Are you packing for a training camp? Or off to compete in a triathlon?Or even going on holiday with your family? Whichever it is, you’ll want to make sure you have all the essentials to ensure you can make the most of, and enjoy your training.
Mark is joined by former elite triathlete, and friend, Nick Beer, to take you through some of their top tips when it comes to travelling as a triathlete!

Mark and Nick have travelled a lot between them over the years, so here are 6 tips they have picked up that you should consider when it comes to packing and preparing for your next trip.
These include:
- Write a packing list, including all the kit you need.
- Consider and pack the nutrition you will require.
- Ensure you have enough kit, but equally, not too much.
- Carry a selection of basic tools to keep you on the road in case of a mechanical.
- Pack ear plugs and a face mask to ensure you get the best possible sleep and recovery.
- If there is space and you know that it will be difficult to get outside exploring, consider packing a turbo trainer or foam roller.
If you found this video useful, gives it a thumbs up and share it with your triathlon friends.

Glad to see you mention the hollow foam roller, that's my key piece. Still takes up a lot of room, but it's not *as bad* as the regular ones.

Lots of socks and undies. I can wear dirty shirts and shorts no problem, I just hate wearing an old, stretched out sock.

I used to set up a "transition zone" on the bed. Starting with a pile for PreSwim attire, Swim, then two piles for the Bike (one for stuff that goes on the bike, the other for the T1 bag/zone), then Run. For IM races, each of the Special Needs would have their own pile. Each would be checked from the feet to the head. Then each pile would go into a bag. It made the morning / gear check in much easier. On longer trips where I was going do some training, I would have a seperate swim, bike, and run kit bags.

Rather than writing your list on paper put it on your mobile phone notes. It's then always with you so when you remember something you can easily add and it's ready for every race/trip in the future. Also when staying in a hotel I will often use the washbasin or just jump in the shower with my sports kit on, wash it all out well and hang ready for next time (give it all a proper wash when you get home!!!)

Please do a similar video for travelling by plane. I bought a Scicon bag (softbag) but I really don't know how to mange the way to and from the airport, especially in South Africa in my case. Also I don't know how to further protect my bike and wheels. It would be helpful to know a supplier for a hardcase where you can mount the wheels in. I have a set of sensible Lightweight Autobahn, it's not a good idea to put them in the sidewall of the Scicon bag, right?!

If you are going somewhere very different to your home, I suggest buying a bulk amount of bottled water from the supermarket (In Australia you can buy pack of 24x 600ml bottles for maybe $6) that way you don't have to worry about the local water potentially reacting differently with your gut to what you are used to

Nice tip Tri Dad Matt. This is a good one if you a travelling for a race, you don't want to risk an upset stomach if you have spent a lot of time and money getting to the event!

Unfortunately, bottled water is extremely harmful to the environment. And unrealistically bulky for a lot pf travel situations Maybe a water filter would be a cleaner option?

Not a piece of kit but if you fly with your bike remember you get a decent bike case weight allowance. Weigh your case once your bike is packed and you may have a few kilos spare to carry extra kit with your bike.
@gtn

Nice tip IA9876! This is definitely worth doing, you can often pack it out with any soft, bulky items to help protect your bike.

There's a collapsible foam roller made by brazyn life that is awesome. It doesn't take up much space.

5:10 happened to me once. I was going to nationals last year and my dad had family guy blasting out of the TV at full volume. I asked him to turn it off, but he just got mad and turned it up. That was the worst race of my life.

If only airlines were more clear and fair about charges...what a rip off! #unitedairlines charges 200$ each way to bring a light bike bag + the ticket.
