Why was the young man claiming they've had money "for ages" if they don't have enough money for the upkeep of their home?

You can't punish people for being born into any situation. You can however raise them to do good things.. being an arrogant, unintelligent buffoon isn't something one should strive for.

The "aristocrats" seem like they'd fit in a trailer park near you, no matter WHERE that might be.

I just read about Lord Fulford on Wikipedia. He failed at everything he ever did, so he decided to go into politics. Apparently, they didn't want him there either.

Son yells at his mother to “shut up!” while his father sits and does nothing. They are the perfect example of style and grace.

I love how the son is so pompous about inheriting a mansion that his parents can't afford. 😂

"We don't have a staff so we're not privileged." Amazing. These people's sense of entitlement prevented them from thinking for one moment that this interview could actually be quite damming for their entire class.

Eccentric behavior is only "eccentric" if you have wealth. If you behave eccentrically and are poor; you're considered to be insane.

The ignorance of a teenager. "Oh, you just got money. We've had it for ages." Completely oblivious that his father can't afford the upkeep and confessed that the finances have been on a slippery slope downwards for centuries.

I felt privileged for being able to save up money, i made over the course of 3 months as a hostess, to buy a $300 jellyfish aquarium. I now realize that privilege exists on a gradient curve

The Fulfords aren’t aristocratic or titled, they live on an estate that’s falling apart with minimal income to fix it.

The presenter exuded more class and grace than any of the aristocrats she interviewed.

it is ironic how these folks have a such a strong self-bestowed sense of importance in society, when the rest of us see them for what they really are; excess baggage.

What’s crazy is the house is dilapidated, yet he has so many assets and so much land, he could easily generate a massive income selling things off and renting space. Lady Chichester is a nice bit of crumpet as well.

I grew up in a poor family of a low socio-economic class, but I can tell you any one of my family members would look at that first family with disbelief. Swearing, looking down on others, displayed arrogance, leaving your own home in shambles, talking about money, yelling at your elders, pushing your sibling, wearing your trousers around your knees. And all in mixed company AND a camera crew to capture this for all to see. Unbelievable.

I am a direct descendent of a Knighted Aristocrat. My ancestors were Cambridge farmers and dry land agricultural experts. They migrated to Australia in the 1870’s. My grandfather was a dairy farmer, and my maternal grandfather had agistment property. I was raised with a farming background and they were very resourceful and frugal. I know exactly where my food comes from. Does my pedigree matter today? No. I don’t care much about titles. My ancestors were intelligent and hardworking free settlers that made a huge difference. Today, I choose, willingly, to love below the poverty line because of my faith. I don’t follow money. I pay my taxes and my civic duties. As a Christian, I would rather be poor and free rather than shackled to an estate and “old money”, and my parents thought the same way. As for false titles and man made estates, let them return to the people. Australians grew weary of the “aristocracy” long ago. We no longer live in a society divided by “castes”. So what if the former “nobles” cannot afford their luxuries??? Their original status was built upon hard work and leadership. The current ones know NOTHING about sacrifice.

It's incredible how a man that can barely speak manages to consider himself so much "more" than anyone else. Relics of a bygone era, they should consider reforming their public image by supporting their local communities.

I've met several German, Bohemian/Czech, Austrian and Italian aristocrats through some cultural co-operation projects, but I've not even once seen this kind of arrogance, ignorance and stupidity. Brits are obviously culturally different than continental Europe, but this is a truly "another level", almost like a mockery.

I remember a TV series about these idiots a few years ago. Then, there was a public footpath across their land and Fulford brandished a shotgun at some people who were there legally and threatened to shoot them. I so wished it had been me because I would have totally called his bluff. And it’s absolutely ridiculous to suggest that they’re poor- it’s just tax avoidance in plain sight.

When I was a letter carrier I subbed on a affluent mail route during the regular carriers vacation for a couple weeks. I delivered to one huge mansion in particular that just seemed to drip with money. Every extravagance possible, sports cars I'd never seen or heard about, water fountains, coy ponds, the whole 9 yards. It was the nicest place I had seen then or since. When the regular carrier came back from vacation I asked him what those people did for a living to afford to live like that. Turns out their great grandfather was an early investor in oil when it was first discovered in American so they did literally nothing but cash dividends checks. Some folks truly have all the luck!

9:00 - ish. The fact that those parents and that twin brother won't put their daughter and his sister above archaic patriarchal tradition proves that they don't love her. They might be socially nice to her in the moment, but they don't actually love her. The wisest thing she can do is get an online job and an online bank account that they know nothing about, live there until she's able to move out, and then just leave and never look back. They aren't only being unfair to her, they're devaluing her life - her ability to survive. What kind of sick, twisted people do that to their own child? Disgusting. They shouldn't be allowed to make that choice, to harm their own child that way. It's neglectful and abusive. The answer is simple: ensure that the house is sold and the money equally divided between both children to do with as they like. The parents have already done a crappy job of making sure the house is in good condition for their children to live in. Some of what I saw in its current condition causes me to think it should probably be demolished and re-built. If the parents don't have the money for that, then that's further reason to sell it, before they die. If they sell it to a historical society, they can make a decent amount off of the sale and go live within their means, like sane, rational people do. The historical society could then use their funds to fix the place up, open it as a museum, and use the ticket sales as needed to keep themselves going, with any excess proceeds going to charity. There's just no excuse for any of what I see happening in that family. It's not "eccentric," it's absurd.

Well done to sixty minutes for interviewing the bottom of the rung in British aristocracy.

As this was shot in 2009, i was interested to see whats happened to Arthur Fulford. Turns out he has become a reality TV personality. He appeared on Britons Big Brother but walked out after one day on the show because he felt "bullied"😂

The big problem is that they don’t serve the same purpose as they used to. This guy’s ancestors fought for the country and were rewarded with land and titles. When was the last time this family served on the front line?

The more I see these stories, the more I understand why my father and mother emigrated to Australia with us five children, back in the sixties, my dad couldn't stand the pompous aristocrats, and back then he said they were much worse.
