One thing that I realised that I was doing wrong when learning vocabulary is that I would look at the pronunciation with English letters rather than the actual word itself. Sure, it allowed me to say the word fine but it meant that my reading wasn't improving and that I wouldn't be able to recognise that word when reading even though I know how to say it.

When I put words and phrases I learn in my Russian notebook, I have the word or phrase in Russian letters, then the English letters for pronunciation, and the English word or phrase all together

This is really important! Russian seems to have a lot of very common consonant clusters. The longer words are much easier to pronounce when you can quickly identify the clusters & recall their pronunciation from muscle memory, without having to calque them back to English.

Learning both Russian and Korean language is tough, indeed. My brain's gonna burst but I still be able to manage it simultaneously. Consistency, focus and determination is really the key.

@Evilone I started by writing down all the letters that were the same in English. A, K, M, O, and T are all 1:1 with the English language. Then I wrote down all Cyrillic letters that are Latin characters but represent a different letter. B, 3, H, P, E, C, y, and X are all Latin characters which represent different letters in Cyrillic alphabet. Then I wrote down all Cyrillic letters that look somewhat like Latin characters. Й, Ц, Г, Ш, Щ, Ы, П,Э, Я, Ч, and И all look a bit like Latin characters. Then I wrote down the rest of Cyrillic letters. Л, Д, Ж, Ф, and Ю. After organizing, I put the sound they represent next to each Cyrillic letter. Once I finished this, it was just memorization. The organizing I did definitely helped when memorizing, since I knew which ones I would need to work harder to memorize. It took me a few weeks of constant practice, and now I feel I have a good grasp on Cyrillic alphabet :)

I'm Egyptian and in the high school in Egypt you must learn a third language besides Arabic and English and you have 3 language to choose from Italian, German and french I have chosen to learn Italian but I want to learn Russian too because I Saw the huge amount of things that I had learn from English and I Say "Wow imagine what I could learn from 2 extra languages

I had a French tutor that got mad at me when I was driving seeing something and naming it in French. He said it was a distraction. There went my French! And I had a strange Spanish teacher who got mad at me using Spanish during breaks. I like how you encourage the opposite. I don't want want to turn it off when I try to learn a language.

My family does not enjoy that I am speaking 3 languages they don’t know 😅 I usually tell them off in a different language when I’m frustrated and they are just like what’s that and I’m like “it means I’m sorry” lol

@@lisanidog8178 it’s not a lack of guts, I don’t want to escalate any confrontation with them because that’s not the point of family I personally choose to try and NOT fight with my family and friends as much as possible. It’s not very productive or helpful to anyone in most of my experiences. There is a difference in telling someone off vs saying essential information in an omitted way. If there is something I feel they need to hear I will tell them.

I have been using duolingo and enjoy it but it definitely moves slow for a quick learner. I have taken Spanish in highschool and used duolingo to also learn a proficient amount of French. I use your videos to supplement as well! I do have ways to talk with Russian speakers but don’t know enough to have a full conversation yet. Most basics though!

I’ve learned French as a teen from 16-17 yrs old ,so Spanish was the closest language to French I’d translate some of the words into Spanish while visually seeing , reading French. I stopped cuze I graduated HS anyways I was learning Russian I practiced my alphabet like crazy misty everyday for hours. When I got that set I began to read Russian words and sounding every letter with it too. So far that has helped me. Im hoping to get back at it this week. I need Russian Friends

I'm an audio engineer by trade. You have a really bad ring @ about 385hz. It sounds like you may be using a monitor that is on the brink of feedback? I'd recommend correcting the source of this problem, or applying a heavy high Q cut @ 385hz. Either way, thanks for the excellent tips!

Can either you or someone else explain to me what you meant when you said "KZfaq Russian is not authentic Russian?" I ask because I'm actually subscribed to several channels from people that are native Russians, that live in Russia, that post vlogs and livestreams in Russian. And I listen to them without the subtitles. And I feel that they have gone a long way towards helping me to "consume Russian content," as you stated. And I also comment on the videos posted in Russian. And will sometimes get responses from the channel owners in Russian too. Just to clarify, I'm just wondering what you mean by what you meant by that statement, is all. I do love these tips, all of them. In fact, I most likely AM going to download those apps you also mentioned, and take advantage of those. Good video, as are all your others that I've seen. Thank you for all you do! Я тебя благодарю!

Возможно "русский язык с каналов (для студентов изучающих его как иностранный) это не на 100% аутентичный быстрый разговорный русский язык как беглая речь на каналах от носителей для носителей.Как то по другому трактовать такое высказывание сложно. Если что то выглядит как утка, двигается как утка и крякает как утка - то это утка.Если что то звучит как русский язык, пишется как русский язык и читается как русский язык - значит это русский язык и есть.😃

Actually I think that you should learn cases as you learn vocabulary because it will help you understand better. When you were a young child I am pretty sure your parents would speak to you using cases. Well that is the same thing here.

I just started learning Russian not too long ago. idk how or where to find a “language buddy” or whatever, but the only thing I’ve been able to think of is using tinder and putting my location to Moscow. I tried doing guys and girls, but the guys didn’t want that when I told them I was straight 😂 the women however, I just haven’t been able to find any that know English well enough. 🤦🏻‍♂️😫 I’m also learning Spanish, I’m light years ahead in Spanish compared to Russian. But I live in Texas, plenty of Spanish speaking people to talk to.

Grammar gets me down. It's so confusing so my language learning stops. Wow! You take out the fear of grammar just by explaining it as building a house. Teachers are stuck on grammar and go through it too fast. But you explain grammar easier. I take English grammar for granted because I learned the right words but never thought of it like building a house. Guess that's why my English grammar as a native speaker doesn't always work. It gets too technical. I still don't know lay for laid and when to use it.

I think the best way for me to learn Russian (speaking, reading and writing) is to actually go to Russia for 3 months, find a job there (like teaching English or French) get a VKS work permit then stay at least 12 months then I should be ok, what do you think?
