..... only if you're looking to play steel guitar. Other than that, put in the modest amount of money that it takes to make the guitar a player. All total, you'll have a relatively modest investment, and a playing instrument. No one in an audience, or club owner, has ever asked someone to stop playing because of the brand name on their guitar. They are more interested in whether or not a player has put in his practice time. Quit trying to buy your way into impressing people. That is such a baby boomeri-ish thing to do. I once got a B-Stock Glarry for 35 bucks. Strat type body. On this thing I learned everything I know about guitar buildung, electronics, setups and how to make a piece of shit playable nicely. Best 35 bucks I ever spent in my life. After about 350 worth of upgrades and another 200 spent on tools and many, many hours of work it turned out killer. 3 single coil format hot rail humbuckers, series, parallel, phase on each pickup individually... I think I rewired the thing 10 times till it was what I wanted. Sold it in 2020 and the buyer was vers satisfied.

@@MetalWolfz I don't think it's the same, it's more like sliding the seat into the right distance from the steering wheel, adjusting the height of the steering wheel, setting the angle of the back of the seat so your back is comfortable, adjusting the rearview mirror and side mirrors so you can see properly. Apart from the nut, these are all just minor adjustments that you might have to make on any guitar when you first get it, or even just changing the gauge of the strings. @NeoRichardBlake
@NeoRichardBlake 9 ай бұрын
@@scooterss2112 However, some of these guitars are okay out of the box. They're a little hit and miss. Also, places exist that people can take a guitar to to make sure it plays well. If a parent bought one of these and paid $100 to have a place set it up, it would probably be better than just spending that total $180 (guitar plus shipping plus setup) on a $180 guitar. Not all those come out of the box ready to play either. Everyone should really do their research before buying things in general. On top of all this... Pretty much every video about Glarry guitars that I've seen says that they're decent if you know how to work on them, but just not out of the box. Many blatantly say not to buy these for a student. It takes almost no research to find out these are kind of a gamble. If all else fails, they can be returned, no questions asked, to Amazon within 30 days. Folks will know if this is going to work out for them well before that return window expires. If they fail to return it, that's on them. I do research and I'm diligent about returning things that should be returned. It's not that hard to do.

@@scooterss2112 also, shame on a parent who would bother to buy an instrument for a child then assume they suck and not encourage them to get better at it. I bought a glarry strat as a cheap guitar for experiments and to take to the pub open mic's and not be worried if it got a bit banged up. I had many of the same issues with a high nut, a few high frets and barbed wire for strings. Took very little time to sort out with the most basic tools. I also took some material off the baseball bat neck, and put it all back together. It was fine, plays better than i can and friends who can play well had no problem with it. The stock pickups arent great, but you need to roll the tone back a bit to tame their sharp nature. It makes a massive difference. I updated my pickup/pickguard to something slightly better, painted the headstock...its pretty nice now with roto yellow 10's on it. Works fine at the pub anyway.

I bought the Glarry Mustang dual coil recently and threw one of the Guitar Fetish fixer upper strat necks on to it, fixed the hard tail bridge (was crooked and also needed to remeasure where the neck should be at for intonation) and it now plays great. It's my guitar I use for Rocksmith. Even thinking about hacking a Glarry Bronco bass to keep in a dual guitar case for when my family and I are out of town. I love how light it is and bought the dual coil mustang for that reason. Hacking the bodies is seriously half the fun on these cheap Chinese axes. If you know what you're doing and can fix problems on the body or don't mind learning, it's not bad. Most of the problems I found compensate for the shitty neck. EG: the settings were too high on the bridge adjustments. Were set at the highest setting. Played horribly. etc.

