plok ijuh It'd help to say WHEN these are useful, as most of these aren't useful to average healthy people: 1) Creatine for muscle recovery and for improving short burst excercise 2) Beet Juice to lower blood pressure because it has a lot of nitrates. Though I would be hesitant to regularly drink anything with high nitrate content because it may cause gastrointestinal cancer as sodium nitrite does. 3) multivitamins and antioxidants ONLY IF you have Macular Degeneration 4) Folic acid supplements ONLY IF you are pregnant. Otherwise just get it through your food and in fortified cereal 5) I don't know why melatonin is in this video; he makes a strong case against it, saying that it might increase your sleep by 10 minutes at best. 6) Please don't take St. John's Wort. It causes your body to produce more Cytochrome P450, a liver enzyme responsible for breaking down any drug present in your bloodstream. Every drug on the shelf bases it's recommended dose on how much Cytochrome P450 is in your body, so when you take St. John's Wort it becomes impossible to know what dose is safe for any other drug you take. For people who take blood pressure tablets like statins, getting the dose wrong can cause fatal heart attacks and strokes. Even if you don't regularly take other drugs, St. John's Wort can still cause lethal paracetamol overdose. Please please just steer clear of this one.

I took St. John's Wort for a month after watching this video, and I am delighted to say that it helped noticeably with my depression, which I had been struggling with for some time, and it actually helped me a little more than the antidepressants I was taking before. Unfortunately, I also take stimulants for ADHD, and after a couple weeks I noticed that they had lost most of their effect. When my test bottle of 30 capsules ran out, I decided not to get more and went back on traditional antidepressants, because the slight increase in mood I got was definitely not worth losing the effects of my ADHD meds.

@xNathan2439x 5 ай бұрын
@@joehefner7529 if you feel energized from adhd medication. that's a good indicator you got misdiagnosed. I have extremely bad adhd. Got diagnosed 18 years ago. And the strange thing is, if I take Methylphenidate, Amphetamines, or even Caffeine... I don't get stimulation. Caffeine is the only stimulant I feel "stimulation" on.. but it's less euphoric, and way more of a "tight chest", "sweaty" feeling.. no energy. The drug I used to use was Ritalin, I have since gotten off it (more because it's too expensive), but when I was on it... Id take it.. and slowly over the next hour it was like someone was talking two ends of a ball of yarn and untangling them. My thoughts flowed one to the next to the next... Very easily.. no "overlap" of ideas. If you have "overlap" of ideas while on stimulants, that's actually a default effect of stimulants in NON ADHD individuals. ADHD individuals do not have an increase in hyperactivity due to stimulant consumption. If any individuals dude, treatment options would need to be assessed for this subset of the ADHD population, but that's not something that shows up in testing or treatment. Often it's a direct indicator of a misdiagnosed Generalized Anxiety Disorder. If you take stimulants and get uncomfortably hyper. Odds are you actually have a misdiagnosed Anxiety Disorder. If ADHD meds still make you anxious, hyper, and keep that "out of control" of your feelings. You probably need to try out an antianxiety medication (like Prozac) and get off stimulants. Stimulants don't cause stimulation in ADHD individuals

I didn't know delayed sleep phase syndrome was a thing. I've been saying for years that my body thinks it was meant to function on a 28 hour schedule day, not knowing that it might actually be a real disorder. And melatonin does jack for me. The only time in my life I didn't have a problem going to sleep was the few years where I was in constant physical activity on my feet all day long. I have to exhaust myself.
@Amy-ff9lw
@Amy-ff9lw Жыл бұрын
I know it's been 3 years, but based on your quick description there (if you're still experiencing this), I don't think you have delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS), but rather non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder (N24). DSPS is when your body is consistently wanting to sleep at a different time than is conventional, for example your body refusing to sleep until it's 4am every night, then you can sleep. Which then makes it difficult to get up for a 9-5 job in the morning because you're not getting enough sleep. But it's not having a longer day-night cycle. N24 is when your body doesn't have a consistent time every day it wants to sleep, but rather it's constantly moving forward or backwards. For example, with what you've said I'm assuming this is the case but it's possible I misinterpreted: you may sleep at 10pm one night, but the next night it's 2am, then 6am, then 10am, and you keep going around and around. People can also be N24 in the other direction (although it's less common) where you sleep at 10pm, the next day 6pm, 2pm, etc. Also it doesn't need to be 4 hours at all, you can be N24 more mildly (like 30m to an hour difference each day, which still adds up), or more severely.

