This particular brand of "Mouli" as we call them are iconic here in New Zealand, especially in the Canterbury region of the South Island. Some may know... but New Zealand was almost a French colony but pipped at the post so to speak by the British. Many new mothers here in New Zealand made baby food (mashed vegetables) using one of these... even adding meat as the baby got a little older and was being introduced to new foods. They were also used for making home made tomato sauce and relishes and for jams/conserves too... These were widely still in use in the 70's and 80's and probably would be (and probably are still by some!) if it weren't for the rise of the supermarket pre-packaged baby foods from jars and bought sauces and jams being cheaper... These were handed down from mums to daughters as they started a family and were a common sight in second-hand shops ("thrift stores"). There were several brands but most tended to all get lumped with the name "mouli" generically... much the same way as many Kiwis call any make or model of vacuum cleaner a "lux" going back to when Electrolux was the only brand about for years... (or how many older UK folk still call them a "hoover" after that brand... and say they are hoovering the floor...). Fantastic nostalgia with this content!

Prepackaged baby food shortages are now a thing apparently here in the west. Devices like this might become popular again.

Thank you, yes, thank you very much for this restoration. My mum spent her cooked vegetables in her Seb cocotte, in this grinder to feed her 8 children in the evening and then, when we were old enough to do it, it was us, in turn, who passed the vegetables for soup or mashed potatoes. Moulinette's model was a much larger family model than the one you have. It's a lot of memories that come back to me from this time of the early 60s when, to eat, everything had to be done by hand. The "Moulinex" brand was created from the coffee grinder and then followed a whole string of mills of all kinds, including the grinder.

Je vis en France et j'en ai toujours une dont je me sers. A noter que normalement il y a plusieurs grilles qui permettent de mouliner plus ou moins fin. Merci pour cette restauration en tout cas.

At the end of the video I was like "but I wanna see it in action"...and, you did the pepper! At the end of that, all I could think of was "this is great for baby food!" The thing looks great and still functional..doesn't even need electricity either!

It would be good to nickel plate the metal to stop it rusting again, especially when exposed to acids from fruit
@Punchcado

I was thinking that as well. It must have been originally either tin plated or more likely nickel plated.

Must be pre 1957 as it's still marketed as Moulinette, from 1957 company name changed to Moulinex. I believe that particular appliance is a later version of the 1933 model when company name was Moulin-Legumes, original company owner/designer Jean Mantelet.

The little red rubber piece seems like a spacer of sorts to keep the gap in that section of the wire, allowing it to maintain the spring tension

if you slide that red bit up in and out it will alter the spring tension holding the cutting blades against that grid, that will in turn change between a fine chop and a mince.

I saw something similar but bigger, to separate cheery pith’s from its fruit, for making jam. You’d first steam the cherries to soften them. I saw it in action, it kinda worked so so. I’m not sure but it probably was from the 60s.