Guitar fetish has some really good stuff for cheap. I ordered some of the Slick 65 Strat pickups about 7 years ago and was blown away at how good they were. And I played a guys LP junior copy from GF and I’m telling ya that for $150 or whatever they cost, it is a great looking & playing instrument. I wish these types of cheap yet decent quality guitars existed when I was starting out back in the mid 90’s. Back then a cheap starter electric was $300 minimum, and they weren’t even close in playability & sound wise to the new stuff that Squire & Epiphone make- nor imo as good as a Harley Benton or Guitar Fetish guitar. My first new guitar was a black Korean made Samick SG copy & it was $300 even before Washington’s 8% sales tax- & it didn’t even come with a gig bag- fortunately the locally owned guitar shop threw in a quality gig bag that was branded with their logo “Rock City Guitars” As a teenager you wouldn’t believe how many of those exact same gig bags I saw around town & at school. It was a great advertising decision on their part. The owner Mark died unexpectedly years ago. But a few of the original employees still operate a guitar shop just down the street from the original store. If you’re ever in Spokane, Wa stop by “Mark’s Guitars” and say hello to Nate & Bob

A few months ago I bought a Glarry guitar very much like that (full disclaimer - I also own other Glarrys too - strats, teles, a LP, a bronco bass, etc...) except the one I got has 2 humbucker pickups, a hardtail bridge, and a simple 3-way toggle switch (a good one) for pickup selection. I paid $90 for it. I rewired the single pair of vol-tone pots to be two independent volume knobs - so I could blend the pickups in the middle position. it's a delightful guitar. it needed ZERO fret work, and the pickups sound good (which is not always so with low-cost humbuckers). I also have recently got (for $80) a Glarry "bronco" bass, which is basically the same body as this guitar with a short-scale 4-string bass neck. the pickup they put on those is not good for bass (its essentially a strat-style single coil pickup), but underneath the pickguard the body was routed to accomodate a larger pickup. I modified the pickguard and put a J-bass pickup on it (+new strings), and now its a nice bass now with 30" scale, and it fits in a standard guitar case or gigbag!

Really enjoying your channel and reviews! Trusted your opinions on the Indio "Jazzmaster" before I purchased it and had good luck with Indio's Tele. However, oh Glarry...you warned me about their Mustang clone, but I rolled the dice anyway (on the hard tail HH version). And it was a mess! Nut so high the low E and A were sharp to the 7th fret! Super sharp fret ends, crooked neck pickup when raised. But, $85 from their shop and Glarry customer service was quick to help make it right (they must either want happy customers, are used to the complaints, or both). After filing the nut and frets, and most importantly, changing the strings, plays much better! Definitely appreciate your words of caution, but for the price, it is a fun, very light project guitar! Results/QC on all budget/ordered sight unseen guitars will vary, but I've learned a lot about setup, and the Indios at least are so much better than the Kay I learned on in the 80's. Keep up the fantastic reviews!

I have an IYV offset guitar like this (They make them under the Harley Benton brand name as well) for $99.00 some simple upgrades one of the best guitars that I've bought. The issue with all Glarry's is not just the string nut, but the " high tongue" where the fretboard meets the body. The fret board is always curved up to high at that location. And even with buying a new neck, that does not fix it the issue entirely without A LOT of work with rebuilding the neck pocket. You get LESS then what you pay for with Glarry.

Even though you talked about how garbage this glarry is i still want it. I like a challenge. I was looking to put a mustang neck on a strat body because I want the shorter scale, but still prefer the strat style. This quite frankly is difficult to find and buy and when i do find it, it's ridiculously expensive. The concerns I have are 1) will it bolt on? and 2) will I end having to reset the bridge to account for intonation? We can fork out the big bucks for a already well built guitar with all the goodies, but that doesn't mean it will fit you best as a player. Customization IMO is where it's at. Just need a decent starting instrument. Not sure a $59 guitar is a good starting point. What would a good cost average point be? Not too junky.

Good point! How can you buy a painted and assembled guitar cheaper than a kit guitar?

I bought one of the early Glarrys for £45 new two or three years ago. It was completely playable with an ordinary (no fret leveling) setup. I stuck in a few things I had leftover from other projects: brass saddles, bone nut and a heavier block. Now, it's a great knockabout guitar. I have a set of pickguards with different pickup-and-switching combinations which I can swap whenever I swap the strings. I was so pleased with it I bought another. It was crap. The neck was raw unsealed wood, the body was blockboard with gaps everywhere, and when I took off the pickguard a shitload of sawdust fell out! After tapping in the frets properly, leveling and crowning them, and putting in a decent nut, it was playable enough to sell at a loss. So I did.