Then there are people around the world who cover up and/or use sun cream & blocks due to cultural/religious reasons and fear of skin cancer. What dermatologists who promote using high factor sun cream and sun block don't tell you that using them increases your risk of vitamin D deficiency.

There are no supplements that are "safe for everyone" or "useless for everyone" or "harmful for everyone." By your logic, we could say that antibiotics are useless and harmful, since they don't work on asthma or fungal infections or psoriasis or OCD. What you're talking about doesn't exist. Medications and supplements work for the people who need them. They don't work for people who don't need them. Please try real hard to remove your head from your ass. I'm allergic to almonds. The John's Wort is there as a buffer, to slow down that dip long enough that I have time to arrange some time off work to do eat, gym, cuddle dogs, and do my self-driven CBT stuff to work out what's going on - nearly always catastrophizing something that isn't. Wasn't expecting to see it here! Nice. :)

One that this video did not mention that is well researched is magnesium for IBS. My mom thought it might help me and so I started taking it, and it helped worlds. She changed brands for the pills and so I stopped taking it after having taken it regularly for two years (the new pills were sticky and unpleasant), big mistake. I'd thought my IBS was better mostly because of better stress management and hydration, but the magnesium was contributing more than I thought. Not all forms of magnesium absorb well, though, so you have to get the right ones.

@@cheezheadz3928 actually there's a trade-off there as continiously high stress levels can be very detrimental to your health, if you can effectively lower your stress levels by taking moderate amounts of alcohol or drugs, the positive effects of the lowered stress may outweight the negative effects of the drugs (it's a slippery slope but sometimes people just need a drink or smoke to calm down after a day of work and without it they may lose sleep or appetite or strain their social situation causing even more stress)

You either have to extensively research the supplement in question yourself, or pay to see someone who has....Example: Most supp. companies sell oral glutathione capsules. It is the main antioxidant for your body, made by your liver, but people with some diseases are very deficient in it. It is usually given by very expensive intravenous treatments. Most oral forms of it cannot be absorbed, and are a scam. However, the s-acetyl glutathione form does work, as I know from personal experience, and I've heard the liposomal form works also. Any other oral forms, and there are several, are a waste of money. This can be repeated for almost any supp.

It is very important to also note about St John's Wort that it has a high potential of damaging your eye's retina if used longer or in higher doses. Especially when combined with anything but a weak wintery north-European sun in the cold months. It causes permanent damage of the retina so that might be worth stating as well. It helped me go through a rough patch in my life but I wasn't aware of it's strong potential effect on the eyes and how it increased people's sensitivity to sunlight.

You are really overestimating the amount of research that has gone into 'does st john's wort work', they give it to a bunch of people for a month or less, then ask them if they notice a difference, these people either don't because they don't have the problem it's needed for, or don't because they were excluded for a spurious reason, or do because they are excitable, or do because they never take any medicine for anything and even an ibuprofen makes them sick. It's not a good system. A better system would be giving someone st John's Wort until they vomit and asking what they felt before they did.

Most of my close relatives have trouble falling asleep, so im pretty sure it's genetic and laying in bed for 3-5 hours trying to sleep is so fustrating. A few years ago I begged my doctor for help, but since I take epilepsia meds I couldn't get standart sleeping pills or velerian, so melatonin was pretty much my only option. And they worked from day one, I take a tablet before I go to bed, and relax on my phone, and after 30 mins I get sleepy, put down my phone, and pretty much go right to sleep. I love my melatonin. ;u; (Also I live in denmark where regulations are stricter, so luckily I dont have to guess how much are in each tablet)

richard müller Vitamin D is build up by spending time outside in the sun and the body can store it well since it's a fat soluable vitamin. If you spend some time every day outside you should be fine, which would be possible for most people to achieve. Only thing is, that you can only build in parts of the year. It's the time from, I think, for example April to September in Germany.

