendly tuner dudes who don't make you feel like your walking on egg shells asking questions or lying to pad their pockets (13 year ASE mechanic, I know when you bs me!). I've been building and tuning cars for a long time (it's my job) and never had to deal with such rude people when asking about limits & whatnot's for need be's.. I might be new to Subaru turbo tuning but come on.. It's the mean dyno shop people who make me want to excell in Subaru peformance so that kind people get fixed up right, never brushed off for wanting to understand something. This dude seems nice, like takes B12 vitamins, chillen in the A/C out of derect sunlight kind of nice. I'd give him my money for that alone. Folks like him seem far n few and that needs to change, I'm sure it won't be long.

Or maybe because the EJ25 is a weak motor in Stock form... seems like subaru is pushing the little stock turbo and fuel system from factory... That's pretty wild that the factory tune is unable to add enough fuel to compensate for an aftermarket intake...

The reason big power OEM cars last is because they come from the factory with these parts....but you're also paying $60-120grand. So yeah, upgrade everything to make that 450hp at 28psi last...this isn't shocking news.

I think a lot of Subaru owners put faith in the countless hours of R&D that went into designing and making the factory setup, which obviously include the UEL. At least, that would be my guess. Again, I wish I would have seen Vince's opinion on it. EL makes complete sense for performance, just curious to hear his opinion.
@venom0237
@venom0237 6 жыл бұрын
when you're racing or using your car for a specific application, obviously you want performance (EL). But, I wouldn't trade the massive smile that my car gives me every morning for anything. So if it's a daily I usually say keep the UEL, keep the character.

FNM Sam The 2jz , 4g63, and the srt4 engine are examples of what Subaru should of done 12 years ago... Pretty disappointing that a simple bolt on/tune setup is pushing the limits of the stock STi bottom end...While srt4 and Evo engines are reliably handling 400+whp big turbo setups.

haha @ 5:55 common question asked to someone trying to make quick power on Subarus. I am at 367whp(injector limited) and holy crap its fast. My setup is estimated to reach mid 400whp, and I am already pretty scared lol. Anything below 120mph it scoots pretty fast, I got some videos on low boost. Reaching 400whp on a WRX/STI is stupid quick. E85 makes torque come on so fast and hard. Great video, everytime I have a new subaru owner ask me for advice I pretty much tell them all of this. I spent a lot of time on NASIOC and getting the info can be a bit tedious. EDIT: for the AOS, did you mean the 'STREET" AOS? there is 2 different kinds and people tend to get the one that doesnt run the hot water through it to eliminate condensation for daily driven E85 cars.

No. He meant the competition series because it eliminates the PCV entirely. Routes to atmosphere. Street series recirculates through the factory system.

Im hoping Vincent will see this but what is your theory in breaking in a built motor? I have heard many different methods and ways with both good and bad results. Mine was broken in the 50 miles break in oil, then change with break in oil again for 300 miles then regular oil. I've heard some beat the shit out of it as its suppose to break in seals, others just let it idle forever and let it break in slowly, I've heard many things. what do you do?
@osvaldovalencia6330
@osvaldovalencia6330 6 жыл бұрын
gavin P do the oil brake in but don't Don't beat the shit out of it. You can beat the shit out of it after you brake it in. Go 3000 miles brake in first 50 miles oil change than 500 miles and then to 3000 miles another one and after then beat the shit out of it. That's the whole reason of braking the engine internal mold with each other and then u can hit it hard