Interesting to see what you can get for so little. I wonder how it would compare to a Squier Sonic series Mustang. Obviously the big difference is the Squier's are non-trem.

My first guitar was exactly like this except it was an unbranded Ammoon guitar which I'm pretty sure rebranded as Glarry at some point. I learned every luthier skill I could on it because it was so cheap that I didn't mind destroying it. Mine came with a free dead waterbug under the pickguard. Also, thanks for the reminder, I actually needed toothpaste from Amazon.

i settled on a fesley at $130. i still had to buy some setup tools (about $20) but at least it was playable out of the box. Have to admit this is the first guitar I've purchased and still looking for ways to learn how to play. I'm playing with rocksmith 2014 as a training tool but not sure how that will play out. sure there are other methods to try out but come with a price. Worse case it becomes a wall decoration. after performing additional setup - action setting, truss rod and intonation it plays fairly well.

Looks like the perfect guitar for someone to practice their Luthier skills on. The body looks fine, so level and crown the frets, install a new bone nut, maybe install a pair of P90's and do a good set-up. I would lock the trem , or replace it because I doubt it will ever work properly. You would have a nice player for under $200 all-in.

My Dad bought a Glarry just for fun. It was the STrat for I think $70.00. When we tried to set it up we found out the bridge was in the wrong spot so it wasn't intonateable, the we tried to adjust the truss rod and when trying to pull the wrench out, the truss rod came out with it lol.....I don't know what he did with it, it's probably in storage somewhere

Ryan, you don't do many 24' scale guitars for us small-handed folks. But if you can get your hands on a new Fender Japan Junior 24" scale Jazzmaster, love to see it. I just don't want to spend $800-$900 on EBay without knowing what I'm getting.

For the money, this is a awesome guitar! I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the Chinese community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would most undoubtedly be poorer as a nation.

I bought a Glary from of all places, Temu! It was $33. it came packed well the body is red with white pickguard. It looks good, neck and frets are not bad. worst thing is the pickups..the pickup winding wire is not soldered to grommets. The pickup lead wires are soldered directly to the winding wire and covered by the black tape. lol. That is crazy. So i replaced pups and pots, the bridge and tuners. Added new strings. Total cost is less than a hundred bucks and it's pretty decent now. It's no longer a glary, lol. Sounds pretty damn good. THANK YOU Wilkinson for bridge, tuners and thanks GFS for vintage pups on sale for $10.

At the very least, some perspective is in order. In 1969, I bought a brand new Teisco for $29.00 that was, by any standard of today, not even an instrument. For thirty bucks more 50 + years later, this is light years ahead of that "guitar". Also, not that long ago, Squier Strats were $100 on sale and you wouldn't even consider something like this. Today, those $129.00 Squiers are $200 and that makes these guitars at least something to consider, all the work involved notwithstanding.

I bought one of the Strat copy models. Just as a project to have something to do I replaced everything on the guitar everything. Surprisingly it plays okay. Not sure if the wood is haunted but I even did a level and crown on the fretboard to get it smooth and it's still mediocre. I did the same thing to a Squier Strat edit plays amazing. So it has to be part of the design along with the questionable Woods that are used to make them LOL

It's STILL better than my first guitar, my First Act strat knockoff from 2005. The fret edges cut my hands so I haven't touched it since I got it -- I bought an Epiphone E Series basher from my neighbor for $60 right after I got it so I probably haven't touched it, aside for screwing around, in a good 15 years..

I see plenty of them on FB marketplace. My son;s friend bought a Glarry bass starter pack. I never touched it, but I looked at the tiny amp that came with is and was like, that's gotta sound like hot garbage. I;ve modded enough low end Squiers where I just don't care to mod/upgrade super cheap guitars. I do quite enjoy my Sonc Esquire H though.
