I've been getting a LOT of requests to incorporate more teaching videos so here we go again with a second one in a row. This video is a little two part for nuc teaching. The beginning is my son and I helping a new beekeeper set up their hive box and introduce their bees into new equipment. The second half is nuc pre-sale inspections. Hope you enjoy.

I got stung in my groin by a yellowjacket when I was five or six years old and channels like this and JP the bee man have helped me get past that early childhood trauma too. There are some species I still have no love for and will keep my distance from, but I'm not nearly as antsy around honey bees anymore, which is good as the neighbor next door has a hive in the back of their storage shed that they don't want to get rid of, and I have to walk past it on the way to the bus stop every day.

It looks like you use a lot of cell phone battery life. I do too. Solved the problem by buying a Samsung Galaxy Note3. This is a great phone, but an oldie. It is the last one Samsung made with a REMOVABLE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY.I like it so much I bought a spare! Still available on Ebay and Etsy for about $230.00. I bought a bunch of the matching batteries (about $10 ea), including a double size one, plus a separate charger for these batteries. Now I can recharge one while using another. Great value.

@@628DirtRooster If that's what you have, just buy a few extra batteries from Amazon and stick them in a pocket. When battery starts to run low. Mine also has a slot inside to put a micro memory card to increase the phone memory. Too geeky for you? It's actually really simple!

I've always wondered what happened to all those cut outs, and commercial orphaned bee collections. Your bee yards didn't seem to have enough colonies to represent all that you collected. It appears from this video that you sell a lot of them. Your hive boxes always look older, and I never see you building any new ones. So I guess you bring 'em in and nuc them out. Makes sense now. Thank you for making these videos for us! May the 4th be with you!

Had a rescue dog that loved to sit by bushes and hunt bees, wasps, whatever. We would pull the stinger out of his swollen face, and he would happily return to the bushes. We would keep him in the house until the swelling went down, but he wanted to hunt the bees more than the sting bothered him. He was a ratter delux. The GS isn’t a ratter, so once should work. 628DirtRooster Bees Then it wasn’t just than my dog was a ratter, was it? So much for that theory. He was the only dog I’ve had that hunted mice and insects, so I always thought it was because he was a ratter. Dobes can be taught to hunt rats, but the ones I have been around didn’t do it naturally. However, dog behavior is highly variable, no matter the breeding. I guess we both have had dogs who were a bit nuts. :)

I would worry about leaving my bees with someone so clueless, yes we’ve all gotta start somewhere but if you can’t tell honey from brood 😬 They need to be carful with those frames too, foundation less is fine but without wires added to strengthen the comb as they draw it it’s going to be awfully soft for a while. Still on the plus side, it’ll keep you busy collecting the swarms from their hive in a few weeks 😆 It’s good to see you ensuring that the Nucs are good before sale, I sell a few and it’s a tricky balancing act, you want a full box but too full they start swarm preparation. I guess I’m nobody, always mark my queens with the right year colour, as I’ve some that are now three years or more and still going strong, and some that were superseded late last year, without the mark I’d never have known.

You could show about how a young KID learned about bees but it'd be carved pictures in stione back then. And you have nothing to worry about going shirtless as long as a single politician lives. And you can tell who boy/son takes after and I bvet you didn't destroy Mama's phone too bad. And however much you get for a setup of bees ain't enough. GBWYall!

Are you worried about the spread of the murder hornet in the states? NatGeo had a cool video how the Japanese honeybee has adapted to defend itself by cooking the hornet alive.
@628DirtRooster
@628DirtRooster 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not worried. It's media hype at this point. Balling is honey bee's natural defense against most intruders, not an adaptation as it was probably put on Nat Geo.

I set out a swarm trap and bees just moved in yesterday. I am wondering how long should I let them stay in the trap before moving them into the deeps at the final location which is only 50 feet away. The swarm trap and the deeps have wax coated plastic frames with no comb. Thanks.
