@Joe Publico Not only had they survived the Spanish Flu, the people in this film had survived World War I. Little did they know that World War II would be upon them just 20 years in the future, and it would be far worse than the previous one had been.

My grandfather was born in Wassenaar, 1898. One of the first to own an automobile. I was fortunate to meet him a few times. Loved cigars. He came to visit us in the states, 1960s. I remember he was scared of using a gas powered lawnmower. His favorite thing to eat was a sandwich made with 2 pieces white bread, butter, slice strawberries topped with sugar.

Crazy. My grandma is 100, born in 1920. Fortunately she is still with us. She is a bit older than the babies toward the end of this video. There is a very slight chance, if they made it through the wars, that a very small number of those babies (very small) are still with us. Amazing video. The closest I’ll ever get to time travel.

VR could be the next step, not as good as time travel, but AI could regenerate worlds based on video data, our video data being so abundant could be used in the future for such a thing once our time becomes interesting to revisit. No one really cares to walk around in a virtual world as it is now, well I shouldn't say that a virtual model of todays world would be cool but not as cool as another time period with historical accuracy. There's AI networks that can take just one 2d image and render a 3d scence out of if, pair that with VR and we could be walking around in 1922 in a VR setting more realistically and with more detail than anyone could develop manually.

These people had no clue they'd be watched by millions of people 100 years into the future, they act a bit surprised but probably forgot about it soon after... When they put on their clothes that morning, they didn't know that that day they would look into an eye, the other side of which there are millions of people watching who wouldn't even be born for many decades to come.

Damn somehow this is quite thrilling. I hope someday people of future generations also see us in the same light as you do these people. They should think of how we used to make videos and audios while thinking of how advanced their times are and how of a hustle we had to go through though we find it quite convenient. Maybe in a 100 years if youtube still exists may they find this comment and mine so they'd know exactly what people 100 years ago thought of the people living 100 years prior to them.

Or (take) the similitude of one who passed by a hamlet, all in ruins to its roofs. He said: "Oh! how shall Allah bring it (ever) to life, after (this) its death?" but Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up (again). He said: "How long didst thou tarry (thus)?" He said: (Perhaps) a day or part of a day." He said: "Nay, thou hast tarried thus a hundred years; but look at thy food and thy drink; they show no signs of age; and look at thy donkey: And that We may make of thee a sign unto the people, Look further at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh." When this was shown clearly to him, he said: "I know that Allah hath power over all things." (259)

Though I didn't see one in this film, Amsterdam was also full of "bakfietsen", 3 wheeled sturdy transport bikes. I owned one living there. There are thousands of bridges in Amsterdam and at some places you'd find a few close together. In the old days people made a living posting at these places, helping those bikers pushing their loaded bakfiets over those bridges...

How strange... when I saw that dog walking by, my first thought was “awww, that poor thing is dead now”. Only AFTER that, it dawned on me that that can probably be said about every single person in the video, with the possible exception of a baby. And then I felt a sense of sadness that nobody in the video would ever be able to discover it on KZfaq and get excited about watching themselves after all these years. One of my favorite authors is Theo Thijssen, who was born and lived in de Jordaan, a working class part of Amsterdam in the late 19th century. Around the time this movie was made, he was a young schoolteacher there. I love his books, especially his autobiography, and it's so wonderful to see actual footage of the people of that time and place

I love how in almost everyone of these videos, at some point there are young boys goofing off to grab the cameras attention: waving their hats and spreading their arms, laughing.

Everytime i see such a video i wonder what the people would think if they knew that in hundred years thousands of people around the globe would watch them on a devise beyond their imagination.

I went to the waterlooplein markt many times. It's great to see it so long ago. I walked many of those streets. I will play this the next time I go and find these places again. The lyceum is there. Amazing really. Bedankt.

Thanks so much, Denis. Being from there originally and recognizing most of the places where this was shot, I feel very nostalgic. But I feel foremost grateful that you took the time to make this such a wonderful production. Dank je wel!

I love the face expressions of those women looking at their children. Their love, care and hopefullness is radiating from this footage of almost a century ago. Those are eternal human values.