I thought our bodies “made” vitamin D upon exposure to sunlight or those special UV lamps...but our bodies don’t make vitamins??
@Thore__
@Thore__ 6 жыл бұрын
Connor Sullivan Well, first of all Vit D is not really a vitamin like others. Vitamin D is the trivial name of Cholecalciferol which is synthesized in our skin. Other Vitamins can't be synthesized in the human. Without going too much into the biochemics behind it, the body basicaly takes cholesterol and changes it to substances under the trivial names of Vitamin D1, D2 and D3 in different parts of the body. Vit D3 is the stuff normally regerred to just as Vit D. The last step of this process takes place in the skin and needs UV-Rays to be triggered. I actually don't know how effective, or even at all, UV-lamps are a possible substitute. But I guess it works, if the right spectrum of light is produced.

Number 3 antioxidants has some omissions: Vitamin E is best taken from mixed nuts and fatty foods, instead of from supplements. This is because there are many types of Vitamin E our body needs, but supplements just need to contain one type of Vit E to be allowed to sell as vitamin E on the label; moreover only taking one type of Vitamin E will be detrimental to the absorption of the other types your body needs.

As long as you're choosing an absorbable (liquid or finely powdered &/or made from foods) supplement, the right multi-vitamins (for the given person) are *incredibly* useful, especially if they are either dieting or too poor to eat as much as would be ideal, which many, many, many of us are. I wasn't really hurt by the contrary remark in your video, but wanted to point out that it was a little bit erasing.

From someone with two mutations on the MTHFR gene, folic acid and folate are not interchangeable. Folate is what the body needs and folic acid in large quantities can actually cause irreparable damage. This has only become widely known and understood in the house care industry in the last few years.
@saara5589
@saara5589 2 жыл бұрын
Folate and folic acid are synomous in biochemistry, as the prevalent form changes according to the pH of the solution. The active form of folate is called 5-methyltetrahydrofolate.

People with high levels of serotonin have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Mast cells release serotonin. Histamine is the most important neurotransmitter and many symptoms of mental illness are caused by excess histamine, NOT serotonin or dopamine problems. . . Unfortunately there are only about 50 experts on MCAS in the world, and 45 of them are patients. Check out medical researcher Lawrence Afrin's work on MCAS and mental health

A 1,000-2,000IU dose of vitamin D3 is sufficient to meet the needs of most of the population. This is the lowest effective dose range. Higher doses, based on body weight, are in the range of 20-80IU/kg daily (Doses should not exceed 10,000IU daily unless supervised by a medical professional.) - Examine

Little known fact: vitamin C improves your symptoms because it *pacifies* your immune system, NOT strengthens it. Symptoms are caused by your immune system fighting a pathogen, NOT the pathogen itself. When people are stressed, their immune system starts attacking all kinds of innocuous things. These symptoms are from AN OVERACTIVE IMMUNE SYSTEM, not an underactive one. Vitamin C is a powerful mast cell stabilizer, which is why it pacifies your immune system rather than strengthening it. Pathogens don't cause symptoms. Your immune system does. Vitamin C reigns in your immune system. That is why it reduces symptoms. There is nothing "placebo" about it. It's just working on an organ that medicine REFUSES TO STUDY (mast cells, the cause of every disorder on the affective spectrum and most forms of mental illness)

I suffered a tylenol induced liver injury. I, of course started taking milk thistle and I made an organic beet juice recipe that I could tolerate - Not a fan of the sugar content in the normal recipe and the store bought beet juices upset my stomach. My daily juice was (all organic) beets, kale, cucumber, turmeric, ginger, lemon and blue spirulina. I am happy to report that my liver is now a normal size again and my chronic nausea is down to a queasy stomach a few times a day. I no longer have to wear P6 pressure bands 24/7.
