Luther Bradley. What a player.

Great football game, I remember as a kid. Irish defense was outstanding and very much under appreciated. Luther Bradley was an All American who always played like a Giant during the big games in his college career. Go Irish

That TD run by Eric Pennick is indelibly etched in my memory. I watched this Game live on ABC as a kid.

I was a 13 yr old kid at my 1st ND home game. Flew on a plane for the first time by myself from NJ. Lucky to be sitting at the 50 yd line under the pressbox. What an amazing rush it was to see the entire stadium stand in unison as Pennick broke free around the end. The campus was ready for this game. Stomping on Anthony Davis at each walkway intersection. Great game, great weekend!

Love ND. And the great announcer Van Patrick doing the replay. Van was the best, broadcasting Notre Dame on Saturday coast-to-coast over the Mutual Radio Network, then his beloved Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Great stuff! ND running the Wing-T. I think the head referee was Jerry Markbreit who worked a lot of NFL games.

no....he's right....it was 1974 that SC won 55-24. ND scored first 24 points...led 24-6 at half and didn't score again. Davis returned the opening 2nd half kick for a TD and that opened the flood gates

I remember the next season Anthony Davis ran all over us in the second half at the Coliseum. I believe 55-24??

The Sport's illustrated cover from this game is in my opinion, S.I.'s greatest cover.

How big was U.S.C. Notre Dame in the 70s? The only two victories by Notre Dame over U.S.C. propelled them to National titles. Yes Ohio State and Michigan had the 10 year war. But it was the Irish and Trojans that battled for National titles.

Genx 0ver50 you’re right tho. USC and Notre Dame games back then showed who was going to the championship.

Only because Notre Dame got the benefit of the doubt in any vote and USC played in their backyard in the Rose Bowl

by the 1sttvbn.....the halftime score in '74 was 24-6. They scored a TD just before half.

No, it was 1974. ND was up 24-0 at the half. Davis ran second half kickoff back, then all hell broke loose.

Was this about the time that several Notre Dame stars were suspended from the team for the 1974 season do to a rape of a co-ed? I think it was R. Browner,W Fry and Luther Bradley among others. I could be off on the details...but something bad went on?

USC was flat this game for some reason. But it wasn't one of their great teams anyway. Even if they had won this game like they probably should have they still weren't a great team that year.

@@fissh29 - USC won 8 out of the 10 games between 1970 and 1979. I'd say that it was ND that was "flattened" in that decade, not USC.

Ohio State was better than both u.s.c and notre dame in '73.Bucks got ripped off because we tied "the school up north" 10-10 in their house.OSU went on and beat the trojans in the rose bowl 42-21..ND beat usc 23-14 in southbend...also ND struggled to get past MSU 14-10..while the Buckeyes smashed the spartans 35-0...Bucks Rule!!!
@patrickmd46676 жыл бұрын
Bullshit. Irish beat #1 Alabama that year. Irish were the best team in the 70's. Beat four #1 ranked teams in Bowls. 2 championships . Buckeyes lost 4 of 5 Rose bowls from 70' to 80' . Also ducked Notre Dame in the 77' season and the Irish had to schedule Ole Miss cuz Woody cancelled the game. Same year Bucks were buried by Alabama and Irish beat 1# Texas. For 10th National Championship.

USC record vs Notre Dame in the 1970s 8-2 with 3 National Championships and 2 runner-ups! USC vs Ohio st in the 1970s 3-1 (all in the Rose Bowl). Their 1972,1974 and 1979 teams all beat OSU on New Years day. The 1973 team lost.

@@chuckcollins2349 I agree. As matter of fact that 1973 OSU team is one of the 3-4 best teams I have ever seen in the Big-10. Along with 1994 Penn st and 1997 Michigan....and a couple of others. As matter of fact had Ohio st....or Michigan for that matter won their famous 10-10 game outright and then clobbered USC in the Rose Bowl I think they would have been voted #1 over N.D. (In fairness though...that 73 Notre Dame team was pretty good too)! I love college football! lol
